There's a car parked across my drive. What do you think would happen IRL if I blocked them in?

I've returned from work to find I can't get in my drive. I live opposite a primary school so its not unusual, especially when its raining.

This isn't one of the "I'll only be a minute"s though as all the other cars have gone now and I can park quite easily on the road behind them.

I could move our other car off the drive and park close in front blocking them in (double drive so I can get the car that's there off, but I can't get into the "space") iyswim.

The advice here is so often to block them in, inconvenience them and watch them squirm but if I do that, I have to deal with the confrontation. They're obviously a considerate sort, they're probably a regular visitor and they know where I live!

Also, on this occasion, it doesn't really matter ,but on others it would.

Would you deal with the aggro just for fun?

Block them in.
Block them in.
Block them in.

gafferareyouthere · 28/02/2020 16:29

I'd keep beeping your horn and if no one comes out block the CF in!

Largeyellowdaffodil · 28/02/2020 16:31

I’d just put a note on the car.

Which they screw up and thrown on the floor.
Or the lady who threw the note on the floor and when her son aged about 8 asked what it was she said- the silly person (me I assume) isn't very good at parking and couldn't get off their drive! No you were parked across it-I couldn't have got a push bike past never mind 2 family cars.

If you had a single drive then yes, block them, but it's not like you haven't got any access - there is already a car parked on your drive that can get in and out.

I'd go for a note this time and then next time I'd block them really closely!

winniethekid · 28/02/2020 16:33

YABVVVVU because there is no diagram. If you produce a diagram then they are VVVVU Grin

Mydogatemypurse · 28/02/2020 16:33

Terrible behaviour on their behalf. This happened to my friend. After taking reasonable steps to sort it eg knocking at nearby houses you are in your right to ring the police and get it removed

JKScot4 · 28/02/2020 16:35

I think a photo IS needed as previous blocked drive thread featuring Gary & Steve?
was fake, so proof is required.

Cocolapew · 28/02/2020 16:38

I'd block them in and not bother to answer the door.

wildthingsinthenight · 28/02/2020 16:39

Block and wine! Block and wine!Grin

baubled · 28/02/2020 16:39

Block them in OP, they'll only get properly mad if you refuse to move it when they knock. Just enough so they'll think on next time

Ohdeariedear · 28/02/2020 16:40

I would sit in my car honking the horn til someone came out...

Winterlife · 28/02/2020 16:46

Block them, then watch for when they return. You don't have to answer the door, but I would be watching in case that person damaged my car.

I'd also probably come out after 30 minutes or so to move the car, hoping the lesson is learned.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2020 16:51

Take a photo for your own records (in case there's any aggro )

If they're not blocking a car there's probably not a lot you can do -though you can check the local parking laws for your area WRT the can't block you in but can block you out rule .

You'll just have to park up real close and watch out for them.

blueheaven97 · 28/02/2020 16:54

Maybe I'm not getting this - but if you have another car that is currently on the drive, can't you move that one across within the drive, to create a space that your first car can get into?

DontCallMeShitley · 28/02/2020 16:55

Aud if there is parking enforcement nearby it may not take months for them to arrive, they want to give out as many tickets as possible and can actually arrive quite quickly.

Only a couple of streets away from shops and businesses and you can get lucky. I am assuming you have had experience of this and that they didn't turn up whereas here they would be popping round to ticket.

nowaypep · 28/02/2020 16:58

I mean, you could block them in. But wouldn't you rather be the bigger person and just have a word with them when they eventually come back for their car?

DontCallMeShitley · 28/02/2020 17:01

I would be tempted to nudge it away from your drive, if your car is a big enough one and there is no available rugby team to lift it or anyone to come and ticket.

Lifesabeach86 · 28/02/2020 17:03

Forget the diagram, can we have a photo please!! It's the law to provide a visual on any parking related post Grin

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 28/02/2020 17:04

but if you have another car that is currently on the drive, can't you move that one across within the drive, to create a space that your first car can get into

And pretend that car was there all the time and the CF blocked it .

You might look a tad deranged if you have to do a million back/forth moves ..........

I was parking (legally ) in a Pay&Display space , town centre , main road and I was bloody determined to have it (otherwise I'd have had to park in the NCP and walk back with the DC) .

I did it -hurrah .....then the car in front moved off . They were in there the whole time and could've moved a bit Hmm . And I wasn;t parking anywhere I shouldn't .

northernlittledonkey · 28/02/2020 17:04

Block them in, but without a diagram - has someone really parked over the entrance to your drive?

HopeYouStepOnALego · 28/02/2020 17:08

I'd block them in. When they knock to ask if it's your cars blocking them in I'd say yes, and tell them that as they've inconvenienced you for X amount of hours, then they should call back in a further X hours so that they can experience the same frustration. Advise them that their car will be fine as your CCTV is monitoring it (say that even if you don't have any noticeable cameras).

Feedthispiggychoc · 28/02/2020 17:11

Block block block.
I've had this before and they blocked MY car in with no consideration whilst they went to their friends for 3 hours.

GeorgeTheFirst · 28/02/2020 17:11

I did block someone in once. They came to ask me to move. I said I'd just get my keys. I didn't go back out. He got out, but it took him ages and loads of shuffling. His car was nicer than mine so I wasn't that worried about damage.

FlaskMaster · 28/02/2020 17:12

If they're only over half the drive, so you can still use the drive albeit with a bit of shifting about then I'd let it go tbh. Inconveniencing them for fun would just be being a dick then imo and not worth the agro. But if they'd parked like an absolute bell end and genuinely inconvenienced you then I'd get it if you felt the need to make a point.

Straycatstrut · 28/02/2020 17:16

Diagram or it didn't happen Grin....

Honestly I'd block them in full on and wait for them to come crawling to me to move my car. Which I would do very, very slowly.
