With regard to freezing, you can decant into smaller Tupperware, other plastic bottles, etc. I had the same issue with 4 pints of ss - kept the last pint in the fridge in the original container, froze the other 3 separately to use one by one.

Freeze it

AlexaCrowe · 02/04/2020 10:23

I’d do as PP said and freeze into ice cube bags or trays and use it in drinks. You can make iced coffee with it or use it to cool hot drinks down to room temperature. Also use it in milkshakes to make them colder/last longer.

Alternatively make a shit load of angel delight and dream topping.

If you have decent sandwich bags you can make sauces and freeze flat. Saves on space in the freezer.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/04/2020 11:00

4th April is this Saturday. That means, realistically speaking, you have until next Friday to use it up. It won't spontaneously combust when it reaches its use by date!

Hollyhead · 02/04/2020 11:02

You’ll get at least 2-3 days past 4th to use it up.

Marylou62 · 02/04/2020 11:07

Off to make scones now! Thanks for tip..(not that I've got a surplus of milk..Just fancy scones!)

DuckyMcDuck · 02/04/2020 11:22

Your freezer is chocker and you have 4pints of milk about to go off that you don’t actually need?

I’m all for not wasting food so I’m glad you asked for advice but I’m also wondering if you’d be one of those people who believes they didn’t panic buy?

zonedoutallnight · 02/04/2020 12:49

It's possible to have a full freezer without having panic bought surely? Mine is full because it always is. Every so often we go through a phase of using up the frozen food that's been there for months. Which is very often leftover bolognaise, meat that was about to go out of date, etc etc.

Nacknick · 02/04/2020 12:55

Why have you got so much milk that you won't be able to use?

AutumnRose1 · 02/04/2020 12:57

If your freezer is chocker already, I’d give it away.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 02/04/2020 13:07

Why would you give it away when you can use it? Like I said above, there is probably over a weeks' life left in it yet.

Divebar · 02/04/2020 13:08

My freezer is always full because I tend to overshop naturally - coming from a household of over abundance. That being said I don’t like waste so things are rotated regularly. Dairy will keep beyond its sell by dates if it’s been kept properly. Yoghurts can be fine weeks after their dates - you just have to use your sense of smell or taste to determine if it’s ok. If you’ve got any live yoghurt in your fridge you could actually make yoghurt from your milk ( you need some live cultures to act as a starter). I’ve never tried it with skimmed milk though so you’d need to research how effective the results would be. As an aside ( and not particularly pertaining to this OP but generally speaking) I’ve found this whole situation very enlightening as to how over reliant people have become on supermarkets and how incapable some seem to be regarding cooking and whipping up nice meals from scratch.

mogtheexcellent · 02/04/2020 13:11

It will last beyond 4th April. Especially if skimmed.

Marylou62 · 02/04/2020 19:09

Sorry Ducky.. didn't see this message..yes I do..my Mum made them all the time.
350g SR flour, pinch salt, tsp baking powder. Cut up 85g cold butter and rub into breadcrumbs..warm 175ml milk in microwave for 30 secs..add tsp vanilla and splash lemon juice.. make well then tip in milk and mix with knife..kneed gently use cutters and put on preheated baking tray, brushing with beaten egg. 200 fan for 10 mins.. enjoy!

MNnicknameforCVthreads · 02/04/2020 19:13

As others have said, it will last well past the 4th. Just keep using it til it smells off.

mrsawhite · 02/04/2020 19:14

DuckyMcDuck · 02/04/2020 21:34

Thanks @Marylou62
I'll give them ago as soon as we can get some butter in the shops!

AdaColeman · 02/04/2020 21:38

Try drop scones too, they use milk, and are quick and easy.
