Mother's Day gift ideas that are not flowers??

PleaseStopCrying · 09/03/2020 17:00

Every year I endeavour to think of unusual mothers day gift ideas as my mum like so many others hates flowers. So far so good but this year im drawing a blank and wondered if anyone could help.

Ideas in the past have been:
Chocolate covered fruit bouquet.
Framed family portrait.
Bath bombs.
Personalised keyring.
Iced cookies in assorted designs.
Pencil sketched portrait.
Jewellery.
Random stuff she's asked for but this year she cannot think of anything.

It doesn't have to be elaborate or expensive but shes been a bloody godsend recently and therefore I want to show my appreciation but I honestly have no idea what to get her.

What gifts have been a hit with your non flower loving mums, nans, mils or other fabulous women in your life. Smile

Yankee Candle? My Mum (& I) would be very happy to receive one 😊

Afternoon tea or a voucher for one somewhere?

TreatBag · 09/03/2020 17:08

I’ve bought my mum a coffee pod machine before which went down really well - still used daily. Trips out have been good too. We went on the steam train through wales one year, had lunch during the stop before coming back which was really nice.

This year I’ve bought her two plastic hare statues for the garden - only because she’s asked for them Grin

Emma Bridgwater mug
Fancy tea
Mary Berry book

Sadly she's not a candle person, I like you however would be delighted at any occasion to recieve a candle. Grin

Ill have a nosey to see if there are any good days out I could take her on but alas she also wouldn't enjoy an afternoon tea, the sandwiches are too small apparently. Confused

Plastic hare statues sound ever so intriguing, I wonder if she would notice if I put some in her garden. Grin

Any books she would like, or magazine subscription...

I love it when my daughter gets a lunch or afternoon tea voucher for 2 and it is just for her and me. I adore my grandchildren, but she is still my daughter and I really appreciate it when she celebrates the adult relationship we have in our right as well as the lovely times we have as a family. Of course we don't go out just the two of us on Mother's day or on an actual birthday but it is lovely to have this to look forward to. If she is awesome in lots of family ways she might, like me, also enjoy the rare opportunity for you to have some quality adult time together.

It is lovely that you are trying to think of thoughtful presents she might like. I am sure she will love whatever you decide. Smile

Massage vouchers have gone down a treat for me previously.

Raera · 09/03/2020 17:45

Does she like animals?
Alpaca walks are so much fun

Yesterdayforgotten · 09/03/2020 17:49

A book or perfume?

WhenTwoBecomeThree · 09/03/2020 17:50

It's my DM's first as a grandma so i've got her a bracelet with her's, mine and DD's birthstones on that descends in size order

Last year I got her a beach bag foe her hols (first holiday in years) and filled it with treats such as fave sweet, face masks, hand cream, body spray etc

Yankee candle is always a good shout or those Woodwick ones?

Jokie · 09/03/2020 17:51

A framed picture? CD of someone she likes (my mum is a massive Elvis fan so I got her an Elvis CD).

PleaseStopCrying · 09/03/2020 17:56

Sadly shes also not a book fan. I cannot ever remember seeing her reading which is impressive as all her children are avid bookworms.

Some great ideas so far and hopefully this will help others who might also be struggling. Everyone just presumes mums like flowers or chocolates when in reality i don't know any women who like receiving flowers.

Aww Blush trust me she deserves to be spoilt rotten if im even half as good a mum as she is ill feel like I've done a pretty good job.

How about pjs or a new dressing gown?

Yesterdayforgotten · 09/03/2020 17:59

Does she like home baking? Maybe you could bake her a cake or cookies or if not a voucher for afternoon tea?

Leeds2 · 09/03/2020 18:01

Could you make her an afternoon tea at home (with lots of sandwiches!)? It might be fun to do.
A tea/coffee/magazine subscription.
Lush gift box.
Cheese hamper.

SleepingIsOverrated · 09/03/2020 18:02

My mum desperately wants a bath bridge. A lovely wooden one with space for a candle, a good book and a glass of wine Smile

Ronia · 09/03/2020 18:05

Check out dontbuyherflowers.com

I'm not affiliated in any way. I just like the idea. Not cheap though

ZaZathecat · 09/03/2020 18:21

If that's you, daughter, I'd love theatre tickets! 🥰

I'm sorry to disappount you but since my mum cannot think of anything she would like and you clearly know exactly what should be brought then I'd say the odds of it being you are unlikely.

I hope you get your tickets.

Dontbuyherflowers looks good but you're right the prices seem quite dear.

Mothers day cake

user1471453601 · 09/03/2020 18:34

I've asked for a copy of Jeremy Hardy speaks volumes. It's previously unpublished work. I normally read on a kindle, but I think I'll be dipping in and out of this, so fancied a hard back.

Last year I asked for a digital remix of Curtis Mayfields music.

By February I stop buying stuff I fancy and tell the (grown up) children what id like.

Cravingcake · 09/03/2020 19:00

I made one of these Lindt chocolate ‘tree’s’ not this actual one, I stole the pic from online as real one too outing for a friend who is hard to buy for - she loved it and I’ve made them for various friends and family since.
