I know, one week in, but DS2 was waaay overdue a haircut when they closed and has fine frizzy hair that grows horizontally. DD2's hair was down to her waist and in serious need of a good cut, but she's a nurse just ties it up.

She asked me to cut it yesterday.. had a quick youtube google, and I successfully took 6 inches off with my sewing scissors! It looks so much better and you really can't tell that I did it!

Going to look at tutorials for DS2's next as he's going to look like Ronald McDonald if we leave it a few more weeks!

I’ve always done my DS hair, I learned from online tutorials. Coming into summer it’s no4 on top, no2 at sides, just go slowly with clippers as it’s easy to get carried away.

also easy haircut ^

I'm a dog groomer and have been cutting my Mum's and husband's hair for years.

If you're nervous just take a bit off at a time, it's much easier than you think.

Dear god no!
We don’t care what we look like trapped indoors, our hair can wait until the world has returned to normal.
The last thing I need is to be trapped indoors with angry people Grin

There’s a ridiculous but quite hilarious ‘trend’ rippling through my husbands friends (in the most part, old-young farmers and rugby players, at the moment, for the worst (or best, depends on how you look at it) mullets and bowl cuts they (or their girlfriends/wives for them!) can manage... the photos are so funny!
I’ve been needing a trim and a colour refresh for a while but was going to do it as a payday treat at the end of this month.... dammit 😂

megletthesecond · 28/03/2020 11:09

I've trimmed 13yr old DS's fringe.
He sent me a huffy WhatsApp 15 mins later with a photo saying he looked like a monk Blush.

strawberrylipgloss · 28/03/2020 11:12

How old's you son? It's actually a viral trend for teen boys to shave their head completely "Lockdown hair" because they are unlikely to be able to see a barber for a longtime.

Raindancer411 · 28/03/2020 11:14

I just cut my husbands lol 😂

AndNoneForGretchenWieners · 28/03/2020 11:15

I keep threatening to cut DS's hair - he has a double crown and goes to the barber's regularly to have it just short enough so his hair doesn't stick up like a duck's bum, and a skin fade round the sides. His last trim was 3 weeks ago and it is at the stage where it sticks up, but he's very protective and has taken to using my hairspray to tidy it. He's an adult. I used to do his hair with the clippers when he was small but it seems that's in the past!

WatchingFromTheWings · 28/03/2020 11:20

I'm doing the DH and youngest DS later! Did my eldest DS hair for years until he wanted 'fashion cuts' at the barbers and started paying for his own. My DD is 17 and only been to a hair dressers once in her life. I'd never make it as a hairdresser myself but don't do too badly!

Not cut my own hair in years tho. Not sure I'm flexible enough to get round the back nowadays!

Geometricprince · 28/03/2020 11:24

Mine desperately needs doing, it's way overdue as I'd been putting it off then was self isolating before lockdown started. I know I'll make a total mess of it but it's really annoying me at the moment and it's not like I'm going to be seeing anyone!

andadietcoke · 28/03/2020 11:27

I'm considering doing the MN ponytail cut on DT2. Her hair was desperate for a cut before - it's fine and long and gets tangled easily, and it's getting worse.

rjebgf · 28/03/2020 11:30

We just won’t be cutting hair. If ds’s gets too long and irritating, I will take the dog’s hair cutting scissors to it!

Sgtmajormummy · 28/03/2020 11:30

DS (21) has been experimenting with hair and beard styles. Last week he looked like THIS...

Ineedwine1 · 28/03/2020 11:31

Yes! I cut about 4/5 inches off mine for a collarbone length Bob. I love it 😊

Sgtmajormummy · 28/03/2020 11:33

Now, with my help he looks like THIS. He was going for the Peaky Blunders severe undercut.

I have nearly always cut DD's hair. She's been to the hairdressers 3 times in 13 years. It looks better when I cut it. She's been cutting my hair since she was 7. I colour it, she cuts it. It saves a lot of money.

Sgtmajormummy · 28/03/2020 11:35

Blinders!

Abelino · 28/03/2020 11:35

For anyone with curly hair, I really recommend this video for cutting it yourself (you cut it dry, I can't remember if she mentions that in the video)

TheSparkling · 28/03/2020 11:51

Teen DD has not had a haircut for about three years, I was just on the point of persuading her to let me book an appointment when the lockdown happened.
She then mithered me to trim it and I did take about two inches off, thought it looked ok.

A day later, she then decided that she wanted it all off. She has been mentioning it for a while and has a whole pinterest page of females with very short clippered hair. After some serious discussion (she is 16) I let her loose with the clippers. No 2 on the back and no 4 on top. She looks amazing, makes her features stand out on her face. She is so pretty.
No issue with school as she is left last year and her job have put all their employees on furlough.

She says she doesn't regret it all.

ginghamstarfish · 28/03/2020 11:56

I always cut mine and DH's hair, it's not that hard and there are lots of youtube videos etc. I'm sure most people could do it.

RunsForGummyBears · 28/03/2020 12:04

Cutting your own (and others) hair is so much easier if you have the proper scissors for it. And if you're worried do a little at a time. When I used to cut my hair short I would do it over the course of a few days. I haven't had a professional haircut since I was teenager and honestly I do a much better job than they ever managed to!

Patchworksack · 28/03/2020 12:04

I did my 9 yr olds' and it looks ok. No 4 clippers back and sides and scissors on top. I think I might carry on, he hates going to the barbers and it saved me £8.

Natsku · 28/03/2020 12:04

DD wants to grow her hair longer so that's not a problem, I grew out my fringe a few months ago so my hair isn't a problem either (though wish I had got a trim before this all got so bad as I don't like it long) but I DS's hair is an unruly mop. I had planned on taking him for his first haircut soon but now I can't and its getting in his eyes and he pulls out hairclips quickly. I shall just have to try and trim his fringe somehow but he hates it - isn't fussed about scissors near him but as soon as he realises I've taken away some of his hair he gets very upset!

Amicompletelyinsane · 28/03/2020 12:06

I cut my sons. Did so well until I went just to neaten up a bit at the end. I forgot the guard. He now has a bald patch 🤣 lucky no one will see him

totallydevoidofideas · 28/03/2020 12:28

I LOVE cutting peoples hair and have scissors! Usually dh and ds don't let me anywhere near them but I have hopes they will get desperate enough soon. I've tried doing my own a bit but it's my colour I'm more bothered by...all sorts of mess now.
