Just eaten chocolate with mould on it. Am I going to die?

I didn't look at my chocolate bar until I had had a couple of squares, and then I found it was mouldy.

Just to be clear, this is not the white 'bloom' that chocolate gets on it, but actual green and white mould, both spotty and like a spider's web.

Can't find much online. Tell me straight, O Mumsnet: am I going to get ill? Because that would be very bad right now.

One way to find out.

ch3rrycola · 04/03/2020 14:19

Think you'll be fine. Might just feel a bit sick.

LadyPeterWimsey · 04/03/2020 14:22

Aaarrggh! I'm away from home and travelling back tomorrow and really can not afford to be sick.

I cant see any mould. Is it bloom? If it is, then it's absolutely fine to eat it.

Geoffreythecat · 04/03/2020 14:26

Oh god, sorry , just realised I missed the whole middle paragraph of your OP out Blush

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 14:28

I've never seen mouldy chocolate.

T'internet says chocolate can't go mouldy... But it looks pretty mouldy to me. Chances are you didn't eat any of the nasty stuff as you really would have noticed.

wedding33 · 04/03/2020 14:28

My gran used to feed us bread with mould on it regularly ! - none of us ever got sick

BigFatLiar · 04/03/2020 14:30

Depends how old you are. But certainly in the next 50/60 years you're likely to die.

If you're otherwise healthy you'll probably be ok.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 14:30

Sorry op (please look away).

SHE ATE SPIDER WEB!

LadyPeterWimsey · 04/03/2020 14:32

I thought it was spider web for a moment, but it has the green spotty mould on it too. Sad

Where are all the microbiologists when you need them? Surely this is more important than Coronavirus...

I opened the bar while reading a thread, and only noticed the taste on the second square, and then looked down...

Yuck.

If it helps I once ate a full half of a (large) mouldy chocolate muffin before I noticed and I was totally fine Smile

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 04/03/2020 14:37

It's not just a spiderweb... It's a mouldy spiderweb.

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 14:40

I'm sure it will be fine (and I'm sorry I am being a meany and finding it funny). I am sure I've eaten worse.

We once went out to eat in town and took my sisters who were visiting. The 'nice' restaurant we carefully chose was featured on one of those 'you'd need to be mad to eat here' tv exposes a couple of weeks later. Rats, rubbish, dirty kitchen, unhygenic staff...

Bluntness100 · 04/03/2020 14:42

Yeah I can see it, makes me feel a bit queasy. Chocolate should not get mould but that clearly has and, green mould can be or usually is toxic.

2beautifulbabs · 04/03/2020 14:46

Ohh bless I agree with other pp op you'll be fine you only ate a small amount and I'm sure we have all unexpectedly eaten something bad and been fine without knowing about it

I've partly eaten mouldy bread before until I noticed it after a few bites it happens

ThunderPython · 04/03/2020 14:46

I think you're definitely going to die.

At least you missed getting struck down BY coronavirus though. Every cloud.

(i doubt mould on chocolate would make you anything other than a bit unsettled, maybe some loose stools, especially as you've eaten such a small amount)

EmpressSuiko · 04/03/2020 14:49

You’ll be fine, if you have a very sensitive stomach you might feel a bit iffy later but I would say most people would be perfectly fine with no ill effects.

AnotherMurkyDay · 04/03/2020 15:00

I've made some errors with bread and things quite a few times. Never even made me sick. I do try my best not to eat it just in case but so far no horror stories

TheDogsMother · 04/03/2020 15:01

How on earth did the chocolate actually last long enough to get mouldy ?

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 15:05

Its never happened in out house.

Cinderemma · 04/03/2020 15:06

You might feel iffy later like others have said.

What chocolate bar is that though? Chocolate shouldn't be mouldy. Is it out of date? I'd be emailing them and complaining 😂

Tiredmum100 · 04/03/2020 15:06

I ate a butter crumpet with mould on it once (it was on the butter). Noticed about the second bite, luckily I was absolutely fine. Although felt a bit 🤢 at the thought!

pelirocco123 · 04/03/2020 15:08

Isnt penicillin mould
Im always biting into mouldy bread ..not on purpose i hasten to add ,never made me ill

Lordfrontpaw · 04/03/2020 15:12

I think you need to drink some gin to kill the germs. I could be wrong but it's worth a try.
