xyzandabc · 01/03/2020 16:08

Surely you can just look at a map, no?

GreyishDays · 01/03/2020 16:10

It’s obvious it’s Gretna Green on one side? Grin

xyzandabc · 01/03/2020 16:11

Here you go, from gretna green in the west to Berwick upon Tweed in the east.

Never thought of the maps, ignore me. Grin
I did realise after posting I didn't say where from Blush
So somewhere between Carlisle and Dumfries if coming from North England.
Does anyone know the exact point.

Hadrian's wall

TallulahMazda · 01/03/2020 16:19

The English-Scottish border is at Carter Bar. Berwickshire is the region which runs into Scotland and Berwick is Northumberland England. Eyemouth and Jedburgh are the first Scottish towns you reach. Depending on the route in.

ScottishStottie · 01/03/2020 16:19

Theres a big sign...

cologne4711 · 01/03/2020 16:31

Hadrian's wall ha ha

cologne4711 · 01/03/2020 16:31

Eyemouth and Jedburgh are the first Scottish towns you reach. Depending on the route in I thought it was Coldstream.

Cohle · 01/03/2020 16:31

You wanted to know where the border is and didn't think of looking at a map? Confused

TallulahMazda · 01/03/2020 16:36

Nope. 5 miles ish to Jedburgh from
Border. 10 miles ish to Eyemouth and maybe 20 ish to Coldstream.

Whitelisbon · 01/03/2020 16:39

Between Carlisle and Dumfries, you'd be on the m6, so it would be gretna green.

Whitelisbon · 01/03/2020 16:39

But theres a great big sign on the m6 letting you know you're in scotland too.

Brahumbug · 01/03/2020 18:31

Hadrian's wall has nothing to do with the scottish border. Grin

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2020 18:35

If you are coming up the M6 from Carlisle the first place in Scotland is Gretna Green. The motorway name changes from M6 to M74. There’s a big sign at the side of the road.

Goldrill · 01/03/2020 18:40

I'm going to bike across it once I've put the kids to bed.
Some of the minor roads also have the welcome to Scotland signs on.
The border runs along the river Sark for a fair way on this side of the country, so it is clear cut.

BikeRunSki · 01/03/2020 18:44

I like the route through the forest at Newcastleton/Kielder.

RoomR0613 · 01/03/2020 19:13

Hadrian's wall has nothing to do with the scottish border

Ask a silly question, get a silly answer Grin

The big Welcome to Scotland Signs on the M6 just after Carlisle are usually a pretty good indication

Clangus00 · 01/03/2020 19:18

There’s a big sign that every single Scot I have ever met cheers at on the way back into Scotland.

MightyMile · 01/03/2020 19:36

Nope. 5 miles ish to Jedburgh from
Border. 10 miles ish to Eyemouth and maybe 20 ish to Coldstream

Coldstream is literally on the border. There's a bridge over the Tweed into the town, it's England on one side and Scotland on the other.

ICouldHaveBeenAContender · 01/03/2020 22:02

OP, there's a muckle great sign on the M6/M74 just before junction 22 of the M74 (the junction for Gretna). It looks like this.

On the Scottish side, you are in Dumfries and Galloway, and your postcode will start DG. There will be other post-codes as you head east.

When you are up close, the border is anything but a straight line! In some places, England is actually north of Scotland.

Have a close-up look on Google maps and you'll see it follows the course of the River Sark, then cuts across to the Esk, then the Liddel for quite a distance. Then it heads across the hills before following the Tweed which, as MightyMile said, goes through Coldstream, and that forms the border most of the way to Berwick-upon-Tweed. The border veers north just before Berwick - which of course is in England.
