Carer stealing toilet roll

tulipsrus · 21/03/2020 15:30

Who does this?
Family member has Alzheimer's and we have a company that come and check on him. Just recently set up a camera for an extra check( in case he wanders)
Carer left with toilet roll under her arm
So angry

I would be phoning the care company to tell them.

SignOnTheWindow · 21/03/2020 15:32

That's appalling and so sad. Obviously this needs reporting - someone who could do that shouldn't be caring for vulnerable people Sad

Herpesfreesince03 · 21/03/2020 15:33

What are you planning on doing about it?? They wouldn’t be coming into my house again. Who tf steals toilet paper from a disabled person??!! 😡

BitchHazel · 21/03/2020 15:34

Maybe she's desparate. It's still not ok, but I'd think carefully about what steps you take next. Can you speak to her first without involving her employer?

tulipsrus · 21/03/2020 15:40

They have to write up a report so I'll see what she's written
I don't think she's one of his usual carers.

It's not like he's got loads, a pack of 4 at most

tulipsrus · 21/03/2020 15:42

Actually feel sick
He's so vulnerable

No one is ‘desperate’ for toilet paper. They could just wash instead. It’s hardly food for their children.

Allmyfavouritepeople · 21/03/2020 15:46

Honestly, how many has she taken? And how many does he have? If she's taken one out of a 40+ stash then that's different than to taking 1 in usual circumstances.

If it's just one then I would presume she was in desperate need of it seeing that she is unable to hang around the shops to buy more when it comes in because she needs to go to work. She is putting her life in danger by visiting people in their homes.

Obviously stealing from anyone let alone a disabled elderly person is wrong but she may have felt that she had no other choice.

DesLynamsMoustache · 21/03/2020 15:50

It's toilet paper. No one is 'desperate' for it. You won't die if you have to wipe your arse with reusable wipes or in the shower. Stealing it from an elderly person with dementia when they don't even have much in the first place is disgusting.

Bargebill19 · 21/03/2020 16:03

Please please report her.

Gabrielknight · 21/03/2020 16:08

Report her

SilverySurfer · 21/03/2020 16:57

Disgusting but after watching a programme on tv called Caught in the Act, I'm sadly not surprised. There are several stories about carers stealing money from vulnerable and old people. I think you're wise to set up a hidden camera. Family members did on the show when they realised money was going missing and it was shocking to watch the so called 'carers' stealing from purses and wallets and in one case a very large sum from under the mattress.

Maybe she's desparate.

Seriously? Who gives a fuck. It doesn't give her the right to steal from a vulnerable person. How low can you go?

Madcatwoman68 · 21/03/2020 17:04

Report her.
With morals like that what else would she steal?
Plenty of jobs involve risking their health but I hope they don't feel it justifies them to steal.
Out there are postal workers, shop assistants, airline staff. All mixing with the public.
I would not want someone like that in a position of trust

GrumpyHoonMain · 21/03/2020 17:07

Report her. Likelihood is she’s stealing a lot more from other people.

iklboo · 21/03/2020 17:08

Maybe she's desparate.

More desperate the elderly, disabled, vulnerable man she's supposed to be caring for?

iklboo · 21/03/2020 17:09

@Allmyfavouritepeople - OP says it was from a 4 pack

CallmeAngelina · 21/03/2020 17:10

Having relied upon (lovely) carers for my dear old dad last year, this makes me FURIOUS.
Please report her.

stayathomegardener · 21/03/2020 17:15

Report her and never allow her to care for your family again. Despicable.

Bet she keeps her job though from experience.

BlueThursday · 21/03/2020 17:28

Likely to be the thin end of the wedge so definitely report

Katinski · 21/03/2020 17:28

Report her Angry

AmputatedSoul · 21/03/2020 17:30

OP I work in the care sector, this needs reporting ASAP.

Your family member will be one of dozens of people she sees throughout the week.
You could stop the rest of them from theft if you report this. He is probably not the only one and not all of them will have family to look out for them like your family member has.

wheretoyougonow · 21/03/2020 17:30

Please raise a safeguarding with your local authority. Carers should not steal. You have proof. They need to ensure she doesn't continue having access to vulnerable adults.

Willow2017 · 21/03/2020 17:41

If she's taken one out of a 40+ stash then that's different than to taking 1 in usual circumstances

WHAT kind of "usual circumstances" is it ok.to STEAL from the person you are paid to.take care of?
Wtaf is this country coming to?

PutColinInTheCorner · 21/03/2020 17:47

Obviously stealing from anyone let alone a disabled elderly person is wrong but she may have felt that she had no other choice

Oh please. She's a carer, and she stole from a vulnerable client. I don't think I'd be able to find a violin tiny enough for her....
