Police visit showing on Enhanced DBS?

Hello just looking for some advice

In the heat of the moment last night I rang the police during an argument with my OH, a completely verbal argument. I put the phone down as soon as it connected but they came out anyway. When they came they were satisfied nothing had happened other than a petty row that had got a bit loud and didn’t see the need to separate us for the night etc. and obviously they knew nothing physical had happened.

I’m confident that on a standard DBS this wouldn’t come up (as I’ve spoke to 101/local police today) who have said it’s been logged as “Verbal argument” with no children present. However would this come on an enhanced DBS? I am due to take one in a few months for a job involving children (we don’t have children, there weren’t any present last night) would this show up? I’m such an idiot for acting in the heat of the moment.

No it wouldn't show.

mygrandchildrenrock · 05/02/2020 22:23

No it won’t come up. Stop worrying!

Hoolajerry · 05/02/2020 22:25

You only have to disclose something if you are convicted of something

What a bloody waste of police time. And you're worrying about your job not the fact you've used them as some form of threat.

PicsInRed · 05/02/2020 22:42

It's not a waste of police time.

It takes a lot of attempts to leave - or even to really believe that you need to leave.

SouthWestmom · 05/02/2020 22:59

Right so if there's a back story I apologise. That's noIt coming through in the op at all.

HavenDilemma · 05/02/2020 23:08

You haven't committed a crime op so why would it show on an enhanced DBS or any DBS check for that matter????

MulticolourMophead · 05/02/2020 23:34

OP, I found this information online about what a DBS shows:

There are three different levels of DBS check: standard, Enhanced and Enhanced with barred lists check.

The amount of information revealed depends on the level of check.

Standard DBS checks show details of spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings held on police records.

Enhanced DBS checks show the same information as standard checks, plus any additional information held by local police considered relevant to the role in question.

Enhanced with barred lists checks show the same information as Enhanced checks, but also include a check of the DBS barred lists.

So it's not just crimes that show, depending on the level required.

MulticolourMophead · 05/02/2020 23:36

More information from the government website.

hannahrenee · 05/02/2020 23:58

Could anyone argue it’s “relevant to the role in question”?

You rang the police about someone else why would this show up in your check?

KatyCarrCan · 06/02/2020 00:16

Did your OH suggest that calling the police on him could impact your career?

DecemberSnow · 06/02/2020 00:20

What do you actually think it would say on a enhanced DBS?

There was an identical thread like this afew months ago !

KatyCarrCan · 06/02/2020 00:32

I wonder if posters are confusing calls without children being present with calls where children are involved. If police come out, even to just a verbal disagreement, and there are DCs present, they can refer to social services ie it creates an official and actionable record. Perhaps they're confusing that record with something that would show on a DBS.

Or, there are lots of aggressive men lying to their partners about what happens if they report them.

Stronger76 · 06/02/2020 05:35

OP a DBS check shows stuff about YOU. Even if you are living with a convicted axe murderer (or worse), few jobs would require info about the person you are married to/living with.

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2020 09:40

It really won't show up on a DBS, but in regard to Stronger76's comment about who you live with, if you're working with children or vulnerable adults, you do have to sign a 'Disqualification Declaration' form which does ask about any adults in your house with a police record.
It would depend what that is whether or not you can work with children.

URPS · 06/02/2020 09:42

Bless you. No it won't show. It only shows convictions.

URPS · 06/02/2020 09:44

@mygrandchildrenrock

I've had an enhanced DBS for 24 years and not once have I had to sign a disqualification declaration !!

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2020 09:48

Do you work with children? You are supposed to sign one annually.

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2020 09:53

I've just checked and although school staff no longer have to complete the form, childminders do!
"under the 2018 regulations, schools are no longer required to establish whether a member of staff providing, or employed to work in childcare, is disqualified by association. Regulation 9 does not apply to staff in a relevant school setting. Disqualification by association is only relevant where childcare is provided in domestic settings (for example where childminding is provided in the home) or under registration on domestic premises." www.gov.uk/government/publications/disqualification-under-the-childcare-act-2006/disqualification-under-the-childcare-act-2006

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2020 09:54

Your phone call and subsequent police visit will not show up on your DBS though hannahrenee.

URPS · 06/02/2020 10:41

@mygrandchildren

Social worker with teens.

mygrandchildrenrock · 06/02/2020 11:12

Sorry URPS, I was taking a very narrow view of working with children and thinking about schools and settings!

Stronger76 · 06/02/2020 19:17

@mygrandchildrenrock I've worked with children in many settings (nursery, schools, catering, charity for vulnerable families) for 16 years and never had to declare who I live with. I vaguely recall having to give exh details when I started in finance 25 years ago but not for DBS.

user14572856389 · 06/02/2020 19:24

Why did you feel the need to call the police, even for that instant?

Did you hang up because he told you it would jeopardise your job?
