First time mother here, so as you probably already guessed, my question is:
how do you change your little one without getting peed on?? Blush

I've read that some say speed changing/look out for signs of his peepee erect etc, and that's something that can be learned.. but how do you speed change and make sure that he's cleaned properly? My baby has a bit of sensitive skin, so I want to make sure that he's cleaned well quickly... without getting 'christened' by pee. 😅

Thanks!

They tend to wee when exposed to the air, so I used to take the nappy off then hold it over for a few seconds/hold a wipe over for a few seconds 😂

DelurkingAJ · 28/03/2020 14:34

I used to hold a towel over him whilst I cleaned him up. At least then only the towel got wet...

LazyYogi · 28/03/2020 14:36

It stopped for a while but this morning 4 month old ds managed to soak the clean clothes I'd laid out for him Hmm
You can try putting the new nappy under his bum ready to cover if he starts but I've found if you cover too soon he stops only to start again once uncovered Grin

Put a clean nappy draped over the front while you clean the rest.

Thesearmsofmine · 28/03/2020 14:38

Undo the nappy for a few seconds then pop it back over to catch the wee that comes then change his nappy or pop a flannel over him to catch the wee. I have 3 boys and promise it gets better!

Chocolateandcarbs · 28/03/2020 14:41

Pop a baby wipe over the front!

I also used to hold the nappy over the danger zone for a few seconds.
I also used to unravel a cotton wool ball and place it strategically to soak up any run away wee, although I don't know if that's environmentally friendly.

user1493413286 · 28/03/2020 14:43

Put a baby wipe over it

DanceToTheMusicInMyHead · 28/03/2020 14:43

I put a muslin over the top as soon as I took the nappy off to catch Grin

Callimanco · 28/03/2020 14:44

Baby wipes aren't absorbent enough, a towel is a waste.
What you need is a breast pad - disposable or washable, doesn't matter. Clap it over the offending area as you take the nappy off.
Sounds gavel, case closed.

Bumpsadaisie · 28/03/2020 14:45

Pop a muslin over his willy while you clean.

TokyoSushi · 28/03/2020 14:45

Undo, open, close, wait, change! It'll stop soon enough!

RHTawneyonabus · 28/03/2020 14:47

My reusable breast pads were the perfect size! Luckily it stops after a few weeks.

MamaDane · 28/03/2020 14:47

Mother of 7 month old twin boys 🙈 Open the nappy, hold a muslin over him or hold the old nappy over the willy after exposing him to the air, wait til he finishes weeing, then completely take off the nappy and put the new one on.
Personally sleep deprivation always made me forget to cover it and I got peed on constantly 🥴
They hardly ever do it now thankfully.

sometimesalways · 28/03/2020 14:49

I bought something these tiny towel-y conical thingies off of amazon and they did the job. You can wash and reuse

DodgeRainClouds · 28/03/2020 15:04

Muslin over the top as it’s the cold air that causes them to wee

BogRollBOGOF · 28/03/2020 15:14

Open nappy, briefly expose, re-cover. Be ready, and efficient.

DS1 was like a roulette wheel. DS2 not so bad.

DS1 was less than a week old on his first Christmas Day. Oh how I laughed when he weed on his own face, and remember wondering if baby Jesus did the same too Grin

Pinkywoo · 28/03/2020 15:18

I put a reusable wipe under his bum so if he does wee it gets absorbed rather than spreading into his clothes, when he was tiny I'd put one over him too.

StarsThatTwinkle · 28/03/2020 15:19

Drape a muslin over the top as soon as you've taken nappy off.

BackforGood · 28/03/2020 15:22

Agree with the "expect it when you take the nappy off and expose them to some fresh air" folk, by opening nappy, let fresh air in, but don't remove, then hold nappy over, to catch the pee, then continue in safety.

Greendin · 28/03/2020 15:26

Cover with a flannel

KrystleA · 28/03/2020 16:35

@DelurkingAJ I did that too, but then the pee flowed backwards to his clothes... 🤦🏻‍♀️😅
@whataballbag yup, did that too but he chose the moment I lifted his nappy to start peeing 😒😂
@KrystleA
@LazyYogi TELL ME ABOUT IT 🤣
@chocolateandcarbs I did, but then he peed, soaked the wet wipe, and flowed all over 😐
@Thesearmsofmine good to know! 😆
@Callimanco NOW THAT'S AN IDEA! Haha thank you! 😃😆
@BogRollBOGOF 🤣🤣

When ever I use to change my DS Nappy i would put cotton wool ball or a wipe over his willy so that if he did pee it wouldn't go everywhere but there were a few incidents when I'd forget getting peed on or him once peeing on his own face bless him I'll never forget his little face looking at me as if to say you peed on me mummy 🤣 bless him

Marylou62 · 28/03/2020 18:54

I used to be a neonatal intensive care nurse and now a nanny and mother of 3 so you can imagine how many nappies I've changed! The funniest was when I was changing a baby in an incubator.. when I bent down to get something from the cupboard under he peed through the porthole right in my ear! This won't go on forever..
