Boring thread alert - recommend me a washer please?

Thinking I may need to get a new washer as current one playing up.

I'm in a flat so needs to be quiet so as not to bug neighbours, plus this one quite shaky and travels! Which I think is part of the problem.

Also needs to cope well with decent size loads at times, a load being washed more than once, have a rinse only cycle that's easy to use and cope well with max detergent use which again this one seems not to like.

I'm not interested in fancy gimmicks as I think that just means more can go wrong.

BekO
Around £200

lookingforbaubles · 17/03/2020 13:55

ive just bought an indesit with the quick wash button - full load in 45 minutes....ok i then do a 1400 spin but still sooooo much faster than any washing machine ive had in the past

i just use the bold gel - suitable for the 30 degree quick wash

it also does a 30 minute full load wash ....i love mine!

Graphista · 17/03/2020 14:09

I'm wary of cheap to be honest. This one is an indesit and was cheap and I'm having so much trouble with it.

Miele, they are not cheap but should last you 15-20 years? Go for the cheapest they do as you dont need all the fancy programs. Maybe you could find a good deal or someone selling one not too old?

Sparklingbrook · 17/03/2020 14:13

My friendly washing machine repair man recommends Bosch/Siemens. They may be a bit more expensive but he says they last much longer.

We have had a Bosch dishwasher since 2003 which is still going strong, we have just had a new upper tray-that's all and the washing machine for about 6 years and it's had one not v expensive repair brushes or something. It's a very well used machine too.

Fuss · 17/03/2020 14:14

I rather love my Samsung Ecobubble Add wash. Assumed Add Wash was a gimmick but find myself using it a fair bit.

Graphista · 17/03/2020 15:25

Someone else recommended Miele to me I shall have a look.

Bosch too

Afraid I've not much faith in Samsung products from past experience

I have a LG washer and it’s really quiet especially compared to my previous hotpoint one that had my head vibrating

BubblesBuddy · 17/03/2020 15:30

I have a Miele dishwasher and washing machine. Both are very solid and I expect them to last well. They do basic models. Mine has lots of options. My dishwasher is very quiet! Indesit likely to not last as long. DD has Bosch washer dryer. Ok so far but only 18 months old!

Graphista · 17/03/2020 16:17

This one isn't even 3 years old!

I hate that stuff isn't built to last any more

And where do you guys buy items like this from? I've stuck with known and trusted high st retailers so far but I think I'm turning into my parents!

I'm out of touch with current retailers and who provides good products and after sales service

I like my Samsung eco bubble

Sparklingbrook · 18/03/2020 09:35

My washing machine repair place supplies and fits which is brilliant but I have to say if I was looking now I would be checking out John Lewis (not popular on here I know).

BubblesBuddy · 18/03/2020 10:38

Go and look at Which best buys. You might have to temporarily join for £1. Look at the machines that match your needs. They don’t feature longevity but they do a price comparison so you can see where the best deals are. Often AO or similar on line store. High Street stores like John Lewis can be expensive. You often have to factor in an installation cost. And taking old machine away. You could just google the machine and model number you want and see what comes up with regard to retailers and prices.

My old Siemens lasted 20 years! I fully expect my Miele to do the same. It’s solid!

BubblesBuddy · 18/03/2020 10:40

Sometimes JL do great prices but sometimes they are way over the top. Depends on deals at the time you are looking.

Bloomburger · 18/03/2020 10:46

I love my Samsung Eco Bubble too. Large load and no problems with it.

You can get an airbag which you put in between the top of the machine and the worktop and it reduces the shaking and noise dramatically.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/03/2020 10:47

Miele.
My Miele has been in use every day for the past twelve years. Needed a new part a few months ago, has been serviced now and again, working perfectly still.

SirVixofVixHall · 18/03/2020 10:49

I did buy my Miele from John Lewis.

Alicatz66 · 18/03/2020 10:51

I just bought a Candy as a stop gap till we can afford new kitchen ... it was the cheapest one on AO !! She's lovely and I'm really pleased with her ! ... I wouldn't touch anything BEKO with a barge pole though !

Graphista · 18/03/2020 13:03

Ohh thanks for all the replies!

I signed up
I was looking at John Lewis possibly this situation has been with Currys who are bottom of the list on which? For customer service. I’d previously had good experiences with them but not this time.

Miele and Zanussi seem to be the brands recommended and they’re both in top 5 on which?

But I’m feeling paralysed on choice when it comes to a specific model.

I’m also not in a position to spend crazy money!

I do also need whoever I buy from to sort taking old machine and installing new one properly too. I’m utterly useless at practical things.

One thing I seem to be hearing from current people (although I think it may at least partly be their attempt to sell me their particular product for this and also partly to try and blame me for current issues)

They’re saying the machine needs a clean with a special product every month - nobody mentioned this to me do you all do this?

My mum has certainly not done this with her over 20 year old machine that's still going strong and has only ever needed a new door!

You can clean machine monthly with white vinegar on a hot wash

minipie · 18/03/2020 13:44

I have an LG Direct Drive which has an 11kg capacity, I love it, so many fewer loads per week. I can put all the family’s bedlinen in at once.

I don’t use a drum cleaner but I do run a regular 95 degree wash, either with the towels or empty on its “tub clean” cycle. This is to solve the issue of detergent build up.

AO.com are generally pretty good and will price match if you find it cheaper elsewhere.

ScorchioScorchio · 18/03/2020 13:48

AO are great for delivery, installation and customer service, in my experience. I won't hesitate to use them again.

Alicatz66 · 18/03/2020 14:14

Another vote for AO from me ... great customer service
