Parents of baby boys! I need your help!

First time mother here, so as you probably already guessed, my question is:
how do you change your little one without getting peed on?? Blush

I've read that some say speed changing/look out for signs of his peepee erect etc, and that's something that can be learned.. but how do you speed change and make sure that he's cleaned properly? My baby has a bit of sensitive skin, so I want to make sure that he's cleaned well quickly... without getting 'christened' by pee. 😅

Thanks!

Remind him of it when he's 5/6. DS finds the fact that he weed on us hilarious.

Remmy123 · 29/03/2020 08:23

I've 3 boys and this has never happened to me before!

We always put a tissue over to catch it

KrystleA · 29/03/2020 09:06

I have two DS’s and this only happened to me twice I think. Both times in the middle of the night on the bed which wasn’t fun but it didn’t happen every single nappy change by any means...

sar302 · 29/03/2020 10:23

As an aside, make sure everything is "pointing down" when you put the nappy on. Else they wee upwards in the nappy and get a wet vest.

Never had an issue with errant nappy change wee, but got caught out as above a number of times before I realised what was going on!

Rubychard · 29/03/2020 10:37

Mine once filled his ear up with wee as he peed while I was lifting his legs up.

《Sorry, that's not helpful》

Bumpsadaisie · 29/03/2020 14:37

OP - on a separate but related note I'll pass this on as I only found out when my two were week out of baby vests ....

Baby vests have envelope shoulder sleeves so if they are wet/poorly, you can pull them DOWN over the legs rather than over their head.

Sorry to my DD and DS for all the dirty vests I pulled off over their heads ....

happytoday73 · 29/03/2020 14:44

Pointing down is important as PP have said...
While changing my eldest sons nappy on a park bench many years ago he managed to wee all over his face... 🙈😂
The old lady sat next to us giggling hysterically.. Turns out she'd had a gang of boys and we'd brought back memories!

KrystleA · 30/03/2020 03:24

@Rubychard is that even possible?? Hahahahaha!
@Bumpsadaisie 😲 that's definitely a life-changer! Thanks for the info! 👍🏻
@happytoday73 all this pee business was the first thing I thought of when I found out I was expecting a boy 🤣

You will get faster at changing the nappy and he’ll stop peeing. Lie him on the new nappy so it’s right there when you whip the old one off. Clothes as far away as possible.

Rubychard · 30/03/2020 08:04

@KrystleA it is if he peed as you lift his legs to slide a clean nappy under his bum

ThursdayLastWeek · 30/03/2020 08:07

Oh the bittersweet pleasure if laughing so much your Caesarian hurts when your newborn boy pisses in his own face.

Lots of good tips OP, IIRC it doesn’t last too long.

Bumpsadaisie · 30/03/2020 08:12

Come back OP when he's a toddler and we can pass on stage 2 advice. Eg what to do when your little boy jumps on your head and whips his pants off to show you that his willy "is GROWING Mummy!!!!!!"Smile

ArtichokeAardvark · 30/03/2020 08:19

I always popped a cotton wool ball over his willy to catch the pee. And if you don't manage to catch it, you need inco pads on top of the changing mat to soak up the pee before it runs onto his clothes. You can get small ones cheaply on amazon, rather than the extortionate patterned Pampers ones Hmm

Walkthedinosauuuuur · 30/03/2020 08:27

Cotton pad!

Cardboard33 · 30/03/2020 08:35

Just assume it will happen so open the nappy then hold it there for a bit to catch the wee before continuing. The worst bit is when they poo and wee at the same time... Mine has just turned one and he's stopped doing it for the majority of time now, it's actually quite rare now, although I don't remember when he stopped doing it.

WhateverHappenedToBathPearls · 30/03/2020 08:39

We got some cheap facecloths and used to pop one over when the nappy came off. They usually absorbed enough

BabyLlamaZen · 30/03/2020 08:42

Put a wipe or tissue on top whilst you're cleaning around. It doesn't happen every time, more when they're cold.

SoupDragon · 30/03/2020 08:42

Ah.... fond memories. DS1 once peed in his father's face.

doodlejump1980 · 30/03/2020 08:45

Another mother of twin boys here! @MamaDane Ours are five now. It does get better!
We used loads of flannels at nappy change time to stop the arc of pee and also to soak up any leaks if they did happen. Also make sure it’s pointing down when you put the nappy back on.

KnittingSister · 30/03/2020 09:10

My newborn DS was on my lap just on a towel because of nappy rash. I was eating my breakfast. A perfect arc of urine landed straight in my bowl of cereal Grin

emwithme · 30/03/2020 10:19

My DD peed in her own face once when tiny. I lifted her feet to pull the nappy out and she started weeing and the angle was just right for it to arc round and get her. She was Not Amused, we all thought it was hilarious

Chista · 30/03/2020 10:27

Teepee peepee or cheeky wipe
