DH was away for work this week and mentioned he'd been to Tesco for a few bits. Just in case. It was still in the boot last night.

Fast forward to today. I said I'd like to pop to Costco to get some belly pork strips and we were running low on bog roll.
I nip to the loo and come back to a trolley full of cleaning stuff, kitchen roll and water.

Then had a little nap when we got home (medical issues exhausting me atm). DH unloaded the car.

Photos attached with what I woke up to. 'Scuse kitchen mess.

@AtAt123 I didn't mean your amount of loo roll. I meant the OP's. That why I put your name underneath the first paragraph of my post.

I too buy those Nicky loo rolls (they are brilliant and cheap) and always buy 2 packs. I didn't realise that 3 are so cheap in Farm Foods so may buy them there in future. We buy them from Home Bargains.

I don't get why people buy packs of only 4 loo roll. Even if they have little money those packs work out much dearer. As you said, the Nicky ones are around £4 for 18 rolls. They are as good, if not better, than the expensive makes

@gypsywster

I really don't understand why me buying in bulk, and regularly, is such a contentious issue for you. You really need to get a a life

And some loo rolls Grin

The empty shelves photos are revealing. Even in a panic situation, nobody wants the Cushelle. The supermarket can learn something from this I think.

I've just come back from Tesco and the toilet roll shelves were quite empty but there were large packets of Cushelle and Andrex and a few 9 packs of Tesco owned.

TSSDNCOP · 08/03/2020 12:57

Our Waitrose were low on loo roll, but were putting more out. There was loads of everything else including medicine. No hand san buy that’s all being flogged on e-bay.

KatherineJaneway · 08/03/2020 14:25

Sign up at the pharmacy counter was ‘no face masks, no hand sanitiser’. Cashier on the checkout sais they get some in (hand sanitiser) but it sells immediately

MissPoldark · 08/03/2020 14:36

All normal in the co-op except for paracetamol.

isseywith4vampirecats · 08/03/2020 15:42

just been shopping at our local aldi normal shop for me which is usually monthly and aldi looked exactly the same as it always does here except for the empty loo roll pallet there was one big pack of loo rolls which I bought as I would normally buy this size pack and quite a few of the medium sized packs plenty of pain killers medicines etc I don't know about hand gel as I never buy it so don't look for it I use soap instead always have done

I just edited an ocado slot for tomorrow - next available slot not until next week, usually I can always get one next day. They were completely sold out of loo roll, pasta, rice, baked beans and UHT milk.

I lived through the sugar shortage in the early 70's. It was crazy-people fighting over bags of sugar, and tearing bags and spilling it everywhere.

BruceAndNosh · 08/03/2020 19:59

What's wrong with Cushelle toilet paper that no one wants to buy it?

FrenchyQ · 08/03/2020 20:28

We haven't panic bought, we are just prepared. It amazed me looking at other peoples trollies at some of the things people stockpile. We only bought extra of things that we normally buy. One bonus of my husband being a coeliac is that hardly anyone had touched the gluten free section!
Still in search of loo roll tho, our Tesco had none again today, not even cushelle (which we cant use anyway as it blocks our toilet).

We bought 2 packs of water from Costco...the reasoning being that if there was an issue with the water supply, would there be anyone available to come and fix it if the country was on lockdown.

loveliesbleeding1 · 08/03/2020 20:47

BruceandNosh It always blocks my toilets up, I don’t know if others have the same problem.

lachy · 08/03/2020 21:50

DH is going to Costco tomorrow. We go once every 3months or so and buy washing powder, fabric softener, dishwasher tabs, etc. We usually also buy toilet roll and a big cake other bits and pieces. We're not panicking buying, its just what we normally buy there.

Most stuff in Costco is in huge packs - it's the whole point of the place.

sueelleker · 09/03/2020 09:18

not even cushelle (which we cant use anyway as it blocks our toilet).
We had the same problem with Andrex quilted.
