What's your favourite dessert/baked good?

I need baking/cooking inspiration because I'm currently stuck on red velvet cake Grin

My favourite desserts are panna cotta and white chocolate baked cheesecake (nicer than it sounds). As for my favourite baked goods, I can't decide, maybe just plain shortbread!

Rhubarb streusel cake. Fine on its own, also excellent with creme fraiche or single cream.

@Foghead that’s made me think of the rant one of the prison officers from Orange Is The New Black went on about the Red Velvet donut Grin

“It tastes like PlayDoh! The only good thing about it is the cream cheese frosting, which should only ever be found on carrot cake AS GOD INTENDED!!” Grin

He ain’t wrong Blush

That gingerbread cake upthread sounds amazing though!

I find brownies very meh!

I would kill for this one. Bit of a faff to make but always gorgeous. Got a toffee Apple flavour going on.

Danish pastry for me. Bonus points if its strawberry but I will devour them in all combinations!

TheWashingMachine - you would like my friend's "Naughty Pudding".

1 packet of biscuits (I use amaretti or chocolate chip cookies)
1 tin of custard
0.5 large bar of dark chocolate
1 tub Greek yoghurt (or whipped double cream)
Amaretto (or could use Bailey's/rum/anything you fancy)

Dip the biscuits in the alcohol and line a dish with them. Melt the chocolate and mix with half the tin of custard. Spoon this into the gaps between the biscuits. Leave overnight in fridge. Mix other half of custard with the Greek yoghurt and put on top. Serve with soft fruit.

A favourite nice easy pud is cherry clafoutis, 3 tins of black cherries, drained, (fresh ones in season too good to cook IMO unless ridiculously cheap), a batter of milk, flour, eggs, sugar, whack in the oven.

A lot of the recipes say to soak the cherries in Kirsch but IMO they’re much better without.

Cheesecake or choc fudge cake with ice cream

Time40 · 13/03/2020 14:43

Old-style traditional dried-fruit-stuffed wedding cake with marzipan and rock-hard icing. Although I don't expect you want to make one of those, OP!

ThePolishWombat · 13/03/2020 16:38

@Time40 totally with you on the fruit cake Grin
No one else in my house likes it. So come Christmas time, I make a whole Christmas cake just for me Blush
