Teeth straightening?

itswonkylampshade · 08/02/2020 11:44

I’m 42 and just noticing my teeth, which have always been decent, are not looking quite as great as they once did.

I’ve always had slightly crooked bottom teeth which has never bothered me, however, my top teeth are now starting to look as though they are sloping back into my mouth a bit. This, I can’t live with!

I don’t think I need a major brace-type intervention, and looking around there seem to be other options (night time retainers, etc).

Does anyone have any experience of having teeth straightened as an adult and, if so, what would you recommend I look at?

Look into Invisalign
It’s very popular at the moment.

Speak to your dentist they can discuss prices and what the treatment involves

Im 40 and got the 6months smile done 2 years ago.. It cost me €2500 and the best money I ever spent.. My teeth were shocking so instead of 6months it took 11 but I can honestly say it was the best thing I ever did.. My confidence shot up straight away and I smiled with my teeth where's before I'd have smiled with my mouth closed.. I'd recommend anyone to do it..

itswonkylampshade · 08/02/2020 12:45

@lonelyatchristmas - thank you...was it a fixed brace you needed?

I’ve seen Invisalign online @Heatherjayne1972. Have you had it done yourself?

Not had it done myself
I work in a dental practice tho

Lots of happy customers. With lovely straight teeth

I had invisalign and recently just got my retainers. Cost me £3000 and was worth every penny. Because my case was not overly bad, but still contained crooked bottom teeth and quite a large overbite on the top, the whole treatment process only took 20 weeks which is fab. I won’t lie and say it’s not a bit of a faff at first as you do have to remove them to eat or drink anything (although I personally did drink some beverages that didn’t have the potential to stain later on in my treatment and it did not harm) but this becomes second nature within weeks. I loved the discreetness of them and the faster treatment time. I’d say look into it! I catch myself smiling a lot more now Grin

Op yeah it was a fixed brace I had.. It was clear so went unnoticed really.. Don't think I'd have managed the invisalign.. I went back every 4 weeks and it was amazing the difference each app showed.. My 2 front teeth were sticking out and the tooth next to each front one i never saw as they were so far back and what I called dmy fangs nex tto them were huge and pointy.. They are all perfectly straight now.. Even my dentist was shocked at how well they turned out.. I have a bar behind 4of my top teeth to keep them in place as well as wearing my retainer at night..

itswonkylampshade · 08/02/2020 22:27

So with Invisalign is it really just clear retainers you wear most of the time for 6 months then? Nothing actually fixed to your teeth?

I went for six month smiles (google it), the cost was under £1,000. I'd recommend highly.

itswonkylampshade · 08/02/2020 22:49

That’s inexpensive, compared with Invisalign!

I did 6 month smiles and the cost was about £3K, so very similar to Invisalign.

I chose the fixed braces as I knew I wouldn’t be very good at remembering to put them back in!

Before and after pics hopefully attached!

Yes, invisalign are clear retainers that you wear for 23+ hours a day. Your dentist/orthodontist does put attachments on some of your teeth (they’re like little glue dots - look them up) but they’re also barely visible and used to focus attention on shifting particular teeth.

itswonkylampshade · 09/02/2020 19:11

Wow @BitchyArriver what a huge difference! How long did that take? Just six months?

Sorry to hijack but gas anyone with significant crowding found one of these solutions that works somehow for them? Guessing not without extractions...

blancheduboiss · 09/02/2020 21:18

UhKevin
I was told by my orthodontist i had quite severe overcrowding, however invisalign suited me fine and I had no need for an extraction. I sound like an ad at this point Grin just very happy with the result —and out of pocket—

Whynosnowyet · 09/02/2020 21:23

Just had fixed braces off after 10 months on... No regrets. Cost me £1500 via my dentist. I am 48.

UhKevin · 09/02/2020 21:41

blanche that’s really good to know I don’t necessarily have to rule it straight out, then, thanks Smile

Yellredder · 09/02/2020 22:06

Had two years of braces, train track jobs in my mid 40s. Done on the NHS. Best thing I ever did. I wear retainers at night now.

par05 · 09/02/2020 22:26

Place marking as am interested in invisalign too! But have teeth missing on the bottom, so not sure if it works with missing teeth.

BitchyArriver · 09/02/2020 22:28

Yes, it took pretty much exactly 6 months. Though I was told it might take a bit longer. Any questions feel free to ask.

It was the best £3K I’ve ever spent. It gave me so much confidence.

itswonkylampshade · 09/02/2020 22:43

Here are my teeth at the moment- not dreadful but definitely worse than they were. Actually, looking at my bottom row they are far more crooked than I realised! Top ones look ok in this picture but my middle two are definitely starting to slope inwards which I don’t like, at all.

I had buck teeth (still do). I got bonding instead of a brace, built my teeth up leaving no gaps, much cheaper/not sore and immediate results. Realise this may not work for everyone tho!

kleew1 · 09/02/2020 23:07

I’ve attached some pics to show the before & after... not the best comparisons but makes a huge difference! Excuse the OTT lip stick in the after...

@kleew1 do you mind me asking how much you paid? I’m looking into getting bonding done Smile

kleew1 · 10/02/2020 06:12

Of course @Angeldelight68 I didn’t actually pay - the dentist offered to do them under nhs as I’d just had my little one Blush but when asked he said ‘not a lot, about £200’ I’d wanted braces for years before hand and now I’m really happy not to have them!
