I have to quit my job. What do I do?

I started a new job in a dementia facility after many years being a Sahm 8 weeks ago. This is my second thread about this (sorry, I don't want to admit to anyone irl that I'm struggling so much)

The first two weeks were OK but things have been going downhill ever since.
I was attacked (again) at work last night and I genuinely cannot cope anymore. I'm covered in bruises/scratches this morning and been up crying most of the night. I have an interview lined up for a smaller facility with better management and less dementia patients.

I'm just exhausted, burnt out and my anxiety has reached new levels. I feel a lot of shame as my long term goal had been to be a mental health nurse (not anymore) but it's time to admit I am not cut out for this job. All of the bodily fluids etc don't phase me, but the constant verbal and physical assault has reduced me to a nervous wreck and honestly, I'm heading for a breakdown.

The idea of going back in today is causing genuine panic but I have a 4 week notice period, I'm on my probationary period and may need some sort of reference for a job in the future.

I don't know what to do. Any advice would be appreciated. I don't know what the consequences would be for just quitting but I can't keep doing this anymore Sad.

Staff turnover is so high, I can't imagine they enforce the notice period too rigorously.
I've looked and you can leave any time until you've been there six weeks. After that you have to give a full month's notice Sad.

Dementia care is very hard. I did it and on my first day I was kicked, scratched and hit. Within my first week I was bitten and spat at as well with no support from the employer - they told me that I 'had to learn to work with that patient' and that she 'didn't like strong women'.
If you are still on probation I'd doubt that you have to work a month's notice despite what it says. It might be worth ringing acas?

Please do not worry about the smaller care home thinking badly of you leaving after a short time/not completing your notice. They're probably cherry picking their staff from the cast outs of the big place, and know the management/training etc is sadly very lacking.

It says on my work contract that I have to give a month's notice if I've worked there longer than 4 weeks. I signed that contract (stupidly).
Im going to just try to be completely honest with the smaller home and hope for the best.

And please don't get signed off sick, that's a very very childish way to deal with an adult situation. I pity the employers of the people here telling you to Give your notice in immediately and ask how much holiday you've accrued.

Well I was one them people and I'm still one of them.

What a helpful input Hmm. I bet you're one of them people who drags themselves in with flu to infect everyone else. Can you explain what is childish? Did you read the OP? You can clearly tell this 'adult' problem is effecting the OPs health, therefore going to the GP and telling them the situation would result in the OP being signed off sick. This isn't a case of the OP deciding she suddenly doesn't want to go to work anymore there are real issues here.

I would be calling in sick after assault.
Sign yourself off for a week self cert then go back to doc and sign off again - I’d also when speaking to your manager regarding your sickness, explain to them , telling them you wish to leave , they may terminate your contract anyway.
What’s the worse that can happen? They don’t pay you and you leave, you were going to do that anyway. They cannot give you a bad reference, they can refuse reference or minimal detail. If you have a job lined up it’s fine.
