What do you buy a toddler for Easter?

What's the thing nowadays? In my youth we got Easter eggs off everyone but everything is a big deal these days. What do you normally do for toddlers?

We didn't let DS have chocolate until he was nearly 4. When he was 2/3 I had plastic eggs that come apart and you can put things in. I got a jigsaw and put a piece in each egg and hid them round the garden. He loved it!

I also hid small treats like figures he was collecting inside them. We do a bit of a treasure hunt now with lots of clues in the eggs, as well as chocolate ones hidden.

DustyMaiden · 07/03/2020 19:58

Easter eggs and gifts for egg hunt, very large family, if everyone bought eggs it would be a ridiculous amount.

drownininplaymobil · 07/03/2020 19:58

An Easter egg?

What else would you get them? Confused

I've bought ours a chocolate bunny with baby chocolate bunnies so we can do a mini treasure hunt around the lounge. The chocolate will be rationed over quite a while and dh and I will probably 'help' to eat it! Grin

FrancesFlute · 07/03/2020 20:00

Dislike the thought of gifts. It's a Christian celebration of new life. I have a two year old who won't be getting a present. Perhaps a small chocolate bunny.

Cacaca · 07/03/2020 20:01

Surely it’s loads of gifts under an Easter tree from the Easter bunny?

Or in the real world, an egg?!

Barbararara · 07/03/2020 20:02

Preferably nothing. Mine got ludicrous amounts of chocolate.

ThePolishWombat · 07/03/2020 20:05

I have a 4yo & a 3yo
They get a small egg each from me & DH which gets hidden in the garden. Then my mum usually gets them a cute little gift bag with little pound-shop bits in - last year they got a set of bunny ears, a little wind up chick, an Easter colouring book and some jelly sweets in the bag.

Floribundance · 07/03/2020 20:13

A small egg or a little (soft) toy bunny.

fluffiphlox · 07/03/2020 20:14

A small Easter egg. Why is this even a question?

daisypond · 07/03/2020 20:16

A very small egg. No gifts.

Tatum1234 · 07/03/2020 20:16

A small Easter egg, the same as all my other children get.

Spied · 07/03/2020 20:18

As a child some relatives bought me clothes, others bought me eggs.
Mil used to buy the DC clothes up until 7/8 when she swapped to cash ( usually £10 each). Other relatives give eggs.
I buy none as we get too many.

Teddy1970 · 07/03/2020 20:19

A small egg that's it, I'm sick of retailers and some relatives of mine trying to make Easter a second Christmas, it's getting bloody ridiculous.

GrumpyHoonMain · 07/03/2020 20:19

A soft toy

buckeejit · 07/03/2020 20:23

We don't get our dc anything I think. Or a small egg. Other people buy them eggs. They are most excited about the egg hunt I the garden. I'm planning on buying wooden eggs for them to decorate & hope we don't get too much chocolate this year as it hangs about for ages. We still have Halloween & Christmas chocolate!

CuteOrangeElephant · 07/03/2020 20:28

I bought my 2 year old DD a small pack of chocolate eggs so that we can do an egg hunt and a small wooden rabbit. Wooden rabbit is the first of our Easter decorations and will be put away til next year after a while.

I find this hyper commercialisation of everything quite galling to be honest. Unfortunately she will get a load of tat and chocolate from the in-laws!

Sinatra1234 · 07/03/2020 20:30

I made eggs with craft foam glued around to look like flowers. All from dollar store. I'll "hide" them. It'll be a fun game for a 23 month old. Let family gift him. Easter is for grandma and aunties to spoil.

Winter2019 · 07/03/2020 20:31

Chocolates, maybe a wee toy

Winter2019 · 07/03/2020 20:32

My dd will be nearly 4 this Easter and will be getting a puzzle and some chocolate eggs

crystal1717 · 07/03/2020 20:32

Easter eggs.
And an Easter egg hunt around the lounge (or garden if you're brave). Use plastic eggs for the hunt if you must but most people use chocolate eggs.
They are only young for a little while.

Also lots of Easter crafts and easter bonnets. See hobbicraft. Just straw hat with stickers put on. This can be done from 18 months with supervision. It's a nursery activity.

Easter is a celebration of spring and rebirth with chicks and lambs etc.
People visit farms or parks with flowers.

Some people use it as a time to buy outdoor toys inc scooters / playtents / sand pit / trampolines. If you're going to buy them for the summer anyway it's nicer to present them at Easter.

I prefer it to Xmas by quite a long way.

Most people have roast dinner with family. And dress up kids. Floral dresses for girls. Anything smartish for boys.

Most children get 8 to 10 Easter eggs from extended family, childminders, family friends etc. Don't let them eat them all on one day.

Thisismytimetoshine · 07/03/2020 20:34

Still Easter Eggs Confused

crystal1717 · 07/03/2020 20:39

A lot of people on this thread are very miserable about Easter. Do you also not do Christmas because that is a christian celebration of birth?
Easter has always been celebrated and is not particularly christian. I am a christian and my church only just accepts the egg thing.
Eggs rebirth chicks lambs flowers baby animals bit is all pagan and predates Christianity by millennia. It's an ancient celebration to celebrate the end of winter and regrowth of the world. Blossom trees etc. It's not new or capitalist.

BertieBotts · 07/03/2020 20:45

Confused Presents aren't a thing at Easter.

Toddlers get a small token chocolate, maybe a small egg. Children get a chocolate egg. That's it!

Emmacb82 · 07/03/2020 20:46

We do a little hunt in the garden with some small eggs, and then get him a slightly bigger egg or chocolate bunny. Always end up getting too many eggs from other people so of course we have to help him eat them 🤷🏼‍♀️
