Or is that too much like asking which of your children do you like best? Grin

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/04/2020 10:12

I have three PurpleDaisies!
Cofig19 and Hellraisin are not strictly sourdough as I started them off with dried fruit, then added flour to the yeast water, but they are taking on a sourdough sort of character now. The youngest is Zombie Autolysis, which is a classic sourdough.
Its quicker to start with the fruit yeast and you can always use it in liquid form too ( see strawberry soda explosion)!
Hellraisin is the liveliest, but the others work well too.
I also have a cat, so four pets at the moment!

Cooked too much pasta the other night while using up my pesto.

So I've made a cheese sauce with added greens, stirred in the pasta, and popped it in the oven with a breadcrumb (stale bread) and cheese topping.

I’m having a freezer tea today Grin McCain’s gastro chips, popcorn chicken, and fish fingers, with a packet curry sauce to make up when it’s ready. Takeaways are closed where I live and this is the closest I can get to a chippy tea with what I’ve already got in the fridge!

Hi everyone! 👋

Mumsnet was doing some weird thing yesterday so I couldn’t post because my comment kept being deleted when I hit enter. Very grump-inducing!

Anyway, here’s what we’ve had to eat the past couple of days.

Peri peri chicken with med veg and rice.

Another apple and Saint Agur salad, this time with red apple, red seedless grapes, chicory, celery and roasted walnuts and a French dressing. Was delicious.

Last night’s dinner was king prawn and courgette linguine, with garlic, chilli and basil. It wasn’t ideal as I had to use frozen cooked prawns, but it was yummy nonetheless. It’s just a lot more yummy with raw prawns for that fresh seafood flavour...DH was happy though (it’s one of his favourites). It’s very nice and so easy to make:

Weeds your yeast culture names did make me chortle! Absolutely brilliant!

TGIF! It’s been a looong week, I’m pretty sure I mention every time I post that I’m not loving this two kids under 3, full time job, no childcare, DH that works away from the home malarkey but I’ve never been more grateful for weekends than I am right now!

Can’t wait for two days to relax and do some therapeutic cooking! I had the last of some creme fraiche and some mushrooms that wanted using, as well as an expired pouch of stroganoff sauce to use up, so we had chicken stroganoff and rice for dinner which was yummy!

Now time to collapse and catch up on the thread!

I also made a beef Bourguignon yesterday, which we will have in the next couple of days.

Today’s lunch was a tuna salad using up some salad leaves and a bit of cucumber and a few out of date stonebaked pita breads.

Furble I'm determined to keep them going as a sort of souvenir. Pandemic heritage yeast strains!

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/04/2020 19:23

Mmmmm, that linguine looks lovely Ninkanink

Weedsnseeds1 · 24/04/2020 21:10

Sumac lamb with muhammara, babaganous and guacamole ( yes, I know it doesn't strictly fit the theme)!

Just catching up on the thread... @Weedsnseeds1 your soda looks amazing Shock

Made this vegetable curry the other night to use up loads of veg that was hanging around the fridge. It was ok, but not quite spicy enough for my taste. However I made the flatbreads recommended up thread (yogurt & flour) which were delicious, thank you!!

Used this muffins recipe earlier but with pears not blueberry - turns out no-one in the house likes pears enough to eat them from the veg box! They didn't really rise but were yummy. The eatnotspend website is brilliant by the way, I love the banana bread and courgette cake recipes.

DP has bought an enormous sack of potatoes. There are two people in the house who like potatoes. We will be eating chips a lot for the near future...

PurpleDaisies · 25/04/2020 10:05

Banana pancakes made with some disgusting black bananas that dh tried to bin.

I’m really enjoying Saturday brunches.

French toast with maple syrup for breakfast to use up the last of my fancy bread!

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 10:29

weeds tell me you’re just nicking pictures off the internet? I have serious baking envy.

I have sultanas so it’s going to be a fermented sultana starter. Quite excited about this!

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 11:07

Honestly, all my own work PurpleDaisies!
Start the sultanas with some warm water, bit of sugar/honey or whatever.
When they float its ready. Then half and half sultana water and flour for the starter. Give it a day or so to get going, then into fridge.
I strongly suggest using a plastic soft drinks bottle rather than glass, if you have one, to avoid detonation....
If you only have glass, use a cloth and an elastic band, not the lid!

PurpleDaisies · 25/04/2020 11:09

Fantastic, thanks for the tips! I will update. Need a good name now.

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 11:09

That loaf includes some of my bargainous chapati flour!

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 11:13

Trying to think of a sultana pun now!
The cat's sultanas?

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 11:13

Or give it a title The Sultana of... insert name of home town!

PurpleDaisies · 25/04/2020 11:16

I love the Sultana of [name removed to protect the innocent]. Think that’s the winner!

Weedsnseeds1 · 25/04/2020 11:52

Here's the crumb structure

cricketmum84 · 25/04/2020 12:17

Has anyone ever cooked cauliflower on a bbq??

PurpleDaisies · 25/04/2020 12:19

Yes cricket, I cut it into think wedges, steam it a little bit and let it cool. Brush it with oil and sprinkle it with spices like cumin and coriander, the it goes straight on to the rack.

SegregateMumBev · 25/04/2020 13:39

Any ideas for using up diet lemonde (bought in error ages ago)?
