I really want to find an interesting hobby and would love some inspiration!

I’m based in London so have lots of opportunities (though expensive). I’m trying to stay physically active but never really been into team sports... I’ve recently taken up Salsa which I’m enjoying.

Any ideas? Smile

I do yoga, pilates and go to the gym, not as a hobby but as a necessity.
My hobbies are wet and needle felting, reading, crochet and dreaming of my next house renovation! These can be sole occupations but I do workshops too. As the kids get older I want to add mosaics and basket weaving which I've dabbled in the past. Workshops are good as it's hard to carve out four plus hours to do something properly at home but a workshop means you just do that activity all day with people doing the same, and you can see what everyone else is up to.

I am really boring.

My hobbies are yoga, reading and playing The Sims lol

A friend of mine is heavily into arts and crafts, though. She makes blankets, cards, ornaments and also knits and crochets!

Splitsunrise · 08/03/2020 12:32

@Pipandmum those sound interesting, thanks! Hadn’t really thought of craft activities

@DonnaDarko well if you’re boring I definitely am!

I also love the sims....I didn’t think I could count that as a hobby though Grin

You're right. I was just grasping at straws there 😂

crapette · 08/03/2020 13:41

Splitsunrise · 08/03/2020 14:32

Diy/gardening & home/garden 'design' - meets the crafting desire without the resulting clutter/tat from crafting (which was why I dropped crafty stuff).

Learning/exploring stuff - pick an activity, any activity, and dabble in it until that activity exhausts my interest. I take more joy from learning lots of different things than mastering one narrow thing. Adult education course brochures and listings of special events at local places are good for ideas. Taster sessions can lead to interesting paths.

Are there any climbing walls near you? Sociable but not a team sport.

INeedToGetHealthy · 08/03/2020 14:59

I do a form of yoga and I also am a glass artist.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/03/2020 15:07

Photography. I've been really struggling lately though with depression etc so haven't done very much with it for months but I think when the weather calms down and it's darker later and I can get out more by myself and with my family it'll pick back up again.

I go to a camera club once a week and sometimes enter the competitions there. Occasionally I even win! I'm also on some groups on facebook for photography, one specifically for females and have found them to be helpful and inspiring and have met one or two people in real life as a result of them.

At home I like to knit and occasionally sew but I'm not very good at it.

PickAChew · 08/03/2020 15:16

I love knitting though that's an on and of thing due to joint hypermobility related knackered hands. Said joint hypermobility restricts the physical activities I can comfortably or safely do but playing pokemon go with DS1 tends to get me off my arse.

bookmum08 · 08/03/2020 15:46

What did you enjoy doing when you were around the age of 12? Because I have found that everything hobby related that I do is what I enjoyed at that age (but had abandoned some due to 'growing up'). Basically I love books (reading and collecting), crafts, comics and Lego.

midgebabe · 08/03/2020 15:51

I like climbing.lots of clubs , courses and social events at various climbing walls to get you started and find buddies

Splitsunrise · 08/03/2020 16:41

Aged 12 I didn’t really have many hobbies to be honest! I was very shy and reclusive

Dressmaking. It's become a really big thing.

It's such a buzz to make something that really fits you and is unique.

Have a look at Sew Over It. It's in London somewhere (and online). It really is a great hobby. Buying fabric is a different hobby but we won't talk about that Grin

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/03/2020 17:01

I'm a runner running wanker
I like it because I don't have to talk to anyone or socialise
I can wear leggings and sweats and everyone just thinks 'oh there's bear on her way for A run' when actually I just can't be arsed to wear real clothes
I have an amazing tan all year round
I can do it with friends if I want to, but 'oh I'll hold you up' is the perfect excuse to avoid human contact
You can analyse some serious data with a free app like Strava (if you're a spreadsheet/graph kinda person)
Periodically you can enter a race, get a shiny medal, hang out with other likeminded wankers runners, and then retreat back into your cave again.

It's literally the perfect hobby for me. The only downside is the actual running bit which is hard work.

ScrapThatThen · 08/03/2020 17:15
