747 from Istanbul to Maastricht, currently off the coast of South Wales 🤔

Flight no is TK6319.

it's heading to Dublin now??

lubeybooby · 02/04/2020 11:50

that's weird. way overshot Germany! Is it diverting or something?

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 11:50

There was a Heathrow to Bournemouth earlier in the week that went via Glasgow...work that out!

My theory is it needed to burn/dump fuel before parking up for months at Bournemouth.

Actually not Dublin, more Waterford Blush and reducing altitude

SinglePringle · 02/04/2020 11:53

It’s also dropping down in altitude

TheBlessedCheesemaker · 02/04/2020 11:54

Using normal take off slots to send unused planes to odd airports to park them up?

kilisibird · 02/04/2020 11:57

Flightradar24 error, that's all. It doesn't know where the aircraft is going. It has taken a guess based on the flight number but cargo flight numbers often cover lots of destinations, unlike scheduled flights. Common to see cargo incorrectly marked in FR24

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 11:57

Blessed maybe, but you'd assume that a Turkish registered plane would park up in Turkey not Ireland assuming he'll land somewhere at some point

Checked the arrivals board, he's not expected at Maastricht

FadedRed · 02/04/2020 11:57

Odd, do you think the flight details are incorrect? Surely it couldn’t have flown from Istanbul since 10.19, even with the hour clock difference that isn’t enough time for that distance?

kilisibird · 02/04/2020 11:58

Do you have any details? Flight number or aircraft reg? Day or even type of plane?

My theory is it needed to burn/dump fuel before parking up for months at Bournemouth.

That wouldn't be it.

LittleRen · 02/04/2020 11:58

The flight number is Istanbul to Maastricht, maasttricht to Shannon and Shannon to Chicago.
The next leg for the flight number is Shannon to Chicago. It’s supposed to be over Ireland

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 11:59

kili That's a pity, I was quite enjoying the "conspiracy" element of tracking it Grin

kilisibird · 02/04/2020 12:00

Also did it say GLA in the heading or did it actually fly to GLA? It could just have been the guess work based on flight number. If it did actually fly to Glasgow rather than an error in the heading that is really odd.

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 12:02

kili it was a BA flight. DH spotted it - Mon or Tues he thinks.

kilisibird · 02/04/2020 12:03

Where did he spot it? At GLA? Or on FR?

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 12:04

It def said Heathrow to Bournemouth. It didn't land at Glasgow, just looped and turned back south.
He was looking at flights in/out of MCR and spotted it on it's "return" leg iyswim

pussycatinboots · 02/04/2020 12:04

on FR

HavenDilemma · 02/04/2020 12:06

That's not really an odd flight pattern, I've seen much stranger paths, believe me! I work in Aviation

bettybattenburg · 02/04/2020 12:06

The Swedish Air Force are in the North Sea with a refuelling plane near by at the moment.

notimagain · 02/04/2020 12:08

My theory is it needed to burn/dump fuel before parking up for months at Bournemouth.

Doesn't sound right, more detail required.

TheDogsMother · 02/04/2020 12:09

There's a BA 777 leaving Gatwick now with no destination. I guess they are going somewhere to be parked up.

Mixitupalot · 02/04/2020 12:10

Odd, it’s at 7,000ft now.... where’s it going ?

kilisibird · 02/04/2020 12:10

It def said Heathrow to Bournemouth. It didn't land at Glasgow, just looped and turned back south.

That's interesting. BA moved 5 747's to Bournemouth this week. Potentially G-CIVP

HappyGG · 02/04/2020 12:12

Look at the flight path for FA20. Little Falcon having a whale of a time doing turns in the North Sea...

HavenDilemma · 02/04/2020 12:12

It's refuelling in Shannon presumably
