Making Quarantine Fun

I think it's possible to have a light-hearted thread about covid19.

I was wondering.. how would you try to spend 2 weeks forced to stop at home? How would you prepare, what would you plan to do, or want to buy & have on hand (not prepping, just to pass the time):

I have a difficult jigsaw puzzle, a few thick books, and a quilt I meant to start making 5 years ago. There are a few movies/tv shows I never saw - but I'm not much of a tv person, tbh. Still, those things might fill my 2 weeks. What about you?

I think I'd like a brand new lover

lljkk · 27/02/2020 21:05

I will be very disappointed in MN if this thread doesn't include a lot of raunchyness. Grin

Loads of books, netflix/now tv/amazon prime, a couple of boardgames and a duvet I reckon would see me through. Oh and some wine WineGrin. I have spent far too much time today pondering what would happen with the dog though. He doesnt like to do his business in the garden and gets very stroppy without a decent walk. I expect he would ruin our 14 days of relaxing!

Geometricprince · 27/02/2020 21:08

Yeah there'd be loads of raunchyness too. I mean you've got to fill the time somehow.

BasilDiffuser · 27/02/2020 21:09

My sister is in isolation. With a 16 month old. She’s bored to tears already.

ILiveInSalemsLot · 27/02/2020 21:12

I’d read 42 books and complete a masters.
Not really but I’d read a couple of books, watch lots of Netflix and be very bored after 4 days. Probably have a few blazing rows with family members to liven things up.

TweetUsOnFacebook · 27/02/2020 21:13

I could easily spend two weeks reading, watching TV and knitting.
Dh would drive me nuts though. He likes to get stuff done and hates sitting around doing nothing.

CherryPlum · 27/02/2020 21:13

I'd like dry weather so that I could do a bit of gardening. A good supply of bird food, as I enjoy watching the birds feeding. Apart from that, books, nature documentaries, history programmes, and cooking - I'd soon run out of meat for casseroles though so I suspect there would be lots of boring pasta meals.

TreesSandSea · 27/02/2020 21:14

I’d finish the book I am writing.
Though I wouldn’t. I’d arse around on MN like I am now.

Fumnudge · 27/02/2020 21:15

Learn another language! Though I haven't managed that in the considerable years I've been on this planet so I'm not sure 2 weeks will make any difference.

IvinghoeBeacon · 27/02/2020 21:19

Well. I have a toddler. If I were isolated with him I would be driven to distraction and without him I would miss him terribly. Otherwise I have a backlog of sewing and knitting projects and audiobooks that would see me through nicely, plus I could probably whack out a couple of assignments for my university course

Waxonwaxoff0 · 27/02/2020 21:19

I'd honestly go nuts. I don't know what I'd do. I hate staying in the house all day, just one day does my head in, let alone 14. Watching TV and reading books - I enjoy those things in short bursts but couldn't spend hours doing it.

I have an almost 7yo, he would probably play a lot of Minecraft!

Khione · 27/02/2020 21:20

I'm in the process of painting - painting anything that stands still for more than 5 minutes.

Preparing for 13 day lock down would mean that as well as all the woodwork I would paint all the walls and, most probably, every bit of paintable furniture too.

I'd also like a big online shop for ingredients to batch cook and fill my freezer with healthy, tasty food. And enough wine to pass the evenings on as well.

SeaOtterFluff · 27/02/2020 21:20

I would crochet, binge watch trash on Netflix, drink copious amounts of coffee and enjoy not having to commute to work. I sometimes take a random day off work and do precisely that, so to do it for a fortnight would be wonderful. Apologies for the lack of raunch...

lljkk · 27/02/2020 21:21

Would we be allowed to go out in the garden -- could I mow the lawn or pull the weeds?

OP posts:
HelenaJustina · 27/02/2020 21:21

Lots of reading, gardening, my house would be immaculate! I’d empty out cupboards, do my embroidery, daily exercise to stay sane!

HelenaJustina · 27/02/2020 21:22

Ooooh yes, decorating! Would re paint my bedroom and the hall.

captainprincess · 27/02/2020 21:23

I'd be in the same boat as @Geometricprince with my dog, he'd drive me mad as he doesn't like going in the garden much. I'd probably spend most of the time worrying about him Grin
If it was just me I could fill my time with Netflix and books.

teenagetantrums · 27/02/2020 21:27

I have loads of Netflix and prime to catch up on. Books need reading. House needs a serious sort out. I would actually love 2weeks at home. Have plenty of food and wine as l prepped for no deal Brexit. However we have no kids and home and no dogs that need walking. Would not like it in that situation.

Putthebinsoutalan · 27/02/2020 21:28

I'd have the best 14 days ever (as long as I didn't actually get ill). Staying in bed late, reading, dancing by myself, eating all the magnums, and the dog would be ecstatic to have me at home too, he happily goes out for a walk round the garden and wouldn't be bothered about going out.

CoisFarraige · 27/02/2020 21:31

I'd sort out the huge backlog of photos on my phone and get them sent to be printed or at least ready to print in batches.
I'd get a free trial to Ancestry or the likes and do some research on family history stuff.
I'd spend time doing something creative - have all the materials, just never have a block of time to get really stuck in.
I think I would be quite content by myself for two weeks as long as I had food and internet access. If my DH and teenage DS's were here, it would probably be harder!!

GnomeDePlume · 27/02/2020 21:36

I would retreat to my allotment (we arent a particularly sociable lot so would still be isolation) and really press on with my seed sowing.

Actually if there is any sort of crisis I will retreat to my allotment. Hell, I could go fully feral and bath in the pond. I have a pitch fork to keep any contact at bay.

woodencoffeetable · 27/02/2020 21:36

I have flooring to lay.
would be great if I could do more than one length a week...

Casino218 · 27/02/2020 21:37

I'd just work from home. I told my boss today that I may get stranded on holiday due to corona v and he said well most lecturers go abroad and do their marking that way anyway!

Youngatheart00 · 27/02/2020 21:38

I believe we’d be allowed in to our own back gardens?

If so - gardening, raking leaves, pulling up weeds, tbh my skills don’t extend much further than that and there’d be no going out to buy bedding plants!

I imagine I’d get though a fair few books. Probably 5 or 6 in that time.

Reading / watching news to keep posted on the latest virus situation

Not being able to do any exercise would frustrate me so I’d probably start a press up / sit up regime and maybe even do a few star jumps 😂

Tidy / clean the house. An enforced quarantine would allow me to tackle room by room and do a deep clean, rather than the usual surface clean

Netflix also 😬 give me alllll the true crime documentaries!!!
