£140 For the regular 1460 black boots in my size! Bloody hell. Used to wear them all the time 20 years ago. They sure as hell weren't worth the equivalent of £140 back then.

And high-top Converse for £55!

I feel old and bitter.

Me and the husband live in doc marts, always have done. He's still wearing the black ones that he got married in 37 years ago.
His latest addition is a quirky white pair that have playing cards printed on them in black which everyone loves.
Look for last season's models if you're not very fussy on colour, you can get a bargain.
They're expensive yes, but I can't seem to stop myself from buying them. I'm lucky that I have size 2 feet so I can get away with buying from the kids range often, so not as expensive for me.
My shoe collection is a rainbow of colours from plain black to hot pink 😂
I agree that the quality these days is lacking the quality of yesteryear sadly.

Some of the fancier styles now are definitely not so good - had a couple of soft leather ones which were so much more comfortable but both wore out after a year (was told that wasn't surprising with the soft leather). Have a stripy pair that have each split in the leather - emailed a complaint and never heard back.

I did buy a pair of men's shoes in the sale which I wear most days, just need to replace the laces!

I never remember the quality being that good ?.I had a pair of plain black ones in 1993 ( I remember the year as I started my nurse training than and remember wearing tham on placement) and they split at the side and the paint pealed off after a few months I got a second purple velvet ones for my 21st birthday in 1994 that I absolutely adored but velvet kept splitting.

I went on amazon a couple of years ago and got a brand new pair in an adult size for under£70. They’re solid and look as new as the day I got them. I love the look of beat up docs but no matter what I do they won’t look worn :(

I suffer with plantar fascitis in one foot and my DMS are a godsend. I have a very active job and it would be torture without them. Paid £119 for shoes I'm a size 4 worth every penny.

My first pair in 1989 were £50, which was expensive then so probably equivalent.

They last for ever though. Nothing wears out on them. Big investment but on pay per wear you’ll be quids in after the first couple of years
I’m another one disagreeing with this. I bought a pair in the November and wore them through that winter, ( I walked about 15 miles a week in them), by spring/early summer would have been in pumps/flats and started wearing them again in the autumn. By the following spring, so after 2 winters, they have gone through on the bottom. I’ve still got them, but can’t wear them on wet days as they leak.

I correct every one who says they will last forever. No, they won’t. The ones I had as a teenager lasted forever (or until I left them at home when I moved out and dm chucked them away). The ones you buy now are no where near the same quality.

Some are made abroad now, but you can still get the Made in England ones. I bit them as they are a bit narrower so give more support to my hyper mobile ankles. I'm confused by people saying they are narrow now. I wear mine all the time, have had them for over a year, and I've made no impact on the soles at all. The stitching is rock solid and the only sign of wear is the leather being creased where it bends...
