Wrong lyrics you sang as a kid

I've been rediscovering a lot of my old 80's favourites during this weird time. I suspect it's a bit of a comfort blanket as all stuff I would listen to as a kid. I was a total Stock Aitken and Waterman pop fan and loved all of their stuff. Which brings me to the lyrics I was convinced I could hear.

I bring you, Bananarama:

Only you can set me free
Cos I'm guilty, guilty
Guilty as a BROKEN BEE

I genuinely thought that was the lyric. Any others?!

Listen to Kenny Rogers singing Lucille, I always thought he had four hundred children and a crop in the field Grin

PeskyRooks · 31/03/2020 18:54

Pink Floyd The Wall always thought it was

No cats or dogs are in the classroom...

I thought Madonna was singing "Come on, bowls" when i was listening to vogue.

And kool and the gang were singing about cherry delight (a flavour of angel delight, that as a kid, I was very keen to try) instead of cherish the life.

I also thought that everytime Paul Young was going away he was taking a piece of meat with him.

‘Oohoohooh, Miss Grace

Bee Gees had terrible diction. I swear they were singing in How Deep Is Your Love:

When you come to me on a submarine

And

When the auction let us bid.

DH thought Spandau Ballet were singing 'I know there's budgies, too'

DS was convinced Fatboy Slim was urging us to 'praise you like a shoe'.

geordiema77 · 31/03/2020 19:11

Not as a kid but as a grown woman....

"Break my knees so I can't move"

was actually

"Break my lease so I can move"

Turning a song that I thought was ultra violent into a cheeky little RnB number by Destiny's Child.....Blush

I certainly did not realise I was singing the wrong words for TWO DECADES. oh no.....

“Can’t stand gravy....it’s always been” - Constant craving

“I try and say goodbye my chook” (in a geordie accent) - goodbye and I choke

Can’t stand gravy....it’s always been

God sent gravy....

This has made we weep with laughter

Best one I ever heard of was on MN.

Apparently a poster or a relative had though Meatloaf was singing about

'A Cilla Black fan on a bike'

(instead of silver black phantom bike)

Until a couple of weeks ago...

Happily singing along to 'Judy in the sky, with glasses'... Thinking it made no sense.

Noticing on car stereo the song is listed as 'Judy in Disguise'. Makes sense now...Blush

OP - that Bananarama song... Me and my sister always thought it was 'guilty as a COOKER FLEA' (whatever that is).

My children are terrible at understanding and remembering lyrics. George Ezra 'Shotgun' always starts with 'Uddy Wuddy Shotgun...'. There's no reasoning with them.
