Any one else REALLY glad they never got around to the Marie Kondo method

Kept so much stuff ‘just in case’ that drove me mad dreaming of my minimalist home.

But today the 9 year old played the ukulele ffs Grin and that’s just the start!

Lots of things have been reprieved from the pre move cull. Including a huge beanbag bed ramp thing that we meant to re-home ages ago. Also some half finished puzzle books will now make the cut, unless we lose our movers in which case all bets are off as we'll take drastic action to squeeze into the biggest van we can hire. Fortunately DH is just old enough to have a 7.5 tonne limit!

I've always been a sucker for a nice-looking bar of soap in fancy packaging, and my hoarding habit collection may well come in handy in weeks to come.

Yes, I remembered a box of Milton tablets that I bought when pregnant and never used as bf worked for me. Voila, disinfectant!

My child is upper-primary btw!

We’ll be doing the opposite and decluttering these next few weeks! Far too much stuff even with just in case things. I’m looking forward to using stuff up so we can end up with a much more minimalist home by the end of it.
I was actually thinking it’s a pity we didn’t Kondo properly ages ago, as now that we’re all home the whole time, the house feels rather claustrophobic! It’s a tricky balance really, between enough stuff to keep us entertained and too much stuff to enjoy being in the house. Hopefully this will be the perfect excuse to balance it out properly.

But I've learnt to use the vertical space! So all my crap is more organized.

I tried bead weaving. In typical fashion I spent hundreds on the beads and ran out of steam. I tried selling them but no one wanted them. I then planned to donate them but didn't get around to it.
This afternoon I went online and printed loads of patterns and ordered a few more bits. Everyone will be having necklaces for Christmas.

Yes!
Have been up in the attic to retrieve excercise bike/ monopoly and scrabble/ old photograph albums, for a trip down memory lane.
Anything to help pass the time.

I'm a bit in the middle. On the one hand there are some things we hadn't used for a year (that would have been thrown out if we decluttered) that we are now using. On the other hand, I am hoping to use some time over next few weeks to declutter. At least we will know what we will never use not even when a crisis confines us to the house!

megletthesecond · 22/03/2020 20:22

Yep.

ChiaraRimini · 22/03/2020 20:39

Nope- I Kondo-ed clothes, books, and lots of crud. I am looking forward to doing a mini Kondo while we are at home, and DC using up lots of craft kits and stuff that has accumulated in the meantime.

LittleSwede · 22/03/2020 20:41

DH dug out an old (10 year??) Nintendo Wii from the loft, has kept DD very busy last three days. Also glad for some of the exercises equipment which has been gathering dust for a while...

iamaLeafontheWind · 22/03/2020 22:01

@CremeEggThief I hear you. We haven’t panic bought, but still seem to have a bit extra.

@JasperRising yes! If an item is still not used in 2020, then it needs to go. Perfect
