Is your house always guest ready?

I have been off work sick. Feeling miserable so watching a lot of tv.

I have noticed that in loads of shows, overnight guests turn up unexpected and there is always a guest room with clean bed linens. The house is also always tidy.

If someone arrived at my door now they would find a messy living room and a spare bedroom with no sheets on the bed and a half emptied suitcase on the floor. The bathroom would also need a scrub.

Am I a slob? Is everyone else house guest ready?

There are spare sleeping bags, camp pillows, self-inflating camp mats, some bedding to cushion it all out and floor space. That will have to do.

Lipperfromchipper · 21/02/2020 20:09

Yes pretty much.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 21/02/2020 20:09

No. Just no.

Oly4 · 21/02/2020 20:11

Of course not, I need at least a day to sort the house for guests coming! Preferably a week

MaggieFS · 21/02/2020 20:12

Near enough. There will be whatever I've had out that day, or DS' toys but generally it's ok, and bathrooms are always clean. Don't make up the spare bed though as I think it would get dusty and that's another thing to clean. I just put a blanket over it (which prob does get dusty but no one else sees!)

My guest room can be beautiful, but it rarely is😊.

I am trying to get on top of it - getting the house deep cleaned on Monday so trying to declutter. But it’s a big job.

The other day I had an hours notice that dh was bringing a friend over. I just said 'excuse the mess'. We shoved blankets at him and he stepped over all the toys.

acatcalledjohn · 21/02/2020 20:13

Hahahahahahaha!

No.

I usually try to keep everywhere tidy. Sometimes things accumulate on the dining table, if it's late or we've had a busy day they may get left on the back of the table until the next day (6 seater table, 3 of us so things get put at the back out the way so we can still sit at it).
However at the moment we are not sure if we will have to move or not. So we started packing just in case. So the house has looked like a self storage unit for ages. I'm sick of it. Will be glad to know one way or the other so we can finish packing and get moved, or unpack, get our home back to feeling like our home with pictures and ornaments and stuff back up, rather than just a house we live in, and get the boxes and suitcases back in the loft out the way. (No spare room either to put anything)

No GrinGrin

Disfordarkchocolate · 21/02/2020 20:14

Even when we have guests it's no 'guest ready'. There will be a warm welcome but you'll have to take us as you find us.

No. I can cobble something together at a pinch if you don't mind roughing it.

anothermansmother · 21/02/2020 20:17

Definitely not. Friends are welcomed with open arms but have to take us as they find us. It took me a week to get mother ready and even then it wasn't up to her exacting standards...I've brought her home today ( we managed 2 nights)

TwoZeroTwoZero · 21/02/2020 20:18

We don't have a spare room, which is good since we never have overnight guests anyway! The house is clean but messy but since the only people who are ever likely to visit us know us it doesn't matter anyway. The teapot is almost always full.

Itwasntme1 · 21/02/2020 20:19

@DDIJ why are you not allowed visitors? Who is setting this rule?

DownWhichOfLate · 21/02/2020 20:20

@DDIJ - why aren’t you allowed guests?

DrDreReturns · 21/02/2020 20:21

My spare room is full of rubbish at the moment. I need to clear it out as my parents are coming next weekend!

EdgeWithNoReason · 21/02/2020 20:25

I have got three people coming to stay for 3 weeks. They will mostly have to take us as we come but I will have to give the house a bit of a light clean. I also don't have enough bedding and towels so will be borrowing some!

cheeseandcrackers · 21/02/2020 20:25

If I have guests I probably spend 30 mins putting out clean towels, giving the bathroom a quick once over and putting clean sheets on the spare bed but it is pretty much guest ready. I tend to leave sheets on after a guest leaves and just change them fresh for the next guest as if I had clean sheets on the beds I would only have to change them again if the kids decide to build a fort or hide under the sheets

troppibambini · 21/02/2020 20:26

Yes it is. Sometimes after tea it's a bit messy but I do a tidy up every night while dh baths the kids.
Every Friday I clean from top to bottom and we all try and keep on top of it.

troppibambini · 21/02/2020 20:27

Oh and we don't have a spare room too many kids.

Wauden · 21/02/2020 20:27

Only after a clear up. I have a thorough clean and tidy up once a fortnight. I have small areas of 'stuff' one of which I just put a nice cloth over! But it is a clean house. Ffs give me notice!

IdblowJonSnow · 21/02/2020 20:28

If I had a spare/guest room I'd move in myself! But yes, in answer to your question, my house is pretty clean, although I think I'd change sheets just before visit so they were fresher and not dusty.

Jellyfisheralert · 21/02/2020 20:33

I don't even have a spare room 😂. Definitely not guest ready it's half term, toys everywhere and the landing has become a laundry basket extension lol also I didn't make my bed today 🙊
