Saturday boredom

hhsa · 07/02/2020 19:29

On Saturdays I get so bored that if I stay home I get depressed. I have 3 teenage kids who always have something to do. But I also have a 7 year old who also gets bored at home. Need ideas for spending saturdays out of home with a 7 year old. Any ideas?

Join a gym and go swimming together.

JC12345 · 07/02/2020 19:44

How about parkrun? Free and every Saturday morning.

NerrSnerr · 07/02/2020 19:48

Swimming, walk in the woods/ beach/ up a hill or what is near you, museum/ gallery, bike ride, go for cake/ lunch/ tea, geocaching/ Pokémon go.

Dont live near a beach. I so wish I did. Wouldn't it be nice to walk along the beach regularly.

Of course the weather is suitable for parkrun!
Otherwise they would cancel it Grin

homemadecommunistrussia · 07/02/2020 21:15

You can go to work for me if you like? 7 year old will be fine too, I work in a nice child friendly place.
Win win Grin

@hhsa sounds like you're Manchester based.

Look at National Trust membership, there are lots of great properties to visit nearby - Dunham Massey, Lyme Park, Quarry Bank, Tatton Park, Speke Hall for starters.

CherryPavlova · 07/02/2020 21:22

Museums
Art galleries
The library
Park run
Cinema
Walks with treasure hunts
Things you’d never imagine doing - Sung evensong a cathedral, for example.
Buy a book of walks and do them all. If you are near Manchester you have Kinder scout and Mam Tor etc
Kite flying.
Activities like art or baking to stop home being boring
Find something to be interested in together whether that be park run, brownies, brass rubbing or a choir.

Is 7 year old girl or boy ?

Sign them up to footie or swimming lessons so it gets you out of the house

NerrSnerr · 07/02/2020 21:25

Trampoline park, bowling, pot painting, ice skating, cinema, country park.

bigchris · 07/02/2020 21:25

Why are Saturday boring compared to Sundays and is there another parent or just you

AdoptedBumpkin · 07/02/2020 21:31

It's good to get out of the house if you can manage it, even if it's only down the road.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/02/2020 21:32

Trampoline park

Howmanysleepsnow · 07/02/2020 21:33

If you’re in Manchester the Museum of Science and Industry is good at that age.

Saturday's are our "day at home". It's just me with a 3 and 4 yr old. We have animals, our days normally go like this.

Bit of a lay on if I can. (8am) we all enjoy not rushing around for a change. I make pancakes for break Fast then they watch a bit of tv while I do a quick tidy and wash up . Get ready and go out to the animals. We spend a couple of hours outside whatever the weather. Home, lunch. In the afternoon we play games, make biscuits, go in the garden if it's nice, maybe for a walk or bike ride.

Sometimes we go swimming then visit my parents. I think if I didn't have the animals I would sign the dc up for swimming lessons/football/gym.

Foghead · 07/02/2020 21:36

Google ‘things to do with kids’ in your area and see what comes up.
I’m sure you’ll find loads to do.
We do things like
Visiting family
Local parks, woods and farms
Museums and galleries
Cinema
Day out to somewhere a bit further away

NurseButtercup · 07/02/2020 21:37

Go on cheap day trips out to local towns on the train or coach. Train & coach usually drops off in the city centre so you can have a mooch around the shops, art galleries, museum's etc...Make a pack lunch to keep costs down set off early.

If you plan in advance you can usually get cheap tickets.

formerbabe · 07/02/2020 21:40

If we're bored, we sometimes just go to the supermarket, buy ingredients and go home and do some baking.

Other ideas...bowling, swimming, cinema, cafe, park, climbing centre, trampoline park, museum

pumpkinpie01 · 07/02/2020 21:41

I'm on my own tomorrow with ds6 we will go on dog walk, swimming, play a board game , maybe bake some biscuits. We live in a small town but surely there is something going on in a big city?

hhsa · 07/02/2020 21:45

Thank you for all ur replies. There are some very good ideas, which I will try.

Would your 7 yr old enjoy football or rugby ?
Once they get involved you become part of that community - getting out every Saturday (or Sunday) with the team.

SleightOfMind · 07/02/2020 21:53

What did you do with your teens when they were 7?
