My temp is 35.7/35.8 what does this mean?!

Horehound · 04/04/2020 17:56

I feel hot and a bit tired so thought I'd check my temp to be surprised it's actually 35.7 and I checked on a separate thermometer which came up 35.8
This seems pretty low? Usually I'm around 36.3
What s going on Confused

Who knows. Wouldn't worry though.

FourTeaFallOut · 04/04/2020 17:57

Do you have other people in the house you can check it on to check how reliable it is?

feesh · 04/04/2020 17:58

Low temperatures can be quite serious.

worldweary45 · 04/04/2020 18:03

Low temp can be a symptom of sepsis

How do you feel generally?

nibdedibble · 04/04/2020 18:05

Mine is generally the same, every time I’ve taken it over the past few years (which isn’t often). Heart rate 56 to 60 as well. I’ve just assumed I’m on a slow setting!

ofwarren · 04/04/2020 18:07

My temperature was low at the start of my coronavirus symptoms.
My GP confirmed that some people are presenting with a low rather than high temperature.

Goingfarawsy · 04/04/2020 18:07

We are doing ours at work everyday. Out of about 25 of us only about 4 are in the 36’s. Most are in the 35’s.

pickletickled · 04/04/2020 18:09

Mine and Dh temps are consistently between 35.3 and 36.5
We check daily/every other day at the moment
Both fit and well, I have thyroiditis which can be accountable for dodgy temps, dh doesn't.

TinnedPearsForPudding · 04/04/2020 18:10

Faulty thermometer, poor technique, earwax build up (if using an in ear thermometer), normal variation...any of the above are very possible

ChikiTIKI · 04/04/2020 18:10

I had a low temp the other day, immediately after a c section. I think it was caused by being very dehydrated which led to low blood pressure and then low temp.

Try drinking lots of water, eat some high energy food and wrap up warm. Worked for me. Hope it works for you too.

NannyR · 04/04/2020 18:14

I've checked mine a few times over the last couple of weeks - I'm not ill but thought it might be useful to know what my normal temperature is in case I do get ill - mine fluctuates between 35.5 and 36.5.
Low temperatures can be a symptom of sepsis but I would have thought that there would be other symptoms alongside the low temperature if that was the case.

LochJessMonster · 04/04/2020 18:17

Put down the thermometer. It won’t tell you anything.

SquashedFlyBiscuit · 04/04/2020 18:18

Isnt a home thermometer often a degree lower?

woollylizard · 04/04/2020 18:23

Depends on the type of thermometer sometimes

Matildathehun77 · 04/04/2020 18:26

My temperature is always that low, my heart rate is slow too, but I'm perfectly well, I think sometimes there is a bit of natural variation???

(Anything above 37 is a "fever" for me but that's very rare 🤷‍♂️)

midnightstar66 · 04/04/2020 18:26

I always read 35, last week it was 34.4 and I felt totally normal. This was with using an under arm way past the beep and an infrared forehead both reading the same results. I have raynauds. A circulatory disorder and assume it's related. The other day I was really burning up, flushed, sweating and shivering yet temp was reading 36.6

mumwon · 04/04/2020 18:39

apparently time of month (or is it your fertile time?) anyway your temperature can very over the month
Do you as pp says have a low blood pressure? & are you shivering?

LaneBoy · 04/04/2020 18:49

Keep an eye on it but it can vary naturally.

Mine is at or just below 35 most of the time so when I was unwell 38.1 was a huge difference for me. Whereas DS kept going up to 39.9 for a couple of days when he had it and he felt fine at 38.

It has made me think it would be good to be aware of your average temperature. I was only aware of mine as I sometimes take it out of curiosity when taking DD2’s.

MontysOarlock · 04/04/2020 18:51

When you feel well you are meant to take your temperature to get a base line. Take it several times at different times on different days.

All of us register in the mid 35 degree range.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 04/04/2020 18:57

I'm in the 35 range normally. I wonder if it's our in-ear thermometer or poor technique.

Horehound · 04/04/2020 22:24

Hi sorry I had a family quiz to attend over messenger so was away doing that!

Yes, I have taken temp when well numerous times and it's usually 36.3 and occasionally up to 36.5
I used two different thermometers and I'm pretty sure they are correct because they gave very similar readings, I tried them on my husband and the results we in the 36's and on the baby too. We tried against a cup of tea and the result just said "high" so I assume the thermometers just have a small scale.
The reason I tested was because I felt like I was really hot. My head was hot so we were both surprised when it came in so low.

@worldweary45 I feel about run down and tired but I have a seven month old and think that's just part and parcel! But I have noticed when out on walks and stuff my throat feels really cold which isn't like me usually and my neck muscles are a little tense/sore/achey bit not seriously sore or anything.
@nibdedibble I've always had what's been described as "very good" blood pressure I think it's like 60 (is it 60 beats per minute is perfect or something?) Even during pregnancy I was told it was spot on.

@Goingfarawsy that's interesting that so many are in the 35's...makes me feel better!

@ChikiTIKI thank you and congratulations! I had a bath and felt better afterwards. You may be into something with the dehydration too. I have drunk more water now and fell better.

@midnightstar66 wow that's crazy. Yeh I've heard of Raynaud's as my granny has it but that's mad feeling so poorly at 36.6! Wow hope you are feeling better now!

@mumwon no, no period as breastfeeding and it's not returned yet!

@ofwarren hope you are on the mend. I don't think I have any other symptoms of CV and I've had no contact with anyone except husband and baby for two weeks although husband is still at work but minimal contact. I guess it's possible but low risk

OP posts:
newbingepisodes · 04/04/2020 22:27

Mine is normally in the 36 range.

ofwarren · 04/04/2020 22:30

@Horehound
Yeah, it wouldn't be in isolation. I'm sure it's nothing. Keep an eye though because I ended up with a dodgy thyroid after having my last baby and that can show with low temperature.
I'm doing ok thanks. Tired but doing ok.

Toddlerteaplease · 04/04/2020 22:30

That the thermometer isn't in the right place. Or there is hair on the cover if it's an ear thermomete.
