That's a good fruit and veg haul - just a couple of melons would cost almost that in a supermarket.

We had a click and collect on Friday so we're pretty much eating as normal now but still trying out some new things and trying to make things stretch, and of course being particularly careful about not letting anything go to waste. We had Jamie Oliver's leek carbonara tonight, was alright. Planning to do a bacon and leek risotto and a leek tart from The Green Roasting Tin with the remaining leeks. My DH is thrilled because he doesn't like leeks 😂 I don't think he has any justification for not liking them given he likes all other oniony things, I think it's just part of him trying to reject welshification, so I shall continue to feed them to him Grin

Also made millionaires shortbread yesterday. I thought I bought condensed milk a few weeks back but accidentally picked up the carnation caramel stuff, so was just using that up. Made a right mess of cutting it up today though so I've just been eating it from the dish with a spoon.

This thread is amazing and just what I needed to aid the daily ready steady cook

dementedma · 19/04/2020 19:27

Last night I tried a new recipe: Dan Dan noodles with a peanut sauce. It was not well received at all. Must admit, didnt like it much either.
Back on familiar ground with sausage casserole tonight using all the leftover veggies and half jars and tins of this and that. Very tasty

Spam88, that made me laugh. I discovered, when all this kicked off, that my OH had been troughing his way through all my pasta and passata supplies while I was away for work, rather than eating frozen portions of perfectly good meals from the freezer as instructed.
I have been taking great pleasure in serving rice and couscous, neither of which he particularly likes.
I did managed to get linguine and penne today, but I am not going to reveal that Intel until I am good and ready....

Wonder what you used

@Spam88 I make an amazing millionaires shortbread but I am so bad at cutting it up!

Just coming in to share my excitement as my large surprise fruit and veg box is arriving today! As is a small order from a local vegan store with plenty of cheese scoring meat substitutes.

No doubt I'll be back later for recipe ideas for my box. Am just so looking forward to having fresh fruit! It feels like it's been ages since I've had any. (Crosses fingers for a melon)

cricketmum84 · 20/04/2020 06:09

God knows why my phone thought I meant "cheese scoring" instead of interesting....

Pegase · 20/04/2020 07:18

Funnily enough we tried the dandan noodles with spices from SimplyCook- also found it fantastic.

Spam88 · 20/04/2020 08:52

I was wondering what cheese scoring was 😂

The first recipe I looked at for millionaires shortbread had oil in the chocolate to make it softer, but none of the others did so I went without. I should have used the oil.

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/04/2020 09:16

Cheese scoring sounded like an essential activity to me. I am becoming institutionalised!

Spam88 · 20/04/2020 09:19

I actually did some cheese scoring once now I think about it 🤔

PurpleDaisies · 20/04/2020 11:17

I have been to b and m bargains and now have chick peas again! Dh and are veggie and it was getting a bit desperate.

Lots of lovely leftovers for lunches and tonight it’s going to be a beetroot Bourguignon using up the root veg before the new box comes.

Ninkanink · 20/04/2020 12:14

I really, really wish I’d got avocados. My DH didn’t think we should get a kg of avocados (all that was available), and since he’s the more sensible one I decided to heed his opinion. Of course now I’ve realised we really could have easily used them up in time. Grrr.

Never mind, we have lots of other lovely things.

Oh everything looks gorgeous!

Dinner last night looked good but actually wasn’t that nice...one of those where nothing turns out quite right. 😔 The fish hadn’t been gutted properly (I couldn’t tell when I was dressing it) and wasn’t the best quality - one reason why we don’t ordinarily get groceries delivered; we like to check everything ourselves and make sure we get good produce. The pak Choi wasn’t anywhere near tender enough, and although I had used garlic and chilli I forgot to season it, which is very unusual for me. The rice came out of a packet and I just dressed it so that was ok.

Sea bass with Thai red curry paste, lemon, chilli, coriander and spring onion, with garlic and chilli pak Choi and rice dressed with lime juice, chilli, coriander and spring onion.

Thank goodness for soy sauce as it was definitely required with this meal! I don’t really know where my head was at yesterday. 😳

Today’s breakfast for DH was a sausage sandwich, mine was a few rich tea biscuits spread with lurpak (the way my grandmother used to eat Marie biscuits when I was a child).

Lunch will be leftover bacon, mushroom and lentil stew from quite a few days ago, with a part-baked baguette which was vacated from the freezer to make room. I’ll add the last few mushrooms to that as they’re looking ropey, as well as the last of the greens.

Not quite sure on dinner yet but I know it’ll involve courgettes. Might do fritters. And probably a chicken dish as well.

@Ninkanink oh wow, could you come and make that now for me please?!?! 😍😍😍

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/04/2020 12:44

It looks lovely Ninkanink, even if it didn't quite meet your expectations!

Ninkanink · 20/04/2020 12:44

@cricketmum84 ☺️ ordinarily I’d be flattered but honestly, I wasn’t happy with it at all, in fact I kinda wish I hadn’t wasted the money on that sea bass as it really wasn’t worth it. 😔 but never mind, you can’t win them all I suppose. It was just about ok I guess, and it was nice to have something different and with a fresher flavour profile.

If you’d come over I would have been awfully embarrassed to have to serve it to you!

Well it certainly looked good :) that kind of meal was all I lived on for 2 weeks in bulgaria last summer (they didn't really cater for vegetarians except for pizza or salad) and I miss it!

Ninkanink · 20/04/2020 12:53

Thanks @Weedsnseeds1 ☺️
