We have won a 7 night Eurocamp holiday plus ferry crossings. We can go anytime apart from July/August so thinking May half term. DH doesn’t mind driving and we have 3 under 7 so want to take our car

We’ve never been on a Eurocamp holiday so any tips gratefully received

Oooh where are you thinking of going?

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 07/02/2020 20:30

Well we were thinking of the South of France but open to any suggestions. There seems to be loads of options!

No advice but well done you!

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 07/02/2020 20:33

Thank you. It was only in a raffle so not as a result of any amazing talents shown by either of us 😁

La Rive!!!!
Been to 4 euro amps, this one by far the best. 5star, lake beach, loads of indoor and outdoor pools and water slides!! And a good shop on site

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 07/02/2020 20:42

Eurocamps not euro amps?!!!

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/02/2020 20:43

We've done a few Eurocamp holidays and always enjoyed them so congrats on winning the prize!

We did the South of France , we went to Holiday Marine in Port Grimaud. The site was very nice , run by an English family. You can walk to the beach but you have to cross a very busy road. We found it easier to drive. There is a boat that takes you to St Tropez. Nice and Monte Carlo are an easy drive away for a day out.

Men must wear Speedo's or any other skin tight swimming wear in the pool - no exceptions!

Duinrell in Holland is fantastic - we've been there in May and in April and had a great time.

We also went to a place in the Loire Valley but can't remember the name of the site - it was near Chambord and has Chateau in the name I think. The weather in May was lovely and the pool was nice.

Le Cote de Nacre in Normandy was great too if you don't want to travel so far.

We've always found the accommodation to be clean but have always booked a higher grade.

Hope that helps.

My friend went to one near Disneyland Paris and had a day trip

Itchyhead2020 · 07/02/2020 20:46

What age are your kids? We went to St Avit Loirs with a 3 year old and loved it. We then went to a dinosaur park which was absolutely brilliant

falgelednl · 07/02/2020 20:47

We have done Eurocamp on and off over the past decade. I would highly recommend looking at the sites in Holland. We are heading back to Beekse Bergen in Hilvarenbeek this year. We have also been to Duinrell which is fabulous too. They both have loads of extras - I really do recommend you check them out.
We have also been to the one near Disneyland Paris twice - Vieux Ponts or something like that. It is a lovely site - we like the spots which are surrounded by hedges on three sides so very private. Lots to do on site and day trips organised by the site to Disneyland and Paris.
We always drive - tend to split our time between the site and exploring local areas. Driving is easy in France/Holland. We've been at Easter, May and October and the sites are fairly quiet then compared to the summer but still lots of friends for the kids to make and lots to do.

Congratulations! So nice to hear of someone winning something!!
We liked Le Pin Parasol in the Vendee but if you’re going in May half term I’d recommend going Serious South in France to maximise chances of good weather

ivykaty44 · 07/02/2020 20:52

What ferry crossing can you have and have you worked out how king the car journey is going to be to the south of France? Also the cost of the toll roads could add £200 easily to the cost on top of petrol

Lyon or Bordeaux is going to be 700 miles from Birmingham & a good 13 hour drive and you still haven’t reached the south if France

Why not look at the Vendee, il de Rae ( most sunshiny place in France) Loire valley for more sunshine less driving with 3 children

ivykaty44 · 07/02/2020 20:53

Oh and congratulations 🥳

isithotinhereorisitjustme · 07/02/2020 20:55

Like some others, highly recommend Duinrell in Holland, in fact we are off there again this summer.

Enjoy your holiday!

Whynosnowyet · 07/02/2020 20:59

Take loads of food...

kenandbarbie · 07/02/2020 21:01

South of France probs too far to drive with young children. I'd fly if you want south of France drive if further north.

hanahsaunt · 07/02/2020 21:02

La Garangeoire in the Vendee or St Avit de Loisirs in the Dordogne though the latter is a long drive for seven days.

CormoranStrike · 07/02/2020 21:11

We really like La Croix du Vieux Pont (Berny rivière), lovely site and easy to get to Disney Land Paris if you wish.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 07/02/2020 21:19

If you do decide to drive to the South of France you will need to stop overnight in the Dijon /Beaune area. We got a good deal at an Ibis hotel in Beaune which is a lovely town.

Poetryinaction · 07/02/2020 21:21

We had the most amazing holiday May half term at Lake Idro, near Lake Garda in Italy. It was so quiet, we had the lake to ourselves. It is a windsurfing lake but the season started the following week. Absolutely beautiful, amazing weather, and close to Venice.

Tr1skel1on · 07/02/2020 21:27

Nothing useful to add but we are off to southern Spain, similar dates to you for our first eurocamp holiday and I can't wait. :) I'm taking 2 young teens, if anyone has any useful tips for older children I'd love to hear them.

Congrats OP on your raffle win

ritzbiscuits · 07/02/2020 21:37

If you want to drive I'd look at La Croix du Vieux Pont (near Paris/Disneyland) or Duinrell and you can use the cheaper Dover Calais crossings.

DaveGrohlsMuse · 07/02/2020 21:41

South of France would be too far to drive if you're only going for 7 days. But, I'd worry about the weather further north. They are very much outdoor holidays.
Where are your ferry crossings too? That will make a difference as to how much driving you have at the other end.

tryinganotherusername · 07/02/2020 22:54

We love ile de re, and always stay in a camp that's not eurocamp but v similar when we go. There are def eirocamps around. It's a real holiday area, but the "vibe" is very relaxed/ laid back, not at all brits abroad. Superb, safe cycle network, great for families. We never use the car when we're there, pack our picnics and towels onto our bikes and cycle to various (fantastic) beaches every day.

dottycat123 · 07/02/2020 22:57

In May you will need to go south if you want better weather. We did loads of camping in France when the dc were young. We always chose one within walking distance of the beach. The pools are usually really good.Budget loads for shopping, even in the aldi/ lidl supermarket it's expensive. I tried to take basics with me, toilet roll really expensive.
