You check the washing label before you buy an item of clothing

You successfully handle your first cardiac arrest since graduating medical school. And realise you have 36 years of high stress long hours in operating theatres still to come...
You look back at having raised your DC single handedly from babyhood since DH died and realise that you did a better job than your own abusive parents.

You deal with an arsonist setting your house on fire while you are asleep inside, without panicking.
Being grown up is not all it’s cracked up to be!

You get excited that there's a new pomegranate dettol floor cleaner rather than their usual one!

It smells amazing and I love it!

StripeyDeckchair · 07/03/2020 09:16

When you no longer have stuff "for best" or saved for a "special occasion" but use them every day because you can & you're worth it.

(Although if OH uses my lovely shower gel again instead of his......) Smile

I'm loving this thread because I am 50, but I agree it's drifted from the original question Grin

I realised I was Properly Grown Up (as opposed to the three previous points in my life I'd decided that now I was grown up) when I found myself fancying someone over 40. Up until then middle-aged people had always been in the "he'd have been lovely when he was younger" bracket, but this one was actually having an Effect.

I was 29 at the time.

You're sure you'll break a leg going down a waterslide

Time40 And that asks the bigger question - at what age do you really grow up?

Umm .... judging by this thread, in my case ... never [grin}

Hirsutefirs · 09/03/2020 22:19

When your children look middle aged.

BlythesEyes · 09/03/2020 22:24

You get a new cut and blow dry and you're not going out to 'use' it that night 🤣

ceramichedgehog · 09/03/2020 22:26

Sat in work on a bright breezy day thinking how well the washing would dry.

Itstheprinciple · 09/03/2020 22:29

When you spend your lunch half hour liaising with tradespeople regarding having the outside of your house repainted.

HerRoyalCarbyLess · 09/03/2020 22:30

Turns out I'm not yet a grown up Grin
Yay me!

FNuts · 09/03/2020 22:50

When you start telling stories about when you were your child's age

When you get genuinely excited about DIY

When you cant recognise any current chart music, and you realise that it's all shot anyway and put on the stuff you listened to when growing up

turnandfacethenamechange · 09/03/2020 22:52

You feel obliged to point out when it's "good drying weather"

YourVagesty · 09/03/2020 23:05

You use the 'good soap' and burn the 'fancy candles', just because.

And you'd rather spend extra to have an evening in an amazing hotel, rather than just finding the cheapest Travelodge type place possible.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 09/03/2020 23:24

I considered growing up when I first held DGS, but the feeling passed after a minute or two.

Probably the most grown up thing I've done was give my GCS to the mountain rescue doctor, along with my body weight for initial morphine. I suggested 10mg, he countered with 5. Possibly not that grown up.
