Currently in isolation 14 days with poorly DS. Going crazy on day 2. Let me know your favourite soothing classical music.

Can't cope with chart music, MTV, old pop, or anything with words at the moment.

I've got amazon music and am currently listening to a soothing collection called music for a relaxing bath 🤷🏻‍♀️

They are lovely but I need a playlist. Lark ascending is there, cavalliera rusticana and similar.

Any more?

Someone suggested Beethoven’s Pastoral symphony. Terrific call and Very fitting for Spring.

It was piano concerto 5 that got me hooked on Beethoven. The 2nd movement is sublime. However it’s worth listening to the entire piece for context.

Another vote for Einaudi I Giorni and Debussy Clair De Lune.

This is a bit of a marmite choice but I quite like Steve Reich's Music For 18 Musicians.

Poor you. Not a music suggestion, but have you looked on Twitter for #SongsOfComfort ? An initiative form Yo Yo Ma to share videos of music performances, to lift people's spirits during these times.

There's a #PoemsOfComfort also, as well as other things like Josh Gad (Olaf from frozen) reading children's stories. His idea was to give parents 10 mins of peace (from DC) in isolation, through story time.

Theres loads of really nice things!

PuppyMonkey · 17/03/2020 21:57

Did anyone hear Radio 4 at teatime today playing The Lark Ascending? Stopped me in my tracks, so good.

Chopin - Raindrop

AndromedaPerseus · 17/03/2020 22:13

Mozart’s horn concertos

mineofuselessinformation · 17/03/2020 22:13

Some of the film themes are lovely - Gladiator for example.
Also, the ambience music from The Hobbit or Lord of The Rings.
Have a good rummage on YouTube!
I've been playing The Hobbit stuff to my classes today as it's very soothing.

Ooh, or Swan Lake?

Or the Nutcracker Smile

Another vote for Einaudi.

However something that always cheers me up is March of the Liberty Bell by John Philip Sousa.

ElectricMartha · 17/03/2020 22:45

These are my go to calming pieces:

Miserere Mei - Allegri
2nd movement - Paderewski concerto in A minor
2nd piano concerto - Rachmaninov
Adagio in G minor - Albinoni
Eternal Source Of Light Divine - Alison Balsom and Iestyn Davies
Larghetto from Chopins piano concerto no.2
Vespers - Rachmaninov
Vocalise - Rachmaninov
Requiem - Mozart

TheNestedIf · 17/03/2020 22:47

Not Classic, exactly, but I'm going to suggest it as it would be allowed on Radio 3 - How about some Johnny Flynn (Detectorists theme composer)?

Gilead · 17/03/2020 23:41

Arboretic Part Spiegal I’m Spiegal is beautiful.

Gilead · 17/03/2020 23:41

Scala is a new modern classical radio station if you want to try that

Blobby10 · 18/03/2020 09:24

Scala radio is quite nice and soothing, as is Classic FM particularly in the afternoon [smile[

myidentitymycrisis · 18/03/2020 09:48

Mozart clarinet - pure joy

I agree with Carnival of the Animals - I particularly like the fish Smile

Ormally · 18/03/2020 12:42

You might end up with overload here, but my go-to is a Strauss piece called 'Sphaerenklaenge' (sfeerenklenger) or 'Music of the Spheres'. And most typical Viennese Strauss pieces close behind. I like the regularity of them as much as anything.
