Clothes for larger lady

Holymolymackerel · 07/03/2020 18:44

I am 24 to 26 size and 43 years old.

I currently shop at Yours, Simply Be, JD Williams, Evans etc but I'm fed up with the quality, things tend to shrink, lose shape, fade etc and some of the designs or colours are a bit too brash.

Where do larger women buy clothes please?

I used to buy stuff at Debenhams asda Tesco Sainsbury's and next also like new look but it's really hard to buy decent clothes in bigger sizes x

sorryiasked · 07/03/2020 18:48

Have you tried curvissa?

Butterflystar76 · 07/03/2020 18:49

I really recommend Dorothy Perkins curve, have got some lovely dresses from there and they are great value and wash well.
Also Lady Voluptuous dresses, very flattering...
And snag tights.....

What sort of things do you like, and what is your style/budget? Have a look on the John Lewis website - loads on there, nothing in store, ditto Debenhams. More expensive, have a look at Beige.

Peasfox · 07/03/2020 18:51

Oasis!

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/03/2020 19:01

Studio 8, Live Unlimited, Junarose, Oasis Curves, Marina Rinaldi, Yumi Curve, Persona, Chi Chi London, Ralph Lauren, Levi’s...Chesca...

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/03/2020 19:02

These are all in size 26 - even more choice in size 24, but everything here from jeans and jumpers to ball gowns!

MrsSchadenfreude · 07/03/2020 19:03

How tall are you?

Cherrysoup · 07/03/2020 19:21

Pretty Little Thing. Check trouser length: I’m tall so like their extra long trousers, but they do come in a variety of lengths.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/03/2020 19:25

Seasalt

ALongHardWinter · 07/03/2020 19:32

Am watching this thread with interest as I'm a larger lady too (size 20/22). Was going to recommend Yours Clothing, but see you've stated that you already get stuff from them. I've had some really nice knitwear from them.
I'm just waiting for some bright spark to come along and suggest that you 'lose weight if you want more choice in clothes'. 😡 Yes,I've had this suggestion put to me a couple of times.

Namechangexyz1 · 07/03/2020 19:44

I think GAP might go up to a 20.

My friend swears by supermarket clothes and she always looks very stylish

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 07/03/2020 19:52

I buy at Next (online only, shops stop at size 22), ASDA and Sainsbury’s. Sometimes I strike lucky at Simply Be.

Ilovethekitties · 07/03/2020 19:53

ASOS curve

Holymolymackerel · 07/03/2020 20:21

I'm 5 ft 6 ins. I'll have a look at these, seems there's more choice than I thought.

Thanks

Yes to Seasalt, Sainsbury’s and Next! Try Snag tights - their 80 denier ones last forever.

I often order a lot of stuff on click and collect at John Lewis or Debenhams, try it on in the fitting room and return anything that doesn’t fit then and there. It’s perfectly possible to look nice, whatever your size. Also, a good bra can give you more shape and the illusion (in my case!) of a waist.

aibutohavethisusername · 07/03/2020 20:56

Yumi have just starting doing plus size.

leghairdontcare · 07/03/2020 21:02

I'm a size 24 and 37. I like ASOS curve and recently bought some nice work wear from Violetta (plus sized mango).

Next sometimes have good stuff but the sizing and quality at inconsistent so I return a lot.

Papergirl1968 · 07/03/2020 21:08

The New Look and Matalan curve ranges are worth a look too, and I second the recommendation from a pp for Dorothy Perkins.
A few of us larger ladies are in a Facebook group. Do come and join us.

Papergirl1968 · 07/03/2020 21:09

The Facebook group is called plus size: what are you wearing today

JemimaTab · 07/03/2020 22:23

Navabi are good - they are online and have lots of different labels. Good quality but a little more expensive maybe. Definitely worth a look!

PumpkinP · 08/03/2020 01:54

Boohoo

Papergirl1968 · 09/03/2020 22:27

Joanna Hope at J D Williams is good for special occasions - weddings etc.

OtherVoicesOtherRooms · 10/03/2020 09:15

Seasalt definitely! ❤️

sonjadog · 10/03/2020 09:24

Navabi (online) do nice things for plus sizes. They are a bit expensive but they do good sales regularly. I find they do a bit more interesting clothes than I can find on the high street.
