What would you lose if your purse was lost/stolen?

It occurred to me the other day that if my purse went I could get bank cards, library card replaced easily.

But I have a tassel charm on the zip from a girlfriend, photos and letters from family, love notes.

Is it a bad idea to personalise it so much?

Realistically, the most likely things to go missing are keys phone purse.

Do you keep many personal items in yours?

I only have the necessities in mine but you could say the same about losing anything really. There's no point keeping it super generic just in case, surely?

Babyfg · 21/02/2020 07:28

Why do you keep love notes in your bag? Your bag sounds like a memory box.
My bag probably is 50% crumbs from the kids snacks and a couple of rocks they're taking a fancy to when we've been walking. then the essential (purse, keys, phone, millions of receipts that aren't needed). I really need to clear out my bag!
Could you keep your sentimental bits at home just incase?

ExpletiveDelighted · 21/02/2020 07:29

I don't keep anything in mine apart from cash and a few cards (I only keep cards I use regularly in it, so credit/debit plus a coffee shop loyalty card). I keep the rest at home (membership cards etc) and have loyalty cards on a phone app. I like my purse small and light.

Deathraystare · 21/02/2020 07:30

Money!
A nice Kipling purse,
Not sure if I am hexed - I had two stolen. Well one I must have left on a store counter and it wasn't there when I went back.
The second was stolen in a bag (Kipling!).

Cards, a bit of cash and my driving licence. It's a very small purse.

2020runner · 21/02/2020 07:51

Cards, maybe £5 in cash and some emergency imodium

hidinginthenightgarden · 21/02/2020 07:53

Cards and occasionally cash. I wouldnt have anything sentimental in in case it was lost.

Xmasfairy86 · 21/02/2020 07:54

A bazillion receipts 🙈
All my cards. Couple of photos. Nothing too sentimental that can’t be replaced

couchlover · 21/02/2020 08:05

I have a letter my mum wrote me and some badges from my daughters brownies and my original NI card so I guess they are pretty irreplaceable.

InMySpareTime · 21/02/2020 08:09

About 30 loyalty cardsBlush.
My name and address (this actually helped when my wallet got lost and someone posted it back through my door).
Bank cards, donor cards, NT card (which I rarely use as DH uses his).
Very little cash, nothing sentimental.

In short, if someone mugs me they will be only a few purchases away from a free hot drink in a lot of local cafes.

Frownette · 21/02/2020 09:24

I think I might need to clear mine. I don't know why I keep love notes really, must have been feeling soppy

Cards of course, driving licence and about £15 cash. Nothing I'd be very upset to lose.

Pascha · 21/02/2020 09:36

Mine has bank cards, clubcard, cash, drivers licence and a few receipts but nothing deeply personal.

I have ditched the big special purse in a big special bag for a pocket sized purse and no bag. Its wonderful.

marashino · 21/02/2020 09:40

Mine only has the essentials in it so the impact wouldn't be emotional loss but practical as I'd have no other way of getting any money until the new bank card arrived.

Sammysquiz · 21/02/2020 09:48

I think keeping things like letters or irreplaceable photos in a purse is a bad idea. So much safer kept at home.

Frownette · 21/02/2020 09:51

@Sammyspritz you may be right

I've never really thought about it before but the only sentimental thing in my purse is a first class stamp which I kept from my dads desk when he died, it's a Concorde stamp and he was fanatical about Concorde but I often fear someone going into my purse and using it by mistake instead of a standard stamp iyswim - I'm literally going to move it right now, even though it's daft!

JigsawsAreInPieces · 21/02/2020 10:13

Mostly loyalty cards and a photo of DH. I carry minimal cash as I pay by card for most things.

My phone has my bank cards and an emergency £20 tucked in the back.

mnthrowaway202020 · 21/02/2020 10:29

I use a card holder instead of a purse so not much to lose, just bank cards/license/work ID which are all fairly easily replaced.

However the 3 card holders that I cycle between are all expensive/luxury designer, so I would be most annoyed at losing the card holder itself rather than the contents!

With loyalty cards, for the most part there’s either an app counterpart for everything which means you don’t need to carry the physical card everywhere.

InMySpareTime · 21/02/2020 10:34

@mnthrowaway202020 all my loyalty cards are for independent retailers, or chains who don't have apps.
I could possibly reduce my loyalty cards by 2 or 3, but it would make little difference to my wallet size.

magicstar1 · 21/02/2020 10:40

I only have a small wallet with 2 bank cards, 1 credit card and my driving licence in it. Sometime's there's cash too. I purposely chose it so if it gets lost or stolen it won't be too much hassle to replace.

mnthrowaway202020 · 21/02/2020 10:42

@InMySpareTime i use an app called Stocard, it essentially creates a virtual barcode for loyalty cards that you can scan in store.

InMySpareTime · 21/02/2020 11:21

If they have a scanner. Most local cafes round here won't (one doesn't even take card payments!)

inwood · 21/02/2020 12:43

Nothing I don't ev n have a purse. My cards are in my phone case.

If I lost my phone I'd be truly stuffed but could still pay for stuff using Apple Pay so could eh get home if needed.
