It can be frozen as it is or in ice cube trays. Or make macaroni cheese?

LadyMadderRose · 02/04/2020 09:33

See if neighbours want it? Milk is what my elderly neighbours need me to shop for, as it hasn't been coming with their deliveries.

Or make cheese, but I'm not sure if it works with red top - have a google.

actually you can freeze milk

80sMum · 02/04/2020 09:34

In my experience milk keeps much beyond its date. If kept in the fridge yours will still be perfectly OK to use normally up to about the 9th, maybe later.

Gotthetshirt23 · 02/04/2020 09:35

Smoothies , sauces , freeze

It’s too bad it is skim milk because otherwise you could make rice pudding. You still can, it just won’t be very creamy.

You could make a chowder- which is a milk based potato and onion soup that you either add sweet corn or clams or white fish to.

You could make milkshakes- can do different flavours, like vanilla ice cream and strawberries, or banana and chocolate.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 02/04/2020 09:36

Freeze it or donate it.

Duckchick · 02/04/2020 09:36

Bread and butter pudding or a white sauce e.g. in cauliflower cheese use loads. You could make yoghurt if you have any live yoghurt in your fridge, you don't need a yoghurt maker or anything, a hot water bottle in a cooling bag will keep it warm enough.

YangShanPo · 02/04/2020 09:37

Have 100 cups of tea ☕

80sMum · 02/04/2020 09:37

It's pretty easy to tell if it's gone off. Keep using it as normal, but just sniff and taste each morning. I've often put milk that's a week past its date on my cereal and it's been fine. On average it keeps fresh 5 days beyond its date.

AdaColeman · 02/04/2020 09:38

Rice pudding
Baked egg custard
White sauce for lasagna, chicken supreme etc

Pancakes, freeze and have a few for breakfast over the next week Smile

FreakStar · 02/04/2020 09:40

It won't immediately become rancid as the clock turns midnight on the 4th April!

Just keep using it normally until it smells/tastes off- milk is useually fine well after its Use By date.

AdaColeman · 02/04/2020 09:41

If it goes sour, you can use some to make scones.

maddy68 · 02/04/2020 09:41

Freeze it until you can use it

Standrewsschool · 02/04/2020 09:42

MayTheGodsBeEverInYourFavour · 02/04/2020 09:44

Skimmed milk often keeps well past its date, as it is the fat that goes rancid that causes it to go off. If you're trying to buy milk to last as long as possible, you should always get skimmed. Each morning & evening, smell it, pour a little out & check if it looks off, then taste a tiny dab on your tongue. It won't harm you, even if it is off, it will just taste a bit weird. Easiest way to check is, it will curdle in hot drinks. Obviously, throw it once it goes off!

I was always the last student to leave our house-share, so I always got the lovely job of sorting the milk...

FreakStar · 02/04/2020 09:45

But if you are one of those that chucks stuff out on the date regardless- then,

Porridge for breakfast uses loads,
Hot chocolate,
Milkshake,
Macaroni cheese.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 02/04/2020 09:58

Freeze it but as other have said, it wont be off by 4th April if you have a fridge at the right temp. I regularly drink milk a week past the date and haven't been ill from it yet. you'll know when it's off because it will mell and taste sour.
