What MPG do you get in your car?

I actually don't think I've seen this thread before and I'm pretty obsessed by mine as it's way worse than I expected!!

I drive a 15 plate Renault Captur petrol and only get 33-35mpg on a bog standard tank, so some motorway, some distance, majority in town.

What car do you drive and what MPG do you generally get??

OP posts:

Kia Picanto 1.1 I get 52.6mpg
Seen a few other kias on this thread with decent mpg to. Definitely not a brand people often consider but would highly recommend for mpg etc.

I don’t know about OP, but FireUnderpants you’ve certainly cheered me up! Grin

The worst I've ever been in was my dad's old 1949 Buick Roadmaster, bought as a jalopy in Hong Kong in 1964. 8 mpg, but as there was nowhere to go...

07 plate Volvo xc60 AWD. Around 25 on our rural roads but 35 on the motorway.

MondeoFan · 03/03/2020 16:53

I've just got rid of a Ford Mondeo Petrol 2.0 I was getting 24-28 MPG
Now have Ford Mondeo Diesel 2.0 and now averaging 50 MPG

I'm so pleased as double the fuel economy

FireUnderpants · 03/03/2020 16:59

@Plainandsimple the road tax is £50 a month too.

I will be getting a new car thanks to London emission zones, or I'll be paying £11 a day on top soon.

PontiacBandit · 03/03/2020 17:02

We've had our hybrid for a week and are getting 50-55mpg but expecting that to go up as I try to get it in electric mode more often. We filled the tank yesterday for £42 and it shows 557miles to refill so it will definitely save us ££ compared to our last car.

SansaClegane · 03/03/2020 17:04

You all know that the board computer overestimates, right?

I use an app called 'Road Trip' which works out the actual mpg when you fill up. My average is ~48mpg, but there's a big difference from summer to winter (50+ in the summer, low 40s in winter).

Ancient 06 Toyota RAV4, I adore it.
Like driving a 4WD sofa Grin
I work rurally in Northumberland (adverse weather quite often) and live in a town with far too many traffic lights so I get 32mpg on average. Having said that, on a trip to York down the A1 I got 56mpg which I was impressed at.
I didn't buy my beloved Rav for its fuel economy, I bought it because I've wanted one since I was on holiday in 1997 and had one as a hire car!

myusernamewastakenbyme · 03/03/2020 17:31

2009 new shape Fiesta....41.8 mpg.....seems really poor to me...im already thinking of changing it and I only bought it in November.

HoppyHop · 03/03/2020 17:59

18 plate 1.6 diesel. 45mpg. Mainly kid taxi-ing around town.

plominoagain · 03/03/2020 19:45

Yaris Hybrid , long commute on a roads and mways Rural when at home . About £35 to a tank and get about 400 miles out of that . Tells me it's about 57 mpg most of the time .

DaveMinion · 03/03/2020 20:24

2l Alfa Romeo giulietta diesel and I get around 60mpg combined. Plus only £30 a year road tax. Bargain.

latheritup · 03/03/2020 20:30

Micra N-Sport 50mpg

Those figures sound about right to me, for the type of driving you are doing and for that size car with a petrol engine. I think it's very rare anyone achieves the actual combined mpg that manufacturers quote. But it does work well to use the figure as a guide comparing economy across different models I think.

I get about 21mpg but it's a fast and sporty car and I didn't buy it for fuel economy, but because I love it. And I only do about 2000 miles a year anyway, and we can afford it fortunately.

If you love the car and can afford the fuel costs then maybe it doesn't matter. But if it's really bothering you then maybe look at changing?
