There's a car parked across my drive. What do you think would happen IRL if I blocked them in?

I've returned from work to find I can't get in my drive. I live opposite a primary school so its not unusual, especially when its raining.

This isn't one of the "I'll only be a minute"s though as all the other cars have gone now and I can park quite easily on the road behind them.

I could move our other car off the drive and park close in front blocking them in (double drive so I can get the car that's there off, but I can't get into the "space") iyswim.

The advice here is so often to block them in, inconvenience them and watch them squirm but if I do that, I have to deal with the confrontation. They're obviously a considerate sort, they're probably a regular visitor and they know where I live!

Also, on this occasion, it doesn't really matter ,but on others it would.

Would you deal with the aggro just for fun?

Block them. Then when they come knocking tell them it's not your car.

I'm reporting this thread for lack of diagram.
i have no doubt the authorities will be on my side.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2020 17:21

thereis of course the Authorities will have your back.

Judge Rinder , Judge Judy, Judge Jeffreys ..........

Not a court in the land would convict you Grin

oh porcupine, that's inspired...

you could embellish that a little too and say maybe it was someone else who thought parking like a twat was not a bad habit...and sympathise about how annoying it is

PuppyMonkey · 28/02/2020 17:23

I agree with those saying a photo is the requisite addition to the thread in the circumstances, OP.

Preferably taken from a funny angle, so we can’t see the situation properly.

Then everyone can pile on and tell you they can’t see the problem and you can go upstairs again and take a better one.Grin

CodenameVillanelle · 28/02/2020 17:24

Definitely block them in. Rude fuckers

VivaLeBeaver · 28/02/2020 17:25

I’ve blocked someone in once. I asked them nicely to move, they refused, said they wanted to finish their chips sat in the car. I blocked them in. They sat there for about an hour, after which time I went back out and asked them if they’d now move. They said yes, so I let them out, they never said sorry. Cheeky fuckers. I was causing a slight obstruction in the road otherwise I’d have left it there for longer!

LaurieSchafferIsAllBitterNow · 28/02/2020 17:25

OR ...just look blank and say

"I'm sorry I don't speak English" ...I am dying to do this but have not had the chance.

donquixotedelamancha · 28/02/2020 17:27

Presumably OP has decided by now but personally I would block them in too.

I would not anticipate agro, because even CFs are usually apologetic when caught out.

I would consider the small chance of hassle dealing with a bully (from the position of them needing my co-operation) to be worth the need to ensure access to my drive.

MimiLaRue · 28/02/2020 17:27

Block them in. We get it a lot too because we are right next to the downs and alot of people dont realise its our drive and park over it. I rage every damn time. I spoke to our local policeman about this- they said if youve been blocked in the police will tow it because it means in an emergency you cant get out if necessary (eg hospital etc) however, if youve been blocked out, they wont do anything. Block them it. Its their own fault.

longtompot · 28/02/2020 17:30

As annoying as it is to have someone block your drive, they aren't doing anything wrong as you have not been blocked in.

I might have agreed with you had you posted the required by parking posts law diagram Wink

Angelw · 28/02/2020 17:40

Block them, “unless ur in the car to move if need be”I don’t think there’s ever a reason to Block Someone’s driveway.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 28/02/2020 17:43

Can you put a downturned smiley face on the windscreen in Shaving Foam?

raspberryk · 28/02/2020 17:45

I blocked someone in all night once, do it - cheeky fuckers

OhCaptain · 28/02/2020 17:46

Oooh well done raspberry! Where they fuming?!

MissConductUS · 28/02/2020 17:47

You could let the air out of one of their tyres. Grin

PlanDeRaccordement · 28/02/2020 17:47

Just leave a passive aggressive note on their windscreen.

HaddawayAndShite · 28/02/2020 17:50

they aren't doing anything wrong.
It might not be illegal but you have to be a prize winning douchebag to think it’s ok to park across someone’s drive and a drop curb.

cheeseball123 · 28/02/2020 17:50

Porcupineinwaiting YES

Anniissa · 28/02/2020 17:54

We came back late one night to find a car parked across our dropped kerb and blocking our drive. We left a very polite note asking them not to do it again as we needed access to the drive. Two days later every tyre on our car was slashed. So I’d be wary in future of even leaving a note. The problem is they know where you live and what car is yours.

ValerieJoy · 28/02/2020 17:57

Call the police and complain that your drive has been obstructed and you can't get in or out. They can run the plate find out who it is and maybe take action. Perhaps don't do what my husband once did, get behind the car in his car and slowly shunt them out of the way! I ran indoors not wishing to be a witness. They never parked there again.

fedup21 · 28/02/2020 17:57

No, they're not blocking a car on, I can't get onto the drive

Diagram still needed.

Would be tempted to block them in (as you can’t get on your driveway) and then go and knock on a few doors to see whose it is!

Aposterhasnoname · 28/02/2020 18:06

Actually I once did block someone in who parked across my drive. She started crying and I ended up apologising to her.

myohmywhatawonderfulday · 28/02/2020 18:07

We once came back from an evening out to find a car parked on our drive. That was quite surprising. It was our new neighbour and when we said the next day that he couldn't park there because it was our drive he said - I thought it (the gravel space in front of our house away from the kerb) was for anyone on the street to park on.?????? He hasn't done it again though.

Friendsofmine · 28/02/2020 18:12

I would on this occasion because it is probably a neighbour etc who didn't have anywhere to park and knew you wouldn't be home.

However, if it was a regular occurrence I would and have done. Not all night but long enough to prove a point. Just watch they don't have a tow bar and somewhere to be though.
