Never heard so many sirens

I’m in Hertfordshire. A town which is usually busy but obviously very quiet now.

It seems that there are so many police and fire sirens going off throughout the day.

Is it just where I am or is anyone noticing a lot more than usual?

Yep, was a thread about this a few days ago. I notice at least 6 a day, usually ambulance or fire brigade, surprisingly enough. We are in an outer corner of London

WhyNotMe40 · 30/03/2020 16:38

I'm noticing more but I think it's because there is less general traffic and other noise, so it's more noticeable

Witchend · 30/03/2020 16:43

I would say far less. I'm at work and a police station and fire station up the road. I haven't heard one in ages whereas they're normally a few times a day

doadeer · 30/03/2020 16:54

There's a big reduction around me. I live zone 3 of London and we usually hear a lot but recently hardly any

ALemonyPea · 30/03/2020 17:04

I've heard more police sirens, live near a main road and loads of people are getting pulled over and being asked where they are going.

scrivette · 30/03/2020 17:06

I have heard more too but I think it's because everywhere is quieter, the birds seem louder too which is lovely.

ComtesseDeSpair · 30/03/2020 17:06

I’m noticing far fewer, and live right by the Royal London Hospital in Whitechapel. A friend is an A&E consultant at same hospital and has said that relatively few of their Coronavirus patients require emergency ambulatory with lights and sirens, as a) it isn’t an every second counts situation like e.g. a heart attack or traumatic injury and b) less traffic means roads are much clearer, so if you’re noticing more sirens it’s probably because there’s less background noise.

sockittome123 · 30/03/2020 17:07

I live in a town notorious for high crime rates but haven't heard a peep in the last few days! I do live in one of the nicer areas of it though so maybe that's it Grin

WorraLiberty · 30/03/2020 17:10

Far far less where I am (East London/Essex).

The helicopter has only been up once too in the last week and that was for a car chase.

Inkpaperstars · 30/03/2020 17:12

I haven't heard any more than normal and thinking about it, maybe fewer. I usually hear a lot every night esp.

What is strange though is that ones I have seen have driver in full hazmat style suit..

TheSpottedZebra · 30/03/2020 17:14

There was that family annihilation fire in Hemel, is it anything to do with that?

TheSpottedZebra · 30/03/2020 17:15

Obvs that would only account for today/yesterday.

I think it's more the lack of traffic in general, allows us to hear that that there is better.

prickledgherkins · 30/03/2020 17:18

I thnk it's where you are, I can't remember the last time I heard a siren, plane or car.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 30/03/2020 17:19

Fair few sirens here but TBH there usually are , maybe I dont notice them?
Police helicopter overhead on Saturday (again, not uncommon)

I'm wondering if I can drive to work without being stopped ?

pickletickled · 30/03/2020 17:22

I live less than a mile from the ambulance base and the hospital and I'm hearing them a lot more often in the last few weeks.
Police are blue lighting more as well.
We're only a small Town and normally don't hear/see them as much as this.

Reginabambina · 30/03/2020 17:28

I’ve heard one since lockdown. I must live in a very boring placce

kimlo · 30/03/2020 17:35

I've been hearing more. Three went past in less than an hour the other day, not all going in the direction of the hospital either.

EmmiJay · 30/03/2020 17:35

I'm in North London, one of the busiest boroughs for crime etc. I heard a siren this morning and realised I hadn't heard one for a while👀 whether thats a good thing or bad I don't know but my area is eerily quiet atm so who knows.

Pishposhpashy · 30/03/2020 17:36

I live in south east London right near Lewisham hospital and honestly I have heard far fewer than usual

Bringringbring12 · 30/03/2020 17:37

Much less traffic so much more noticeable

Mychitchatdays · 30/03/2020 17:38

I live next to an ambulance station. It's much quieter than usual.

NemophilistRebel · 30/03/2020 17:39

I don’t think these are ambulance sirens it all sounds like police mainly with the odd fire truck too wondering if maybe there’s an increase in anti social behaviour and younguns ignoring the lockdown rules

OP posts:
Pishposhpashy · 30/03/2020 17:55

Not here there isnt, and theres usually stabbings and muggings a plenty

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 30/03/2020 18:54

I’ve hardly heard any, and yet we live quite close to a major hospital in outer SW London

Davros · 30/03/2020 18:58

I'm in zone two, very near a big London teaching hospital and I've heard one in the last week or so. It doesn't mean they didn't happen, maybe I didn't hear them. I don't understand why there would be more as I thought they use them to get through traffic and there isn't any
