Child licked 4head

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 17:18

I know this might sound ridiculous but I have terrible health anxiety so please no harsh comments, I put 4head roll on on my head and my 5 year old son licked my forehead about 20 minutes later, I thought nothing of it until he said "you know that stuff you put on my chest when I have a cold, was it on your head because I can taste it' I got him to take a big drink of juice. It has an active ingredient of levomenthol and it says on the instructions if it's swallowed you need to go to a&e immediately as it's toxic and can cause stomach pain, vomiting, dizziness and unconsciousness. Do I need to do anything or what? I'm in Northern ireland if that means anything so we don't have 111 service except for Corona advice.

There’s no way he will have ingested anywhere near enough to be poisoned by it

FannyFifer · 08/04/2020 17:23

Unless he drank the bottle of the stuff then absolutely no harm will have come to him by having licked ur head.
Everyone is anxious the now with all that's going on but this is one thing u don't need to worry about.
Look after yourself.

PoptartPoptart · 08/04/2020 17:29

Erm, why did he lick your head?
Don’t worry op, he will be absolutely fine. I wouldn’t give it a second thought.

I've tried googling but not much info on levomenthol but camphor comes up which is in vaporub is poisonous and even cause seizures etc. Thank you for responses, I really hope you're correct. My DH thinks I'm overreacting as well.

He was pretending to be a vampire and clamped his lips over my forehead and then sucked a bit and then licked.

Apparently levomenthol is an active ingredient in benilyn children's cough medicine so if it's being ingested at a small degree in that cough syrup then the amount he got from my forehead right? I've added a picture of the instructions. Why if it's toxic is in a children's cough syrup?

Ring that nhs phone number if you're that worried. They'll tell you there is nothing to be worried about.

Haworthia · 08/04/2020 17:51

He will have ingested an absolutely tiny, tiny amount. Just enough to taste the menthol. Please don’t waste NHS time by calling them.

JumpingOnTheBed · 08/04/2020 17:55

Erm, why did he lick your head? are you a parent PoptartPoptart Grin

Mine ate Metanium last year - nothing happened, she was fine, did a google and old mumsnet posts calmed me right down.

PoptartPoptart · 08/04/2020 18:01

Yes I’m a parent... I was just curious!

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 18:07

jumpingonthebed is metanium toxic as well?

I've googled incessantly and found levomenthol is also in things like strepsil lozenges etc so I'm hoping that a certain amount of it being ingested is ok, although I know those things aren't suitable for under 12's and maybe that's why. God I'm going to be on edge watching him for the next few hours.

Are you getting help for your anxiety OP?

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 18:28

onlyjudycanjudgeme not right now no but I've had CBT and talking therapy previously so I do try to manage it on a daily basis but when something unknown or unexpected like this comes up that I have no experience or knowledge with, the anxiety comes in full force.

That literally means a certain amount being ingested is OK. I bet every methol cough/throat sweet contains some.

Pentium85 · 08/04/2020 18:34

I really hope you're seeking professional help for your anxiety OP.

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 18:38

pentium god do I sound that bad?

OP posts:
Pentium85 · 08/04/2020 18:46

Ahhh I don't mean it harshly at all OP, sorry, should have phrased it better.

But yes, it does all sound quite extreme.

Maybe look if you can find different coping techniques for when something unexpected happens?

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 18:56

pentium no I could see you meant it in a genuine way but just made me see how mental it looks to other people.

I feel a bit blue now after all this.

OP posts:
Pentium85 · 08/04/2020 19:29

I just think that finding a coping mechanism to deal with unexpected scenarios would be really useful.
Although I appreciate times are so very uncertain at the moment so they definitely do heighten all your emotions.
Of course, if it's only on the very rare occasion then it's probably manageable, but I hate to think of you getting worked up and worried about things often when you could potentially find a way to make life a little easier.

CazM2012 · 08/04/2020 19:33

My eldest DD was a nightmare for getting hold of stuff when little, no matter where it was (was pushing chairs and climbing sides before 18 months old) she got hold of baby vicks and ate half a pot Envy < not envy! And got hold of anbesol teething liquid, undid the child proof lid and drank half of it Hmm both times fine, her breath smelt like mint for a week after the first incident.
He will be absolutely fine (mine lick me randomly too)

bobbityboop · 08/04/2020 20:20

This is something my 3 year old would do as well. Which would then also result in me googling it for 4 hours and then phoning 111 anyway for them to tell me it's fine, but I wouldn't be able to rest until speaking to them. Even though I know that the risk is minuscule.

Just give 111 a ring, take the peace of mind and stop torturing yourself Grin.

I have to take Citalopram for anxiety related to this kind of shit, it was classed as PND but manifested into over exaggerated worry so I can relate to the lengths you are going to on google at this moment.

Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 20:36

pentium thank you, that was really kind of you say. I really do need to think of a way to deal with unexpected mishaps without jumping straight to the worst conclusions. My husband thinks I'm demented when stuff like this happens.

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 20:39

cazM wow I'm shocked they had no tummy issues over the vaporub one but I'm sure the baby version doesn't have half the amount of campor in it etc. Both those scenarios would have given me heart failure though if I'm honest.

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 08/04/2020 20:41

bobbityboo thank you for understanding, I just freak out with the uncertainty of it all and the having to wait to see if any symptoms follow the mishap. Anxiety is a bitch.

OP posts:
Nogodsnomasters · 09/04/2020 07:07

Well we're up and he's absolutely fine so everyone was correct, nothings happened. Thank you all for your kindness in responses.
