Am I wrong for feeling livid

Name change....a family with a kid in my child’s nursery have just returned from a country in Asia after several weeks, and their child has gone straight back to the nursery. I’m thoroughly pissed off at the risk I feel they are posing to young children given the corona virus cases in that specific country. Am i dramatic?

OP posts:

Yes. Get a grip. Would you like to be told you had to make alternative childcare arrangements for your child if they had a tiny, tiny chance of being infected?

ChipotleBlessing · 15/02/2020 19:55

Have you always been a bit xenophobic or is this new for you?

isabellerossignol · 15/02/2020 19:58

I love the fact that it could be outing to specify which country in Asia.

Queryofthday · 15/02/2020 20:07

I love the fact that it could be outing to specify which country in Asia I don’t see why you’d love it but ok.
How’s it xenophobic to be concerned about someone travelling from a specific country which is of concern to world health organisation.

cstaff · 15/02/2020 20:07

Even naming a province within a country is not outing. People need to get grip. Ffs

Aridane · 15/02/2020 20:08

What - outing they went on holiday to Thailand?

Aridane · 15/02/2020 20:10

Well, if you want to indulge your xenophobia / paranoia, with draw your child from nursery

isabellerossignol · 15/02/2020 20:12

I don’t see why you’d love it but ok.

I love it because I think it's hilarious that anyone would think it outing that on a chat forum with millions of users, someone might say 'Thailand? Wait, my neighbour was in Thailand, it must be them! The OP must be Sally from the end of the road!'. (to pick a random Asian country out of thin air)

Also, was that a name change mid thread? You're post implies you are the OP

Aridane · 15/02/2020 20:14

As it’s not China, it will be one of the attached (from WHO’s statistics as of today)

Well now that the UK has made the top 20 maybe you should be included in places not to travel to or people to associate with. If that sounds ridiculous to you maybe you get the picture because on a prorata basis the numbers wouldn't be too far off.

MillicentMartha · 15/02/2020 20:47

YABU. Obviously. The top 10 countries include Germany, would you be worried if someone had been on holiday on Germany?

Lindy2 · 15/02/2020 20:51

Going against the grain YANBU.

To me the precautions being taken are pretty lax. I would much rather the family who has chosen to travel to an at risk country be inconvenienced by a 14 day quarantine than the virus be spread through a nursery to many other families.

Plantainchips · 15/02/2020 20:54

YABU and probably xenophobic

donquixotedelamancha · 15/02/2020 20:57

I’m not going to say the exact country as outing

LMAO. Do you ask every Chinese person you meet whether they know Li Wei from your local takeaway?

they spent 3 weeks in this country that is in the top 10 countries for the virus

Unless it was in the top one countries the risk is negligable. Asia is quite big. You would be potty to expect someone to quarantine themselves for two weeks for no reason, just because they went 'somewhere forrin'.

muddypuddles12 · 15/02/2020 20:58

This thread is a joke surely 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Mlou32 · 15/02/2020 21:12

I don't think you're being ridiculous, simply worried about your kid. To alleviate your fears, perhaps speak to the nursery manager and ask what the policy is on people returning from high risk countries. I think some universities advised students to stay off campus for two weeks (but I could be wrong).

I don't think there is a high risk to your child OP. I do get your worry though.

timeisnotaline · 15/02/2020 22:24

Top 10 countries... I mean, there are 66,000 cases in China, and after that maybe 70 cases in Singapore so we should definitely lump those countries together.

MaderiaCycle · 15/02/2020 22:30

Per head of population we’re probably closer to the top. PANIC!
