So I've got to wfh as from today.
Due to my job role there's no way work will supply me with enough to fill 7.5 hours everyday.

Does anyone watch a cheeky box set or have a bath etc?

Have been busier than ever. Zooming here there and everywhere. Started at 8.30 am - finished at 7pm. Non stop and nothing mych constructive done. And my back aches from using my dining room chair!

Dyrne · 18/03/2020 22:33

If anyone gets bored, give me a shout - I’ve got several metric tonnes of tedious admin tasks that need doing... Wink

HunterHearstHelmsley · 18/03/2020 22:34

I watch a lot of daytime TV. Woe betide anyone who calls when Neighbours is on!

ErrolTheDragon · 18/03/2020 22:36

It may be difficult now, but I'd seriously recommend trying to get a proper office chair. Make sure your screen(s) are properly positioned as far as possible. And take breaks. It's too easy when wfh to sit for far too long in the same position. Backs and necks can really seize up - a bit of time doing some stretches and Pilates type moves can help and probably make you more productive in the long run.

SkiingIsHeaven · 18/03/2020 23:11

I normally work from home (self employed). Worked from 8 am to 10 pm today. Stopped to walk the dogs for my lunch break.

Dreading kids being off as I am drowning in work and they will need attention. It will not be fair to leave them.

Also husband may start working from home. He has very different priorities so I may end up divorced.

Really dreading it. Way too much to do.

Saying that, when I'm not busy I am quite happy to have a nap, take the dogs for an extra long walk, go to the gym or have a coffee with friends etc. That will have to be knocked on the head.

MinnieMountain · 19/03/2020 06:21

So far this week I've got up early twice to start work before DS gets up, only to discover some bastard has turned my PC off in the office and I can't log on.

So I've spent 6-8.30am cursing.

Next week will be easier as we'll have proper childcare.

boringbertha · 19/03/2020 06:28

We've been told to WFH as of Monday (university) to be honest I don't know im going to do, a few admin tasks and clearing emails but I can't see more than a couple of hours worth of work. Im in a purchasing role and guess what, no buying atm!

SuperMeerkat · 19/03/2020 06:46

I wfh once a week anyway but ft is weird. Plus my boss is a right micro-manager and we have to have these daily hour long Skype team catch up meetings. I mean WTF 🤦‍♀️ We’re all adults but it’s like she wants to check up on us and make sure we’re working, plus waste 5 hours a week on these meetings.

Spudlet · 19/03/2020 06:57

If you can make yourself a proper work station, do... I have a laptop stand and a separate keyboard and mouse so the laptop monitor is at eye level, and I try to give myself a bit of lumber support with a cushion. Makes me feel a lot more comfortable.

This is the sort of stand I use.

devildeepbluesea · 19/03/2020 07:01

I've WFH for a few years now, but I'm never overwhelmed with work. I have to show online though, so I do Super Hanjie puzzles, surf the net, do a bit of exercise, listen to audiobooks and make nice lunches / get tea in the slow cooker.

Bluewater1 · 19/03/2020 07:11

I did a wash load, some washing up, popped to the shops, walked the dog and mowed the lawn 🤪🙈now I'm going to have to work today and tomorrow (usually none working days) to make up for it 😅

Bluesheep8 · 19/03/2020 07:15

Tuesday was my first day WFH. It took me ages to follow the remote working instructions to log in to the system but once up and running, I honestly didn't stop all day apart from a lunch break. I an also taking calls regularly as normal so my working day feels exactly the same, I'm just doing all the same things but in a different place. I have to say, I'm really missing my team though and would never actively choose to WFH.

PontiacBandit · 19/03/2020 07:17

Yesterday was day 2 of with and I was in the hairdressers getting my roots and brows done before a lockdown occurs. I was still working, answering calls and sending emails but I had to leave with wet hair and get back for a conference call.
So far I've been cracking on but I've had plenty to do, this will ease off soon. DH is glad I'm home and has become very chatty...

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2020 07:19

The weird thing for me is that now everyone is wfh I'm likely to have more contact with people in the company!

EggysMom · 19/03/2020 07:22

I don't have much to fill my time WFH so I'm trying to support those who are having connectivity and system issues, our IT department is overwhelmed with queries so I help where I can.

And I'm watching Classic Coronation Street in the afternoon

Dyrne · 19/03/2020 10:21

What jobs to you all do where you don’t have much work to do? I want to work for your companies!!!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2020 11:34

I think these posters mean theres only part of their normal job they can do from home, not that they're usually dossers.

Supporting other staff in whatever way you can is excellent.

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 19/03/2020 11:36

I honestly wonder if this strange period will highlight how much wasted time there is in offices! I wfh normally but honestly, I'm working (productive, running my own business) for perhaps five hours a day. The rest of the time I'm doing household chores, cooking, reading, watching an episode or two of whatever box set I'm on. In non-isolation times I walk a lot, go for a bike ride, catch up with friends on maternity etc. It's pretty glorious and I really don't miss working for someone else (or acting like I'm busy when I'm not because there's not enough work)!

DonnaDarko · 19/03/2020 11:41

Everyone in my organisation already works remotely, it's funny to see everyone else jumping on the bandwagon!

I have to be available on the phones all day so I can't take breaks to do housework unfortunately lol.

But I always have YouTube or Netflix on otherwise it's just too damn quiet in the house. Yesterday, I was listening to a spotify playlist and dancing around between phone calls Grin

NemophilistRebel · 19/03/2020 14:15

Does anyone know what I should do in this situation ?

I am forced to work from home as i am in the thigh risk group and work part time

I have my laptop at home which is fine for me on a normal day to day basis

My boss has contacted me to start work next week on another project which requires working from a file of hard copy drawings they will be printing for me.

They have suggested I go in the office or someone brings it to me.

I’m not too sore I want to take any risk dealing with drawings handled by the people in the office who are still coming to the office by tube

Am I being over cautious?

PorridgeAgainAbney · 19/03/2020 15:48

Can they scan them and email to you?

Stompythedinosaur · 19/03/2020 15:50

Currently hiding in the bedroom as dp is in the living room and his breathing is annoying me. One of the cats miaowed all the way through a telephone meeting.

I 100% popped to the shop earlier, but I will make the time up.

CMOTDibbler · 19/03/2020 16:30

I'd ask for the file to be delivered to you, then leave it for 24 hours before touching it if you are worried - the evidence is 24 hours is long enough on cardboard/paper

ErrolTheDragon · 19/03/2020 17:35

In a warm place, I think is best.
