School uniform for very small reception twins

We have twin sisters starting in reception at our school in September. They are very small for their age and have just gone into age 2 clothes. I’m working with the parents to try to find school uniform solutions.

The smallest size I’ve found in anything is 2-3 but there isn’t much available and I can’t find summer dresses in that size at all.

Has anyone found that age 2-3 clothes can be easily altered to fit a smaller child? If it was just a question of taking hems up it wouldn’t be a problem but it’s also shoulders, waists and so on.

Any ideas very welcome.

I just bought sainsburies and got the sewing machine out. Its possible to put two seams in down the back one each side to draw in shoulders chest and waist and more darts at front on waist if needed.

Mine was a tiny receptionista as well.

Pinafores are more forgiving as well and again just darts back and I usually did side seams.

There’s a teeny tiny girl in our reception class, their issue was definitely the shoes! The smallest they could find were size 6 so they had to put insoles and thick socks on her size 5 feet

With cardigans, can you find someone to knit some plain ones? (Red I'm guessing?)then they can be perfectly sized.

I remember when my DD started preschool, I had to take up her dresses, I sorted of folded them at the waist to take them up, instead of the hem (they were age 3 Sainsbury's dresses... Unfortunately by the next summer they seemed to have changed the shape so they were a lot wider around the chest).
