I've just cooked out of date dry pasta!

I thought it took longer to cook than expected but it did taste fine, then when putting the remainder back in the cupboard I noticed the best before/use-by date! SIX YEARS AGO!!!

So what would you do? Dump the rest of it or use it? I hate food waste but we're talking 75p here maximum, we're still alive and it did taste good.

I would use it.

Blurpblorp · 19/02/2020 19:31

Hee hee... It tasted fine and there's little that could go off in dried pasta. I'd keep it and enjoy!

Didntwanttochangemyname · 19/02/2020 19:31

I'd eat it.

WinterCat · 19/02/2020 19:32

I’d use it. You already know it still tastes good.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 19/02/2020 19:32

If tonight's didn't kill you, the rest of it won't. I'd use it.

DwayneBenzie · 19/02/2020 19:35

It’s fine. It’s dried. It may taste a little stale but it’s hardly raw chicken, is it.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 19/02/2020 19:37

I didn't even know it went off. Eat it!

Purpletigers · 19/02/2020 19:38

If you’re still alive tomorrow I’d eat it !

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 19/02/2020 19:40

It doesn’t go off. Enjoy!

Redpriestandmozart · 19/02/2020 19:41

The best part is I have shuffled this pack around the cupboard but it doesn't seem like six years but it must have been! No tummy ache and as you say, not much to go off and it was sealed Grin

ive eaten an egg that had 1st feb on it,still here and not ill Grin

bloodywhitecat · 19/02/2020 19:43

I store my pasta in jars so have no way of knowing how old it is Grin.

polkadotpj · 19/02/2020 19:45

Mine doesn't get time to get out of date but I'm sure it's fine!

BoldRoo · 19/02/2020 19:46

I ate a yoghurt that was two months out of date recently and lived to tell the tale. I would definitely eat something that was a dry product like this, especially if I knew it tasted okay!

StealthPolarBear · 19/02/2020 19:48

I came on to laugh but I'll admit six years is a while!
It wasn't opened six years ago was it? Sealed until tonight? If so I'd keep it.

Usesomecaution · 19/02/2020 19:49

You cooked it in 💯 degrees boiling water.
Kills all food spoilage bugs.

DesLynamsMoustache · 19/02/2020 19:49

I'm just impressed you had pasta that long without being eaten! Wouldn't happen in this house!

Redpriestandmozart · 19/02/2020 19:54

The wrong shape :) it was Napolina White Linguine, we've eaten wholemeal pasta for years, always spaghetti or fusilli or I can see why it was overlooked Grin

Best before and use by dates are completely different things. A use by means it could be unsafe to eat, a best before just means it might not taste quite as nice.

StillMedusa · 19/02/2020 21:33

Dry pasta has a best before date?!!?!? Who knew Grin

(no chance here... three young adult males in the house...wish I had shares in it!)

NotYourTypicalNerd · 19/02/2020 22:16

I found a jar of lemon curd best before 2015 in my cupboard today. Would you like it to go with your out of date pasta? Grin

Miljea · 19/02/2020 22:34

Call 999.

Obvs.

😂

Hadenoughofitall441 · 19/02/2020 22:35

I’m freaked out you’ve not noticed it was there for 6 years. In our house we check for out of date stuff every 6 months. Dry goods mostly say best before so we will use them up to 6 months after other wise the Er tossed. That rarely happens though to be honest.

megletthesecond · 19/02/2020 22:49

I'd eat it.

mumwon · 19/02/2020 23:00

you probably find it had a higher protein level Grin all those lovely little cooked larder beetles et al
