I'm using the time to find small independent suppliers so I can move my custom away from big supermarkets, we'd started this anyway but are ramping up efforts now.

Start exploring my (relatively) local area. Although my weeks are pretty much the same (renovating the house, by ourselves) until we run out of raw materials. Weekends were spent just resting or pottering. After 'all this is over', I'll be doing a lot more.....

lachy · 29/03/2020 10:44

I've had a milkman for about 6 months because I wanted to cut down on plastic waste. Aside from an emergency pint, I've not bought milk in a supermarket (or juice or eggs) since. I doubt I'll ever stop using them.

I've shopped locally for fruit and vegetables, and will continue to.

I've spent way less money. Take away coffee (in my reusable mug) and lunch a couple of times a week adds up. So that habit will change.

Its been a real eye opener.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/03/2020 10:52

Not much really, we've used Riverford and the milkman for years, will try and use more local suppliers for non food items though. Otherwise we can't wait to get back to school, work and all our sports and dance classes.

BlackCatSleeping · 29/03/2020 10:56

To try to save up some money somehow. I'd love a couple of month's worth of wages just in case.

PristineCondition · 29/03/2020 10:58

Stockpile
I didn't and why other are buying kids laptops and climbing frames parents round here are struggling to find food for each day and paying a premium if we manage to

Icare1234 · 29/03/2020 11:02

Unfortunately the town I live in and normal 9-5 mean I’ll probably go back to supermarket. I’d love to say I’ll change my life style but a year or two from now I will likely be more like before.

Peanut55 · 29/03/2020 11:07

I don't need to go to the supermarket every other day, even after doing a weekly shop.

Ashamed to say I did that before

goldpartyhat · 29/03/2020 11:30

Look at all the diy, spring cleaning and decorating I've done around the house, and thank god I have done it all.

DullPortraits · 29/03/2020 11:51

@whiskybysidedoor

I used to work at amazon before i moved house to where i am now. I still speak to my friends back there and they have all been given a £2 an hour pay rise, all meals on shift are free and anyone high risk/ vulnerable or living with high risk/ vulnerable family members are being paid as normal to self isolate for the recommended 12 weeks. There are measures in place which are strictly monitored to allow social distancing.

I have been flamed many times on here for my positive experiences working at amazon mostly by people "who read the daily mail so it must be true" brigade. I was only an unskilled warehouse worker as are my friends who continue to work there and have never witnessed any of the complaints which apparently are common practice there eg not allowed to use the toilet or have a drink outside allocated break times its all an absolute load of rubbish and the targets set each day are fair and easily reached even on a go slow day when you can't be arsed lol you just aren't able to take the piss or get paid for standing around doing bugger all which pisses lazy people off so they complain

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 29/03/2020 11:52

Continue to use the new local food suppliers we’ve found if they continue the service after.

Be more mindful of food, we were trying to ensure less waste but have been really strict re waste and want to continue this.

9millioncansofbeans · 29/03/2020 11:56

Also- I’m going to stop wearing make up every day. I have absolutely loved not wearing it . I’ve not blow dried my hair once either. Just wash and go . It’s lovely. I’m actually really enjoying lock down!

playthestation · 29/03/2020 12:12

I am going to plan every meal so we have no waste.

I'm going to be slightly ahead of the game when shopping for toilet rolls - usually grab a pack when we are on our last!

I'm also voting with my feet so I will never set foot in sports direct again - we don't buy a lot from there anyway but they were always good for Adidas football stuff. I am looking into how all of my 'usual' places have treated their staff and will shop accordingly from now on, and I want to support the smaller, local businesses more.

I also have a feeling I will always wipe the supermarket trolley etc before using it.

MyBabyBoyBlue · 29/03/2020 12:22

Be more mindful about planning meals in advance, spend more time with my toddler, stress less about things in general. Take better care of my health.

LittleAtlas · 29/03/2020 13:03

Make the most of the countryside, beaches and national trust for days out and spend less time indoors.

Not take for granted spending time with people outside of my household!

LargeGinOnTap · 29/03/2020 14:24

Been doing the joe wicks pe lessons. And whilst I'm not sure I could put up with him for ever maybe I could find an other version of him YouTube more to my taste and do it on a more constant basis

PatchworkMultiColouredKoshka · 29/03/2020 14:28

I've signed up with our local milkman and our lcoal butcher for home deliveries.

Never did the milkman before as he is a bit of a grumpy arse (and quite expensive).

Never did the butcher before as i usually walk to the shop.

But they are coming through big time for home support and so I am sticking with it.

PatchworkMultiColouredKoshka · 29/03/2020 14:32

and... my family are in a different country. We live here because of DH's family- yet they were elderly and now have passed on. I never really motivated myself to move us back home.

That might change.

Also- I have spent too much time working really hard for my employers who are shits. If I stay with them after this is all over then i will either go part time (and fuck em... i have asked for years to go part time and they have said ti would not be good for the business.... I earn £9 fucking pounds an hour and am now working 2 jobs due to furloughed colleagues) or I will quit entirely. I will keep going utnil this crisis is over- and will commit myself to 12 months in their service if that is what is takes but then- screw them. They will have to adapt to my needs for a change.

nowaitaminute · 29/03/2020 14:33

Slooow down!! I was already on top of my food wastage and bills,we don't spend unnecessarily but we always have a store of useful food as we live rurally and used to live in an earthquake/hurricane zone! But I think like a pp said I have realised that family and health is THE most important thing in life! Big houses, big cars, designer gear (not that I'm into ANY of that!) is neither here nor their in this kind of pandemic. I'm glad that we are lucky to have very few bills! We only have electricity and life/health insurance that come out monthly so we don't stretch our finances.

coldwarenigma · 29/03/2020 14:53

Try to drive around less, although I drive 60 miles a day for work and I go back to work tomorrow. (I had taken holiday while the govt decided what was essential plus who was vulnerable, although DH doesn't qualify I'm dreading going back to work, getting the virus and then passing it to him, as he is frail and over 70)
I'm planning on going vegetarian after we have gone through our food stock. I don't feel comfortable eating meat now. As I use food I will replace with plant based diet. Mixing it up until all the old food is used.
Continue to keep a store cupboard. I had already stocked up and as a result have not needed to shop at all.
We have a dog so a walk each day is normal but I actually like the social distancing.

ExpletiveDelighted · 29/03/2020 16:30

I don't like the social distancing at all, I'm always out and about normally and like nothing better than a natter with friends and acquaintances, Whatsapp is a lot better than nothing but nowhere near as good. It feels so unnatural having to talk to people from metres away instead of close up when you bump into them out and about.

selfisolatingsince2007 · 29/03/2020 16:31

Meal plan and have stock up on more non perishables!

LochJessMonster · 29/03/2020 16:50

By holiday insurance. Always buy the cancellation insurance.

aibutohavethisusername · 29/03/2020 17:08

Go to more independent restaurants and cafes, farm shops etc.

dreamingofsun · 29/03/2020 17:17

appreciate international travel more. Also appreciate the people who work in my local supermarket who have done a really good job at keeping us fed.

pastaparadise · 29/03/2020 17:34

Continue a compost heap. Our green bin collection has stopped which is the catalyst, but plan to keep it up.

Have a veg patch.
I miss socialising but dont miss rushing the kids around so will try to keep life slower and simpler.
Cant wait to go on holiday again though...
