Who's going to the pub tonight?

Just out of curiosity?

Again, to reiterate: I'm not. But those of you who also aren't, what is it about the pub that you are avoiding? For example if it was very quiet, and the ability to distance safely was easy, would you go then?

That's idiotic isn't it 🙄 flatout

What you are kidding? All our social things are cancelled church bingo, swimming the lot.

Samtsirch · 20/03/2020 12:50

Have stopped using pubs, coffee shops, cinema and library etc.
Have seriously cut out all socialising except for the strictly necessary ; food shop for example ( not that there’s any food left!)

inwood · 20/03/2020 12:50

@mouldyoldonkey you're going to take a 90yo to the pub? Jesus Christ.

This is why we now need lockdown.

flatoutpanic · 20/03/2020 12:56

newuser yep, I got home and immediately removed her from my Facebook (she has previous form 😂)

For me, the reasons are the social distancing rules, the use of the glass that has been touched by other people and the fact that going to the pub is not essential to me. I’m assuming I’ll get it at some point, but I’d rather not and would like to do my bit in protecting others.

Sn0tnose · 20/03/2020 12:58

Me! It’s my grandmother’s 90th so we are going to the local to celebrate. You’re not fussed about her seeing in her 91st birthday then?

Our local is still open but it’s deserted, so I’m assuming that they’re only open because they can’t claim unless they’ve been ordered to close.

WitchQueenofDarkness · 20/03/2020 13:09

Me!

I've just installed some video conferencing software so I'll be meeting my friends in our brand new virtual pub tonight. No need to let this damn virus steal all the fun from life.

NewUserNameReq · 20/03/2020 13:21

Sorry Red I hadn't seen that this had already been posted about - should make for interesting reading!

Witch brilliant idea!!

No

DoctorTwo · 20/03/2020 13:42

No. The 4 pubs I would drink in are too small to practice social distancing unless there are under 4 people in there, and I'm self isolating from the local Wetherspoon because Tim Martin is a superannuated arsehole.

skippy67 · 20/03/2020 13:45

mouldy is obviously joking...

MutteringDarkly · 20/03/2020 14:00

Virtually, yes Grin I too am going to my first ever online drinks. Tonic is in the fridge ready, planning to make myself look half-decent from the shoulders up and enjoy it from the safety of my sofa.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 20/03/2020 14:08

Those who think they are so important to the world that they will never get ill.

EarlGreyT · 20/03/2020 14:16

But those of you who also aren't, what is it about the pub that you are avoiding?
People SHOULD be avoiding it because of the the fact that it is non essential social contact.
For example if it was very quiet, and the ability to distance safely was easy, would you go then?
No and either should anyone else. It’s still a non essential social contact.

I really don’t understand what part of non essential social contact people struggle to understand. The fact that some people might want to do it does not equate with it being essential, it just makes them idiotic.

lastqueenofscotland · 20/03/2020 14:35

I LOVE the pub. But no I am not because I am not a selfish cretin

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2020 14:36

My husband is a chef and he is still going to work (just). It's all well and good people saying avoid restaurants and pubs but he relies on customers walking through the door to pay his wages. As it is all staff are down on hours as there are way less customers than usual. Unless they are told they have to close he has no option but to hope they continue to come in. I'm a SAHM so we rely on his income to survive and tbh we only just get by as it is. Believe me if he could stay at home he would but the reality is he needs to work for as long as possible. Please think about this from our point of view

happymummy12345 · 20/03/2020 14:37

The selfish people are making sure my son can still eat and we can get by

NotExactlyHappyToHelp · 20/03/2020 14:38

The pub will be coming to me! Our lovely local has branched out to deliveries so I’ll order us some dinner and maybe a couple of drinks to be left on our doorstep Smile.

Hoping to help in two ways. One keeping the local afloat and two leaving more food in the supermarkets left for others to buy.

JigsawsAreInPieces · 20/03/2020 15:04

No. I wish we could, because the pub is struggling after a string of incompetent managers and the new couple in are beginning to turn it around to be a good pub and need local support but the risks are too high.

BusySittingDown · 20/03/2020 15:09

I wish! It's such lovely weather, would have been lovely to have a walk to the local.

Instead I have some ready made cocktails and a bottle of Aldi's finest Prosecco.😁

caperplips · 20/03/2020 15:21

No way! It doesn't even feel like Friday! I've been working from home since this day last week and apart from the garden I have not set foot outside the house all week. We're really rural too. Dh has been to the supermarket twice once last Friday and again yesterday. We do not need to go out again till the middle of next week when we may need some milk from the local garage.

We have food and LOTS of alcohol so we're fine and safer there than anywhere else

tiredanddangerous · 20/03/2020 15:23

Not me because I’m not fucking stupid.

The dickheads who are still going to the pub are the reason we will end up in lockdown.
