I'm just sad. My eldest is almost 15 now, 3 younger siblings

We live in a TINY terrace house.

3 boys in 1 room. My daughter who is 13 in the box rooom

There's no room for desks to do homework. No room for chairs

They just sit in their beds

My living room and kitchen are tiny. No room for tables there either.

I would sleep downstairs and give them. My room but I have fibromyaligia amongst other things and I couldn't bear sleeping in the couch or a pull out

Which makes me guilty

I'm in a HA property and have been on the exchange list for 4 years with not one enquiry so I can't move.

I'm just sad.

My only hope is a lottery win and let's face it. That's not going to happen.

I just want my babies to have a happy life.

When my youngest was born 9 years ago everything was so different. We had plans to move. Had money. He left. I got sick

I feel like a shit mum

I see kids sat at desks with laptops in lovely rooms and I feel like a failure. I can't even give them that

Don't feel guilty for them using the bed to study. I had the option of a bed or a table etc to study on but every time out of comfort, I picked the bed. I had very tatty A-level second hand books and studied on my bed all the way through GCSE, A-levels and university and achieved straight A's so it really won't be an issue if they put the work in. Plus, there's the option to study at library, after school clubs and at uni, most people study in social spaces and the uni library all the time anyway. Also, coffee shops, parks, etc. can be good too.

You clearly care so much and you sound like a wonderful mum!
When I work from home I always sit on the bed- we have a study area with a desk in our room, and there’s the dining table but I just find the bed more comfortable. Always have done, even when I was younger and at school. I did have a desk in my room growing up (only child) but only used it for doing make up. My best friend shared a tiny room with her sister and got into Oxford.
Your kids are loved, and they are lucky to have you.

I imagine it’s very difficult for them. What about over the bed tables so that they can work a bit more comfortably. Do you have somewhere you can sit and eat your meals. Round the dinner table homework sessions are an idea.

When sharing space they need to be as clutter free as possible... a nice big clear out might help.

Ahhh, I am sure your children think you’re an amazing Mum and enjoy their lives.

The only thing you could change easily and cheaply is a table for homework. Could you buy a second hand drop leaf table? They take minimal space and only need to be out when being used?

Focus on what you can change easily and what will have the biggest impact. Don’t focus on factors out of your control.

As a child who grew up in a tiny house, I never noticed. I did homework on the floor and never had a desk. I also ate with a tray whilst sat on the sofa. I am a normal human, have table manners and gratitude for everything in my life. Humble begins ensure I never take anything for granted. All children need is food and a loving parent. Don’t sweat the small stuff, they’ll think it’s unimportant!

I can't afford for my kids not to share just now. I worry about it and I don't. Dd2 hates being alone and likes having dd1 above her. The girls are very close. I look enviously at their relationship and wish I had a sister. We have a great quality of life in other ways. My kids do very well at school. It's not harming them!

Yes, look at Pinterest for ideas for splitting rooms and storage. Fold away desks etc.

We had an ecoloft put in our roof. It was 7k. Pull down ladder, strengthen the floor, velux windows, plastering and painting, lighting. It will be a study/playroom.
