Reckon this was the BBQ posted about earlier on MN behind someone’s mums house. (Can’t find the thread now)

Can’t believe they wouldn’t disperse even for the police! Shock

I feel like I’ve said this a million times in the last week but what is wrong with people?

juan I had the same thought when I saw that story in the news, it was a MNer’s neighbour Grin

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 24/03/2020 21:57

Idiots

RandomlyChosenName · 24/03/2020 21:58

I hope it was the same BBQ. Surely there weren’t two?!

The blurred photo looks like a bunch of teenagera...

Thepigeonsarecoming · 24/03/2020 22:02

I posted this link a few hours ago. The OP responded it wasn’t the same, hers was Manchester

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:06

Christ so there were at least 2 of them! Shocking. What utter assholes.

Divebar · 24/03/2020 22:10

I think I need help - these stories really make me want to hit people. I think a couple of blow to the thighs would probably have moved things along a bit. ( NB I wanted to write head but thought it might be too much)

Blewbell · 24/03/2020 22:12

So why didn't the police issued fines? They tipped over the BBQ instead? This isn't exactly going to deter people.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:18

I don’t get it either. No fines? Why? Do they not have the authority to issue them yet? If not why wasn’t that sorted before the lockdown? Surely day 1 is the day to go heavy on the consequences to make the message sink in loud and clear!

OP posts:
Divebar · 24/03/2020 22:19

I’m wondering if they haven’t been briefed about the legislation yet... it won’t be something that they will have been called to use before now & its all happening extremely quickly.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 24/03/2020 22:20

No the authority is not in place yet, I think they said it will be on Thursday

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:25

Oh well that’s just bloody ridiculous! It should have been in place for the start of lockdown. Now people will just take the complete piss until Thursday! Why on earth wasn’t this lockdown properly orchestrated? Only today was there any clarity on what jobs/businesses are allowed to stay open. And even still some businesses aren’t sure. It’s almost as if a clown is running the show Hmm

It’s all moving so fast, I don’t think the government expected people to flood the beaches and treat social distancing and home working as a holiday.

They announced it Monday but there’s a lot of legal stuff which has to happen to make it a “law” ie an offence which carries a fine. Law writers will have been working frantically for the last few days to do this and then it will go to parliament to get approved/passed.

If they don’t do this the fine won’t mean anything and people will just appeal it

They couldn’t have had it in place in advance either as parliament wouldn’t have approved it before. People had to fuck up first for them to prove it was required!!

Divebar · 24/03/2020 22:32

There wouldn’t be time to do that. Briefing officers will take time.... in the meantime thousands and thousands of people ARE off the street and complying. That in its own will have reduced infection... every day is a bonus at this point. 20 people having a BBQ is better than 2000.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:38

I don’t think the government expected people to flood the beaches and treat social distancing and home working as a holiday.

Really? I could’ve told them that’s exactly what would happen.

There wouldn’t be time to do that. Briefing officers will take time.

No, sorry. There absolutely was time. This health crisis has been on the world news since December. The U.K. (and every other nation) should have been prepping for this since it first became known. This was as predictable as night turning to day. There absolutely was time to have the legal framework in place for the start of the lockdown.

Should have put the stupid twats on the BBQ rather than just tipping it over.
I understand that the legislation to issue the fines isn’t being passed until Thursday, so police can’t issue them until then.

Thepigeonsarecoming · 24/03/2020 22:44

I’m stepping away from this now as you seem to be keen to blame the government. It the general population who is fucking this up this time for a change. They aren’t our parents and they shouldn’t have to ground grown adults. But they’ve had to because we’ve proved we can’t in general be trusted even to save lives!

Yeafortwo · 24/03/2020 22:47

I don’t think the government expected people to flood the beaches and treat social distancing and home working as a holiday.

Well they did in Italy, Spain, Greece and Australia so not sure it's a huge surprise really.

JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:55

I’m stepping away from this now as you seem to be keen to blame the government. It the general population who is fucking this up this time for a change.

No- it’s both. The general public could never and should never have been expected to just go home and stay there until further notice without being ordered to. There are far too many stupid and too many selfish people for that ever to have been possible. Which the government should have planned for.

OP posts:
JuanSheetIsPlenty · 24/03/2020 22:57

Anyone with half a brain cell could have predicted exactly how the general public would behave given the choice.

leckford · 24/03/2020 22:59

Personally, I think if the army was allowed to shoot a couple of these low life morons the world would be a better place!

Brahumbug · 25/03/2020 05:44

The police didn't issue fines because they don't have the power to do so. The legislation hasn't been passed yet.

Accidentalaccountant · 25/03/2020 06:02

I feel so sorry for the police. They are going to be constantly exposed to the virus dealing with these idiots who won't have limited their own exposure.

eaglejulesk · 25/03/2020 06:39

We have a national state of emergency in NZ - declared today - which would have given powers to deal with such stupidity.

AlternativePerspective · 25/03/2020 06:50

What happened to taking a bit of personal responsibility?

Seriously, if the government bring in legislation too soon people will be complaining that they’re eroding our human rights. I’m starting to think some of the more totalitarian states have the right idea, given people seemingly lack the ability to think for themselves.
