Hot Cross Bun drama....

DH has just gone to the kitchen, got a hot Cross Bun, and has just eaten it as is.
No slicing it open, no toasting it, no butter.

How did I not know this about him before I married him Confused

I would hide them and not allow him any more.

BlueBolts · 17/02/2020 23:48

He's toast now!

No, no and thrice no OP. If there was ever a defence for murder, you have it right there.
Hot cross buns should be split in half and thickly buttered. ( Toasted if older than a day or so )
The man is clearly insane and in need of help.
I'd get my ducks in a row, bag his stuff, change the locks and log it with the police before having a free half hour consultation with the solicitor.

Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. If it's the right amount of sticky then it's perfectly fine. If it's a bit more dry and flaky you need to lube out up.

SconNotScone · 18/02/2020 09:15

I put mine in the microwave for 20 seconds so it goes warm and soft, then scoff it as it is, yummy.

Jam and bread is awful! Slimey and squishy. Jam should only go on toasted thing or in cake....or between two biscuits....or in a doughnut...

Hidingtonothing · 18/02/2020 10:18

DD does this, I watch in silent horror these days as no amount of education or setting a good example has convinced her of the wrongness of no butter. She's a lost cause Sad

katewhinesalot · 18/02/2020 10:22

Straight out of the packet here. No butter or anything.

katewhinesalot · 18/02/2020 10:22

And no butter on malt loaf either.

caperplips · 18/02/2020 10:45

What is wrong with everyone!
Who eats a dry, cold hot cross bun!??
The ONLY acceptable way is to toast them lightly and slather liberally with real salted Irish butter.

Scones cannot be eaten dry either! But no toasting there - split open and again slather (technical term) with salted Irish butter in a thick layer so you leave teeth marks as you take a bite.

Depending on the mood, very good quality raspberry jam can be added on top of the butter.

On special occasions the butter can be dispensed with and clotted cream can replace it - again in very liberal quantities and then the jam on top.

Jam sandwiches are a thing of joy IF you have super soft, fresh white bread with crispy crust, real salted Irish butter and fresh best quality raspberry jam. The best technique is to slightly soften the butter (just so it won't tear the bread) but def not very soft or slightly melted butter -yuk! Spread plenty of butter on a slice of bread, add lots of jam, fold the bread over in half without cutting. Cram into mouth in a ladylike manner. Repeat several times Grin

Weird flavoured hot cross buns are NOT hot cross buns!

caperplips · 18/02/2020 10:46

Oh god - just saw the malted loaf comment - OF COURSE there is a thick layer of salted Irish butter on malted loaf - heathens! Grin

bobstersmum · 18/02/2020 10:46

Dh eats scones like this. Now that's wrong.

Bluetrews25 · 18/02/2020 12:17

Thanks a lot, you've now got me craving a chunky kit kat that I will eat in the accepted way of nibbling choc off all around the outside - starting with a short end, of course. Unfortunately, there are none in the house.
Might have to make do with a HCB. Confused
