Tell me what you are thankful for today

I thought it would be nice to spread some positivity. We may all be stuck in lockdown, but there is so much we have to be thankful for. Picking something each we are thankful for might help keep our spirits up.

Today I am thankful for the sunshine, it means I can get out in the garden with the LO and burn off some energy safely.

What are you thankful for and why?

Garden, sunshine, my cat sunning himself and the batch of awesome biscuits I have just made.

NotFattyBomBom · 24/03/2020 14:08

I am thankful that we no longer live in a city centre flat with no balcony or private outside space!

I’m so thankful that we have a lovely big garden and a detached garage that we are can convert into a temporary den for the teenage DS’s so I don’t have to listen to them playing online games with friends and losing badly.

I’m thankful that DH’s job will not be affected by this crisis although I would prefer he had one where he could WFH to reduce the risk of transmission (although he’d probably drive us all insane if he was at home 24/7).

I’m thankful that DD now has a secure job where she can WFH rather than the frontline supermarket job she had last year while she was at Uni.

I’m thankful that we live 3 mins walk from a supermarket in an area with lots of green spaces and have a woodland next to our house.

I’m thankful that this happened at this time of year just as the weather is getting beautiful and DH’s daffodils and tulips are blooming.

I’m thankful that I still have two packs of unopened loo roll as the DC have finally listened when I told them to use less.

I’m thankful that my family are all healthy with no underlying health conditions.

My children enjoying each other's company. They are playing basketball together at the moment (officially they doing PE on their school timetable!).

My beautiful house and garden and heated swimming pool which the pool man has just opened up for the summer.

Not having to get up at 7am every morning and do the school/ work run.

A job I love that I am able to do from home. Being able to work outside on the patio in the lovely sunshine while listening to my children laughing together.

Wearing no make up, a t-shirt and leggings and not blow drying my hair.

My fridge full of a week's worth of yummy HelloFresh meals. And 80 Costco toilet rolls in my garage (bought in January!)

My health and my children's health.

I miss my DH (who passed away at Christmas) very much, but I have a privileged life and so much to be thankful for and I am grateful every day.

sueelleker · 24/03/2020 14:42

I'm thankful that I retired in January. My husband is vulnerable, and self-isolating for 12 weeks; it would be very hard for him if he was on his own all day and every day. It also means I'll be able to pop out for shopping if necessary (although we're well stocked at present)

JaneEyre7 · 24/03/2020 14:46

We went for a long walk this morning, didn't see a soul, and sat on top of a big hill in the sunshine just watching the clouds drift past. This sunshine is a glorious welcome asset today.

Itsywitsyteenyweeny · 24/03/2020 14:48

Working for the best institution in the world (NHS) who support me and my shitty asthma to WFH and provide back-office support to my amazing front line colleagues

My 2 teens who seem to have matured overnight and are taking all this completely in their stride

My little dog, who is an absolute nutter and makes me laugh every day

The sun for still shining

My neighbour who left some toilet roll on the doorstep this morning!!

My husband who still has to go out to work, but doesn't complain when I make him strip off in the porch before I let him in the house 🙂

Thanks for this OP, its proper cheered me up 🙂

midsomermurderess · 24/03/2020 14:49

My cystitis is slightly easing off.

Sunhill4 · 24/03/2020 14:54

I am very thankful that my beautiful dog had her test results back today from a lump on her face and it's nothing serious.

Lllot5 · 24/03/2020 15:00

All my family are well. The sun is shining. I’ve just eaten a large crumpet.

bananaramadramas · 24/03/2020 15:02

I'm thankful the sun is shining

That my community is really pulling together to look after each other

That I am cooking different meals than I usually would as I am a)working from home and b) using what I can get my hands on / trying to be ultra careful not to waste anything.

I am spending more time with my family and we are making better use of our time together

That we are all healthy

I am speaking to people more (on the phone/video chat)

happypotamus · 24/03/2020 16:02

The sunshine
The garden
The first day of 'homeschooling' (I went to work yesterday so this was our first day) went reasonably well, not too many tears, no shouting from me, DD1 made the point that there are no bullies at this school
Managed to get some bread yesterday
We are all still healthy

Doobigetta · 24/03/2020 16:15

I made myself go for a run this morning when I didn’t feel like it at all, and I really enjoyed it and felt I’d achieved something.
I’d far rather eat homecooked food with my husband than crappy sandwiches at work.
I had a couple of nice chats with colleagues that reminded me that not everyone is a screeching loon and we’re all in the same boat.

PeppaPigOinkOinkOink · 24/03/2020 16:21

I love all of these! We all have so much to be thankful, sometimes we just need reminding.

My beautiful children who have enjoyed the lovely weather in our garden my Dh who is busy trying to improve the garden we have not lived here long!! Also glad we have all we need foodwise for now 😊 and we are healthy.

IdblowJonSnow · 24/03/2020 16:29

Friends
Zoom chat groups
That there are some lovely green spaces where I can walk near my house.
Kids being fairly good - still driving me mad though!
Husband has cooked a delicious smelling dinner.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 24/03/2020 16:36

My very small garden has had loads of attention and is looking amazing.
DH is WFH and is so much more chilled as a result.

Ursaminor · 24/03/2020 16:41

I am thankful for the NHS - for still being able to deal with non Corona virus work alongside the pandemic. My elderly mum has a bad chest after a cold. I phoned the surgery at 9.30, and got through to reception almost immediately. My mum got a call back from the GP by noon, and I collected her prescription from the local chemist by 3.30pm. I think that is pretty damn good.

Geraniumblue · 24/03/2020 16:45

Saw 2 peacock butterflies today. And some very cute alpacas. Grateful for a day at home (teaching assistant) back in tomorrow. Dh and I are still being paid. Glad I live somewhere I can go for a spring walk from the door. Grateful for soothing, easy books to read and a placid non-worrying husband.

mbosnz · 24/03/2020 16:54

The sunshine.
Gin.
My thumb is still whole, if only just.
The amazing young women our girls have become, so mature, level headed, self motivated and diligent.
That DH and I get on so well together.
My cat.
That hidden stash of All-Black Liquorice all-sorts that DH found and shared with me.
A well stocked pantry and fridge.
That my Mum is in NZ, relatively safe in a small quiet town located near a city with an excellent hospital.
Robins, blossom, and daffodils.
The incredibly brave, and horrendously overworked members of the NHS.
The cleaners that are doing everything they can do to keep things clean and safe.
The teachers providing work to our kids at home, and care for key workers at school.
That we all thus far seem healthy(ish)
Being able to line dry sheets again.
Our lovely friends and family in the UK
That DH's job is relatively safe.

mbosnz · 24/03/2020 16:54

Oh - and yay for technology!

Willow2017 · 24/03/2020 17:01

The lack of washing thats going to be the norm in my house!
DS2 has lived in pj bottoms for 3 days (not the same ones!) so much less than school uniform, pe kit and going out with friends clothes. Grin

Not having to get up early to make sure ds2 is ready for school and had something to eat.

Just light hearted, not ignoring all the other positives that we are not ill, I am back to work saturday (not ill just off this week) , etc etc.
