What MPG do you get in your car?

I actually don't think I've seen this thread before and I'm pretty obsessed by mine as it's way worse than I expected!!

I drive a 15 plate Renault Captur petrol and only get 33-35mpg on a bog standard tank, so some motorway, some distance, majority in town.

What car do you drive and what MPG do you generally get??

Mini Cooper - currently on 38, down from 43

oakthorn · 02/03/2020 21:03

19 plate 3l v6 VW Amarok. Averages 33.6. Mix of rural and motorway

Charlesthekingcavalier · 02/03/2020 21:12

2017 fiesta. 40-41. I can’t get it above that no matter what but I do drive it quite hard and never put it in eco mode as it’s boring.

I used to have a 65 plate Fiesta and it was so economical! I now have a Volvo car but it has a Eco gauge if I stay within the boundaries when I drive economically it gives me a big well done tick on the dash. But it’s still not as economical as that Fiesta.

Flummingbird · 02/03/2020 21:23

This all makes me almost want to cry. Mine is so crap! It's a 0.9L but I was really hoping for better. Might end up changing a lot sooner than I had planned...

Round town I get 230 miles for 25 quid. It's not empty then, it's still got two bars left.

SciFiScream · 02/03/2020 21:32

Wow some great MPGs here. We've got an 11 plate 1.2 litre Škoda Yeti. It records two types of MPG. The trip and all time average. Sometimes I can get the trip MPG up to 45/50 mpg. The all time trip average is about 35-37 mpg. Not great.

I get better MPG than my DH.

Mostly town driving. Some A roads with a speed limit of 70 but always gridlocked. We combine trips and reduce the use but still quite dependent on car sadly.

dun1urkin · 02/03/2020 21:32

14plate 1.6 diesel fiesta
60 mpg mixture of motorway and city driving
Got 80mpg out of it on a 250 mile motorway journey a couple of years ago. I was so pleased I took a photo n

Plainandsimple · 02/03/2020 21:32

Just to cheer you up OP, mine is a 2005 Honda CR-V 2l petrol automatic, most of my journeys are urban, a good week I can get 25mpg Grin A full tank - £60ish - will do 250ish miles, which is about 7-10 days for me. It’s a tank, but I love it so!

pastaparadise · 02/03/2020 23:27

Toyota auris hybrid- 65ish on commute (20 mins traffic jam then 25 mins motorway). 55 ish for regular town journeys or rural roads. Love the downhill journey to dds nursery as it's almost all electric so comes out as 99 (max!)

Icanflyhigh · 02/03/2020 23:50

55-60mpg 2.0TDi Sport VW Touran

70 quid to fill the tank and approx 1000 miles per tank.
I love it!

CormoranStrike · 03/03/2020 06:29

Ds3 cabrio diesel and between 50 and 65mpg depending on the driving route.

TowerRingInferno · 03/03/2020 06:33

Volvo 45 mpg.
Most of my driving on flat 60mph roads.
It is a diesel though.

SimonJT · 03/03/2020 06:34

Civic Type R

It should get around 33mpg combined, I don’t drive a huge amount and I’m a gassy driver as I accelerate quickly to the appropriate speed. I’m getting around 26mpg, it’s a new car (last one stolen ☹️), when it’s settled (over 1000m) I expect it to improve to around 28mpgish.

Oldraver · 03/03/2020 08:00

Photosypmpasis.

We have a 66 plate Fiesta ST , I'm sure I've been told we get 38 mpg from it

ShatnersWig · 03/03/2020 08:36

Peugeot 107, petrol. Never less than 55 mpg.

Twospaniels · 03/03/2020 08:41

17 plate diesel Merc C class 250D

General about town with two 80mile motorway trips a week, I get about 44mpg

amazedmummy · 03/03/2020 08:55

Depending on where I'm going I get 44-55 from my Sportage. What car do you have OP? I had a 0.9L car and the MPG was good.

BarbaraofSeville · 03/03/2020 09:14

I've heard that you can often get poor MPG from small engined cars because the driver is often pushing it to get it up hills, accelerate onto a motorway, or overtake. Don't know how true this is.

I CBA working out my MPG but what I always do is reset the trip meter when I fill up (I nearly always just fill the car to the top within a few miles of the red light coming on and it varies hugely from twice in one day to every couple of weeks depending on what I'm doing) and I see how many miles I got from the last tank and quickly work out what it cost me per mile.

The last tank got only 300 miles and it cost about £45 so 15 pence per mile, which was all short traffic heavy journeys, but I can get as much as 450 miles from a tank so about 10 pence per mile if I've done a long motorway journey.

This is more meaningful to me as it's a company car and I get 12 pence per mile for fuel (HMRC standard for fuel only for company cars of my engine size - 1 litre petrol) so I like to know whether the money I can claim from work covers the cost of the fuel I have bought, and it usually does because I visit clients all over the UK, so mostly a decent motorway run away.

undercoveraessedai · 03/03/2020 09:16

1.6 Auris, 34-40 usually. Lots of small trafficy journeys though.

raspberryk · 03/03/2020 11:44

It's hardly surprising with a medium sized car with a tiny petrol engine which would be better placed in a very small car.

I drive a 2004 BMW 320D Auto and get 32-35 mpg depending on how and where I drive but that's usually a mix of dual carriageway, rural and town driving. A bit better if I'm doing motorway only.

Flummingbird · 03/03/2020 13:04

I know it's no great shock, I just expected a bit better. My last car was. Hyundai I30 1.4 engine and that was hovering around 40. I'll definitely pay more attention and ask around before I buy another car!!

59 plate dodge nitro

A horrific 17mpg.

amazedmummy · 03/03/2020 14:55

I lied I'm at 42.4 right now. Still not terrible.

DustyMaiden · 03/03/2020 14:59

BMW. Msport, can’t remember the rest

45 to the gallon, which I think is good.
