Kept so much stuff ‘just in case’ that drove me mad dreaming of my minimalist home.

But today the 9 year old played the ukulele ffs Grin and that’s just the start!

Grin

Yes!

ssd · 22/03/2020 10:40

Lol

Yes a messy house with ancient toys still around might be useful now

Onceuponatimethen · 22/03/2020 10:41

Yes!! We just dug all my oldest’s elderly toys out of the loft for youngest

RickOShay · 22/03/2020 10:42
Grin Yep
Inmyivorytower · 22/03/2020 10:43

My adult, resident children have rediscovered board games.

MissPoldark · 22/03/2020 10:43

Yes! I’ve got a pile of holey worn out t shirts that will be used as cloths.

ExpletiveDelighted · 22/03/2020 10:44

Yes, I had several bottles of hand sanitiser and liquid soap bought when on offer, lots of unread books, puzzles, board games, lots of craft stuff.

Craftycorvid · 22/03/2020 10:45

Every cloud.....Grin. Surveys cluttered house.....

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 22/03/2020 10:45

I was thinking domething similar this morning - but rather because I can now get on with the Kondoing to give me something to do Grin.

MacavityTheDentistsCat · 22/03/2020 10:46

something

squeakyheart · 22/03/2020 10:46

DH mentioned making bread in the bread maker today. You know the one we didn't use for three years that got donated last year whoops!

katmarie · 22/03/2020 10:52

Yes! I've been trying to gradually declutter with limited success, and now I have a tonne of random things to use as crafts, toys etc. Last years calendars are going to be used for art projects for example. Loads of odds and ends of wool and fabric. Dh has been rummaging through his workshop and is making me a magnet/chalkboard and a busy board to keep ds entertained as well from odds and ends he already has. I think hes quite looking forward to the projects.

MutteringDarkly · 22/03/2020 12:46

Hmm, I did Kondo and that's OK. But somehow the sausage-maker survived the cull ... when that comes out of its box, that will be my benchmark of when things have hit rock bottom.

Comfort yourself with the fact you can't buy strong flour at the moment anyway Grin

randomsabreuse · 22/03/2020 12:57

Or yeast...

littlebitwooway · 22/03/2020 13:06

Glad I never sold my exercise bike/clothes horse 😂

Walkacrossthesand · 22/03/2020 13:15

I kept loads of those little soaps you get in hotels, for use in non-hotel travelling - we have plenty of soap!

LER83 · 22/03/2020 13:39

I'm glad that everything meant for the charity shop only ever made it as far as the garage! Tonnes of old toys and books I can dig out!

PenguinsOnParade · 22/03/2020 13:40

I'm breaking out the box of colouring in stuff from the loft today. Also glad I never chucked out all the random soaps we received as gifts that I thought we would never use as they didn't match the bathroom colour scheme. Blush

CremeEggThief · 22/03/2020 13:42

No way! I'm struggling with having a bit of extra stuff, tbh. Normally I like to have just 1 or 2 of everything. It's kind of freaking me out that I have 6 cans of chopped tomatoes and a 12 pack of recycled loo roll. I'm actually serious.

Craftycorvid · 22/03/2020 13:53

Have two bags of spelt flour (that was all that was left). If the dried yeast is un-usable, spelt makes good sourdough. Now may be the time to finally crack sourdough....normal yeasted bread isn’t too hard to make without a beeadmaker.

flowerstar19 · 22/03/2020 13:55

Yes! Found some of my son's very old hydrocortisone cream on prescription for his eczema, which saved me from a horrid rash on my sore hands last night! I was thinking I was so glad I never tidied out the medicine box 🤣

happypotamus · 22/03/2020 13:55

Yes, I was never considering Marie Kondo, but I am now glad of all the things I kept 'just in case' like the shelf of half-finished pre-school children's magazines that include phonics and basic maths. Also, a few weeks ago our recycling bin disappeared from the street one day and the recycling has just been piling up in the kitchen in case it returned. Great for junk modelling etc.

I gave loads of stuff away from jan 1 to March 1st
Thankfully I’ve loads left
I won’t miss the pendelphin rabbit house, or the Beatrix potter bunnykins mugs
Lots of hand lotions went the journey..and lots stayed.
I’ve loads of soap
Clothing was too nice to be made into cloths... tops went to my dil..about 16 I think..and I’ve loads left.
I do have three fleece blankets that have never been used...they may end up as bum cloths..in napisan..if the loo roll situation doesn’t sort.

Is £7-95 for 16 ..excessive?

I must admit it was nice coming back from holiday this week and being able to put my stuff away in the wardrobes and cupboards and shut the door nice and easily.

silentpool · 22/03/2020 19:39

I am very glad that I am a failed minimalist, right now. I have good supplies of everything. God help me but I will not run out of soap until 2025, judging by all the forgotten bars I have unearthed.
