A name for my new baby....

I’m considering setting up a business running antenatal classes, breastfeeding support and postnatal support.

So if you were searching for antenatal classes (and your alternatives were NCT or Bump and Baby club) would you be more likely to go for

Bumps, Boobs and Babes
Baby Crew
MotherRite or Mother Right
CreateFamily

Any other suggestions are more than welcome. (I’m seriously stuck)

For context it will be a choice focused, evidenced based set of classes with the key thing being what is right for the individual be that elective c-section or home water birth and a strong focus on life after birth including perinatal mental health, managing sleep etc.

Honestly, I would find all those names pretty off putting. If I had to pick one, then Create Family is the least cringy.

I'd be far more likely to go to a group with a more straight talking name.

DameSylvieKrin · 09/03/2020 13:11

‘Boobs’ is horrible and the idea of there being a right way to mother is also offputting.
Create Family is OK.
What is the thread running through all your offerings, supporting new parents? Make that the focus of the name.

DameSylvieKrin · 09/03/2020 13:12

Although I would expect an IVF clinic from the name ‘Create Family’ so maybe not.

Thanks that’s helpful. I prefer a straightforward name too. I just can’t think of one....

The Baby Crew, latest suggestion from SIL. Is that any better?

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 09/03/2020 13:17

All the really obvious names Birth and Beyond etc are taken.

Bumps, Boobs and Babes sounds too much like Bumps and Baby

Baby Crew is cringe, sounds like you're trying to be super cool

Mother Right (not Rite) is the most professional sounding out of the lot

CreateFamily sounds like family planning/IVF

Erm, whats your background? Are you a midwife? A Nurse? A mum who thinks the info out there is pretty poor or too expensive (looking at you, NCT)?

Perhaps model the name around something personal to you?

SadThing · 09/03/2020 13:18

Mother Nurture

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/03/2020 13:19

Sorry I don’t like any of those . What about something simple like ‘ Localtown Antenatal Class’ so like ‘Brighton Antenatal Class’ ‘Derby Antenatal class’ etc . Simple , straightforward and not cringe 😬

ArriettyJones · 09/03/2020 13:19

What’s wrong with Bumps & Babes?

It’s just your first suggestion with the horrible word “boobs” removed.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/03/2020 13:19

Mother Nuture is a good one ! @SadThing

Stompythedinosaur · 09/03/2020 13:20

I think The Baby Crew sounds like a poorly placed initiative to support teenage mothers (you know, the sort that was thought up by a group of 50 year olds who've never met a teenager). Sorry.

What about using the name of where you live, or the street it will be on e.g. [Name] Baby Club or [Name] Antenatal Group?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/03/2020 13:21

ooooh - Mother Nurture!

Aquamarine1029 · 09/03/2020 13:21

Early Days

BabyDays

BrightStart

ParentSupport

crustycrab · 09/03/2020 13:34

Oh god no. None of them. Back to the drawing board.

Especially when it comes to being "right" or "boobs".

You only allowing breastfeeding mums in then?

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 09/03/2020 13:38

I’m a midwife (and a mother who had crappy birth care and really believed in choice)

Don’t want to go with X town antenatal classes because of my vision of global expansion.......

Mother Nurture is good but I’m worried it sounds too ‘Natural childbirth’ a bit Earth motherish.

I hate naming things. I wanted to call out local breastfeeding cafes ‘Boobs and Babes’ but obviously it would not have been a good idea. Went for The Milk Spot in the end and that seems to have worked but can’t come up with anything good for this.

There’s one in NYC called Stork and Cradle, I love that. Anything similar spring to mind.

Thanks for all your help. Naming it is the worst bit!

It would be right as in your right to choose but I can see it would be read as do it right which defeats the point as it’s entirely about how there is no right way.

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 09/03/2020 13:43

Other ideas I’ve been given
The Bump Bunch (maybe postnatal could be The Milk Mob)
Eve and Lilith
Parent ‘Hood

Mother Nurture taken as well Sad

Theres a blog called the Honest Midwife, maybe something along those lines.

How would you describe yourself, or what your company stands for? As in you could name your company 'The xxxxx Midwife'.

CatteStreet · 09/03/2020 13:49

Sorry to pour cold water on this, but I don't think I'd do this as a business, especially if you're not already in the field. You'd need to be liability insured to the hilt.

A blog or AN/mothers' support and discussion group with emphasis on what the evidence really says, sounds great. (An antenatal book club reading and critiquing apart all the 'advice' manuals etc would be brilliant).

CatteStreet · 09/03/2020 13:50

Oh sorry, I completeld missed you're a midwife! Blush

CatteStreet · 09/03/2020 13:56

I do think most of the ideas you've had/been given so far are either cringey or... ideological (Eve and Lilith).

The only thing I can think of really is Down to Birth (to associate with down to earth/sensible). But the cringe factor creeps in there too, plus it doesn't cover the postnatal aspect.

Four Trimesters? Covers the sort of time period you're looking at.
You said Birth and Beyond is gone, but is Beyond Birth?

Birth Sense?

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/03/2020 13:57

'The Reliable Midwife' for example

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 09/03/2020 13:58

A blog critiquing advice manuals is a great idea. Insurance should be ok. I’m a lactation consultant as well so need to look into insurance for that if I want to practice privately (I never have)

Basically I’m a long time midwife (15 years) who due to mr own experiences has PTSD which is triggered by hospitals, it’s increasingly looking like a hospital job isn’t possible for me anymore and I need to A. Make some money and B. Like doing antenatal classes and always have. I used to run the local NHS ones.

Oooooh I love Four Trimesters
